Robert Spiehs
Robert L. Spiehs, 75, of Grand Island, died Sept. 13 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Ramona Blach
Ramona J. Blach, 70, of Cotesfield, died Saturday, September 12 at her home in Cotesfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Martha Voigt will officiate, and burial will be in the Cotesfield Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Methodist Church in Cotesfield or the Polysystic Kidney Foundation.
Mrs. Blach was born on Aug. 15, 1928 in Scotia to Elmer and Gladys (Meyer) Meyer. She was raised and attended schools in Scotia and graduated from Scotia High School in 1945. She taught school in Cotesfield and Dannebrog.
She married
Leonard Blach on JUne 8, 1947 near Scotia. The lived on a farm west of Cotesfield until 1977, then moved to a farm north of Cotesfield.
Mrs. Blach was active as a 4-H leader, was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cotesfield, the County Extension Club, Scotia Legion Auxiallary and ZCBJ Lodge in Ord. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and flowers.
Survivors include her husband; son Robert Blach of Encinitas, CA.; two daughters, Susanne Milbourn of Columbus and Carmen Ostrander of Ord; and one sister, Eleanor Moravc of Cotesfield.
Lyle Brabander
Lyle E. Brabander, 77, of Grand Island died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. Rev. Richard Bacon will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Lyle Brabander Memorial Fund.
Mr. Brabander was born May 28, 1921, at Grand Island to Edward and Olive (Franz) Brabander. He received his eduation in Grand Island, graduating in 1939. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945, serving during the Pacific Theater. He received the bronze star and purple heart.
He married
Anita M. Mathiesen on July 17, 1943, at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island where he was employed at the R.E. Typewriter Company for 30 years and the Nebraska Veterans Home where he was a guardian officer for 16 years.
He was a commander, founder and life member of Local Chapter 632 Military Order of the Purple Heart; commander and life member of Post 1347 VFW Club; member of the 96th Infantry Division; Masonic Lodge 33 A.F. and A.M.; American Legion; life member of the Disabled American Veterans; Eagles Aerie 378; Platt-Duetsche; United Commercial Travelers; and First Christian Church. He served on the Hall County Veterans Service Committee for 39 years. He was a promoter of the local Golden Gloves. He volunteered at the V.A. Hospital.
Survivors include his wife; son, Ron Brabander of North Platte; daughter, Rita Graham of Grand Island and one granddaughter.
Emma Grosshans
Emma N. Grosshans, 87, of Grand Island died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate.
No visitation. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a cousin; and special friends, Larry and Joyce Larson of Grand Island.
Mertyon Schweitzer
Mertyon Schweitzer, 84, of Grand Island died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Warriner will officiate. Burial will be in the Wood River Mennonite cemetery near Wood River. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family or donor's choice.
Mr. Schweitzer was born Aug. 23, 1914, at Wood River to John and Matilda (Stutzman) Schweitzer. He attended rural Wood River public schools. He farmed near Cairo.
He married
Ella Beckler on March 18, 1937, at Wood River. They lived on a farm until moving to Grand Island in 1967. He worked for Webb Livestock Company for 19 years.
He was a member of the Abundant Life Christian Center.
Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Laberta (Mrs. Herb) Harder of Grand Island, Elda (Mrs. Roger) Smith of Grand Island, Marilyn Hayes of Grand Island, Twila Schweitzer of Grand Island, Wanda (Mrs. Harry) Lilienthal of Grand Island, Wilma (Mrs. Robert) Dickson of Grand Island; two sons, Leroy Schweitzer and Elwyn Schweitzer, both of Grand Island; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alarion Schweitzer of Cairo, Lester Schweitzer of Arizona City, Ariz. and Royden Schweitzer of Vanderhoof, British Columbia, Canada and two sisters, Naomi (Raymond) Beckler of Cairo, Esther (Robert) Miller of Buhl, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a son, Milton.
Marie Leibhart
BROKEN BOW -- Marie Katherine Leibhart, 82, of Broken Bow died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998 at the Phelps County Hospital in Holdrege.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. Father Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Leibhart was born Oct. 4, 1915, at Oconto to Philip Leo and Florence (Powers) Lynch. She attended school in Oconto and graduated from Callaway High School.
She married
Harry Leibhart on Feb. 20, 1939, at Oconto. They lived near Oconto until 1949 until moving to a farm near Broken Bow. She worked for several years at Becton-Dickinson in Broken Bow.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Altar Society, many community clubs and the Rhino-Ash Creek Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Katholeen (Don) Studicka of Wilcox; two sons, James Leibhart of Bertrand, Duane Leibhart of Adel, Iowa; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Bernard Lynch of Yutan.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.
Maynard Norseen
LOUP CITY -- Maynard G. Norseen, 82, of Loup City died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Rev. Loren Heil will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Norseen was born April 19, 1916, near Loup City to Gustav Ruben and Elin Leone "Lilly" (Blomstrand) Norseen. He attended Loup City Public School. He picked fruit and vegetables in Texas and Oregon and picked potatoes in Nebraska. He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945.
He married
Mildred Stamm on April 15, 1947, at Loup City. They farmed until retirement.
He was a lifetime member of Legion Post 48 and served on the Color Guard for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Norseen of Gothenberg and Earl Norseen of Loup City; two daughters, Cheryl Swartzell of Hutchinson, Kan., and Debbie Pfeil of Alma; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Mervin Norseen of North Platte, Dean Norseen of Lexington, Dale Norseen of Minden and a sister, Doris Golus of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two grandchildren.
Emma Nicholas
PALMER -- Emma B. Nicholas, 86, of Palmer, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Church of Christ in Palmer. Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be at the Rose Hill cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Palmer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nicholas was born April 9, 1912, in Nancy County to Clarence and Mina (Edwards) Clark. She attended rural schools and worked in a private home in Omaha.
She married
Raymond Hann in 1936 and they moved to Kansas City. Her husband died in 1945. Later she moved to Broken Bow and worked at Ben Franklin Store and sold Avon products. She was later a clerk at Coast to Coast until retiring in 1975.
She married
Orville Nicholas on Feb. 27, 1977, at Palmer.
She was a member of Maranatha, Willing Workers, and the Senior Center.
Survivors include her husband; a sister, Kay (Mrs. Skip) Gallant of Palmer; daughter, Joan (Fred) Ready of Greenwood; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-children; 12 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Leota Collen, Edith Wilson, and Florence Cornish; a brother, Ralph C. Clark.
