Lyle Bottorf
Lyle H. Bottorf, 80, of Grand Island died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
The body will be cremated. Services are pending with Bidwell Funeral Chapel in Chico, Calif.
Evaleen Schritt
Evaleen E. Schritt, 78, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Grand Island City cemetery with Chaplain Peg Stokman officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation.
Mrs. Schritt was born on Aug. 19, 1920, at Grand Island to John and Minnie (Schlieker) Rapien. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island.
She married
Fred Schritt on Dec. 15, 1943, at Smith Center, Kan. The couple lived in Grand Island. Mr. Schritt died in 1985, and Mrs. Schritt continued to live in Grand Island.
She enjoyed gardening and quilting and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula Sevier and Judith Howard; a son, Jack B. Schritt; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Grim.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Don and Charles.
Barbara Augustyn
LOUP CITY -- Barbara C. Augustyn, 85, of Loup City died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Miss Augustyn donated her body to Creighton University in Omaha.
Memorial services will be at a later date.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
'Jane' Faz
WOOD RIVER -- Juanita "Jane" Faz, 65, of Wood River died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Abundant Life Christian Center of Grand Island. The Rev. Brad Keller will officiate. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Faz was born on May 17, 1933, in Campwood, Texas, to Juan and Julia Falcon.
She married
Hector Faz on June 11, 1952, in Crane, Texas. They moved to Wood River in 1974.
She was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center of Grand Island.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Hector Faz Jr. and Ray Faz, both of Grand Island, John Faz of San Diego and Elodio Faz of Kearney; four daughters, Linda Majerus of Wood River, Sally O'Donnell of Sioux City, Iowa, Suzie Cunningham of Calabasas, Calif., and Joy Faz of Council Bluffs, Iowa.; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five brothers, Joe Falcon, Robert Falcon and Mencho Falcon, all of Campwood, Texas, Ralph Falcon of Arkansas and Juan Falcon of Crane, Texas; one sister, Pauline Ruiz of Campwood, Texas.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, R. Faz in 1955; and three brothers, Chano Falcon, Elodio Falcon and Kino Falcon.
Norman Hailicka
HASTINGS -- Norman W. Hailicka, 73, of Hastings died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Bill Liddell will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow, the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hastings or the donor's choice.
Mr. Hailicka was born on July 19, 1925, in Omaha to Joseph and Bessie (Hess) Hailicka. He grew up in Omaha and attended Technical High School until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served three years aboard the USS Pennsylvania and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married
Robetta M. Anderson on Sept. 28, 1952, in Omaha. They moved to Broken Bow in 1954 and started the Bow Furnace and Sheet Metal Co. He enjoyed working in his shop. They sold their business after 36 years and retired. They moved to Hastings in 1992 to be closer to their children.
He enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with others. After retiring, he learned to polka dance, traveling across the state and to other areas to dance.
He was a charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow and a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hastings. He was a member of the Elks in Hastings, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Custer Lodge 148 in Broken Bow and the Platt-Duetsche Society in Grand Island. He was a member of the Broken Bow Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Beth (Mrs. Richard) Shaw of Overland Park, Kan., and one son, Paul Hailicka of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
'Mick' Huhman
SPALDING -- Michael J. "Mick" Huhman, 66, of Spalding died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. Frank Hoelck will officiate. A military service and burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at Dolce-Scheef Mortuary.
Mr. Huhman was born on Sept. 6, 1931, on a farm northeast of Spalding to John and Louisa (Vanderloop) Huhman. He was educated at Spalding Public School. He helped his father on the farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After the service, he worked for the Spalding Light Plant for 32 years.
He married
Margaret Lawtz on May 15, 1968, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion and was a longtime volunteer firefighter.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael of Lakeland, Fla.; two stepsons, Daniel Lantz of Bennington and John Lantz of Grand Island; two stepdaughters, Helen Follrich of Auburn and Mary Lantz of Breckenridge, Texas; two grandchildren; two brothers, George of Spalding and Anthony "Bud" of Broken Bow; and four sisters, Delores Hennman of Grand Island, Monica Griesman of Spalding, Rita Doll of Des Moines, Iowa, and Beth Johnson of Kansas City, Kan.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, Tom Lantz; three brothers, Francis, Henry and Paul; and three sisters, Mary, Helen and Celestine.
Telma Taubenheim
KEARNEY -- Telma A. Taubenheim, 92, a former Riverdale and Amherst resident, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Rev. David deFreese will officiate. Burial will be in Stanley cemetery at Amherst.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary or prior to services Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Amherst Emergency Unit.
Mrs. Taubenheim was born on July 13, 1906, in Kearney to Albert A. and Grace M. (Higgins) Beers. She grew up and attended school in the Riverdale and Kearney area.
She married
Otto H. Taubenheim on April 22, 1925, and they farmed for 50 years north of Riverdale. They moved to Amherst in 1975. Mr. Taubenheim died Sept. 9, 1980. Mrs. Taubenheim moved to Kearney in October 1995 and to the Mother Hull Home in April 1998.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Kearney, the Amherst Extension Club, the Tops Club in Amherst and the Methodist Church Quilting Club in Amherst. She enjoyed tatting, reading, playing cards and gardening.
Survivors include three sons, Lee D. Taubenheim of McPherson, Kan., Gerald D. Taubenheim of Broken Bow and Maurice D. Taubenheim of Grand Island; two daughters, Venia Mae Whitesel of Broken Bow and Leta Rose Jobman of Kearney; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Aileen Tierney of Blue Lake, Calif., and Vaun McIntosh of St. Edward.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Vores Taubenheim; one grandson and two brothers.
