Clarence Schmidt
Council Bluffs, Iowa -- Clarence Schmidt, 78, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Stockham, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at an Omaha care home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Aurora Messiah Lutheran Church. The Revs. Carlos D. Schneider and Dean Bard will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Memorials are suggested to Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha.
Survivors include his wife, Rosmarie; a son, Harlan of Aurora; a daughter, Andrea Haynes of Aurora; a stepson, Michael Edris of Omaha; two stepdaughters, Christy Edris of Council Bluffs and Lori Pruet of Phoenix; four grandchildren; one brother, Ervin Schmidt of Sutton; and one sister, Dorothy Rabbe of Sutton.
Edward Berst
Edward C. Berst, 69, of Grand Island died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Chester Smith
Chester Gale Smith, 65, of Grand Island died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. John Douglas Russell will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Mr. Smith was born on Aug. 9, 1933, in Ainsworth to Vernon and Dorotha (Fink) Smith. He graduated from high school in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956.
He married
Joan Campbell on Jan. 5, 1958, at Grand Island. Mr. Smith worked in retail trade for many years and retired in 1985.
He attended St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, George and Greg Smith, both of Grand Island; one daughter, Candace (Mrs. Jerome) Rinkol of Grand Island; three grandchildren; his mother and step father, Dorotha and E.J. Nicholson of Salton City, Calif.; and two sisters, Joyce (Mrs. John) Routson of Murrieta, Calif., and Virginia (Mrs. Kenneth) Link of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Verle.
Maynard Norseen
LOUP CITY -- Maynard G. Norseen, 82, of Loup City died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Officiating will be Loren Heil. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City. American Legion Post No. 48 will provide a military honor guard.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Roy N. Wilson
Stromsburg -- Roy N. Wilson, 70, of Stromsburg died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Stromsburg. The Rev. Jeffery Thurman will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Wilson was born on March 5, 1928, at Mason City to Harry and Emma (Lyzhoft) Wilson. He attended country school in Polk County. He farmed with his father and brother and later by himself.
He married
Vivian Dornburg Knerr on May 27, 1968, at Belleville, Kan. They farmed west of Stromsburg.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Connie (Mrs. Jerry) Sperling of Stromsburg and Bonnie (Mrs. Bob) Senff of Bradshaw; many grandchildren; and a sister, Vera (Mrs. Howard) Liedtke of Stromsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Blanche Donelson and Opal Lindquist; and two brothers, Donald Frank and Harold Wilson.
Allen Beason
ORLEANS -- Allen "Gene" Beason, 38, of Orleans died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at BryanLGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Broken Bow Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Survivors include one son, Casey Gene Beason of California; his father, James Beason Sr. of Orleans; three brothers, James Beason Jr. and Ronald Beason, both of Dunning, and Charles Beason of Orleans; three sisters, Elizabeth Beason of North Platte, Christina Beason of Fullerton and Desolee Beason of Portland, Ore.; and his grandmother, Audrey Trent of Anselmo.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet (Copper) Beason; and one brother, Goffrey.
Daniel Johansen
CHAMBERS -- Daniel "Dan" Ralph Johansen, 52, of Chambers died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill. The Rev. George Welsh will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Eaton Township cemetery at Heartwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Mr. Johansen was born on March 25, 1946, in Minden to Ralph and Neva (Podewitz) Johansen. He attended Heartwell Elementary School and graduated from Minden High School in 1964. He earned a bachelor's degree in business in 1971 from Kearney State College, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
He married
Carol Nelson on Aug. 30, 1968, at Yankton, S.D. He worked for the North Loup Valley Bank. While living in North Loup, he was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and Lions Club and was mayor for four years.
He moved to Oxford in 1979. He worked for Security State Bank. He was a member of the Rotary Club and served on the village board for six years in Oxford.
He moved to Chambers in 1989 and worked at the Chambers State Bank as an insurance agent. He was appointed vice president in 1998.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Carrie (Mrs. Gary) Christensen of North Platte; a son, Andrew of Beatrice; two grandchildren; his mother, of Heartwell; one sister, Marlys Parr of Lubbock, Texas; and three brothers, Eldon of Wilsonville, Ore., Russ of Dannebrog and Phil Johansen of Gibbon.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Lloyd Lundin
Lloyd H. Lundin, 89, of Riverside Lodge died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. C. Roger Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Shriners' Crippled Children's Hospital.
Mr. Lundin married
Dorothea Martin of Dannebrog in April 1932. She died in 1965.
He married
Avis Thomsen of Grand Island in November 1966. She died in 1979.
Frank Robertson
Frank H. Robertson, 83, of Grand Island died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Schmitt will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center or the Salvation Army.
Mr. Robertson was born on July 30, 1915, at Johnstown to Joseph T. and Antonia (Dvorak) Robertson. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island.
He married
Lorabelle McCollister in July 1937 at Aurora. The couple lived in Grand Island. He entered the U.S. Army National Guard in 1937 and was discharged as a sergeant on Nov. 18, 1941. After his discharge, they lived in Omaha. He began working for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1943 as a yardmaster and lived in Grand Island.
He married
Mary Roberts-Riedy on Sept. 17, 1955, at Columbus. The couple lived in Grand Island. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad on Jan. 14, 1978. Mrs. Robertson died on Oct. 29, 1995, and Mr. Robertson continued to live in Grand Island.
He was a member of the Union Pacific Old-timers.
Survivors include a son, Doug Riedy of Grand Island; a daughter, Susan Gion of Grand Island; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Alice Thompson and Edna Crow, both of Grand Island, and Elma (Mrs. Herbert) Knapp of Des Moines, Iowa.
Other than his wife Mary, he was preceded in death by a son, Frank Jr.; three brothers, Joseph, William and Edward; and two sisters, Ella Robertson and Dorothy Chamberlin.
