Esther Hecox
GOTHENBURG -- Esther D. Hecox, 80, formerly of Grand Island, died Sept. 3, 1998, at her home south of Gothenburg.
Services were on Tuesday at Banner United Methodist Church in Gothenburg. The Rev. Bill Bicket officiated. Burial was in Peckham cemetery south of Gothenburg.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
Mrs. Hecox was born on Feb. 12, 1918, at Le Porte, Ind., to Ralph and Lydia (Heuer) Davis. She graduated in 1936 from Grand Island High School and earned a bachelor's degree in education and physical education in 1941 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
She married
Richard C. Hecox on June 6, 1941, at Manhattan, Kan.
Mrs. Hecox taught science at Gothenburg, Eustis and Brady for many years.
She was an active member of Banner United Methodist Church, a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary at Gothenburg.
She enjoyed painting, knitting and music.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Pamela (Mrs. Bill) Fattig of Elmwood; two sons, Richard C. of League City, Texas, and Stephen of Gothenburg; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Adrian Davis of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Taylor.
Emelia Schimmer
SUTHERLAND -- Emelia E. Schimmer, 97, of the Bethesda Care Center in Sutherland, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at the center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Schimmer was born on Nov. 23, 1900, at Grand Island to John and Emma (Thomssen) Schultz. She grew up and attended school in Grand Island. Following her education, she helped on the family farm.
She married
Walter Schimmer on Feb. 14, 1922, in Grand Island. They farmed near Grand Island. The couple moved to North Platte in 1987. Mr. Schimmer died in January 1994.
Mrs. Schimmer was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include one son, Roderick M. Schimmer of North Platte; one daughter, Jean Ann (Mrs. Robert) Clark of Streamwood, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Pete, August, John and Henry Schultz; and two sisters, Anna Schwartz and Dora Knuth.
Roger Clements
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Roger E. Clements, 73, of Bradenton, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Glancy Funeral Homes in Montpelier, Ind. The Rev. Frank Rodgers will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Memorial Park at Montpelier.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Clements was born on Feb. 11, 1925, in Wells County, Ind., to Alvah Earl and Nellie (Watkins) Clements. He was a 1943 graduate of Montpelier High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He married
Madonna Jones on June 8, 1947, at Montpelier.
He was a retired barber, served on the Indiana Barber Board and was president from 1968 to 1972.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Montpelier, was appointed Sagamore of the Wabash in 1969 and Distinguished Hoosier in 1970 by the Indiana governor. He was a member of American Legion Post 24 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bradenton.
Survivors include one son, Randall Clements of Houston; two daughters, Chris Dirmeyer of Bradenton and Beth Couch of Bluffton, Ind.; five grandsons; two brothers, Lloyd Clements of Ellenton, Fla., and Robert Clements of New Castle, Ind.; and two sisters, Imogene Needler of Hartford, Ind., and Carol Yencer of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a grandson.
Lloyd Lundin
Lloyd H. Lundin, 89, of Riverside Lodge died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. C. Roger Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.
Mr. Lundin was born on Oct. 10, 1908, at Bertrand to Theodore A. and Ranghild O. (Hendrickson) Lundin. He attended school in Phelps County and graduated from Holdrege High School in 1927. He attended Grand Island Business College from 1927 to 1929.
He was office manager for the Colorado Fuel and Iron Co. until the company sold out in 1933. He worked for Central Power Co. as field auditor from January 1934 until January 1941, when the company was sold to Consumer Public Power District and he was transferred to Columbus as acquisition coordinator. He later was personnel director and director of administration until retiring in 1973.
While in Columbus, he was United Way president and drive chairman, Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce president and Boy Scouts of America Covered Wagon Council director.
He married
Dorothea Martin of Dannebrog in April 1932. She died in 1965.
He married
Avis Thomsen of Grand Island in November 1966. She died in 1979.
After moving to Grand Island in 1973, he helped form the Kuester Lake Corp. and served as its president for 10 years.
He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He was secretary of the Riverside Golf Club Holding Association for three terms, Stuhr Museum Foundation director, Grand Island Rotary Club secretary and a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.
He was a member of the Riverside Golf Club, Saddle Club, Grand Island Foundation and St. Francis Medical Center Foundation, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar and Tehama Shrine. He was past president of the Central Nebraska Shrine Club and the Royal Order of Jesters.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Mitlyng of Dallas; his son, Donald L. Lundin of Chicago; a stepson, Jon Thomsen of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Jackson of Lakewood, Colo.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy and Florence.
Frank Robertson
Frank H. Robertson, 83, of Grand Island died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Mervin Schroeder Sr.
Mervin Schroeder Sr., 90, of Grand Island died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Douglas Stensby will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Mr. Schroeder was born on June 25, 1908, at Alda to Otto and Bertha (Richert) Schroeder. He grew up and was educated in Hall County. He worked on the family farm.
He married
Gertrude Meinke on March 6, 1930, in St. Libory. He worked in the cattle-feeding business for Oscar Bredthauer Feeders and then worked for Rank Grain and Supply Co. for two years. He worked at the Farmers Union Co-op Elevator for more than 14 years and at the Grand Island Elevator for more than 15 years.
His hobbies included fishing and hunting.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne F. Schroeder of Grand Island and Robert D. Schroeder of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Betty J. Michalski of Chapman; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lavern Schroeder of Columbus; and five sisters, Edna Wagner of Grand Island, Lois Nuebert and Hazel Bittinger, both of Fremont, Vivian Hulme of Omaha and Norma Jean Barber of Lakewood, Colo.
His wife died in 1997. He also was preceded in death by one son, Mervin Schroeder Jr.; and three brothers, Albert Schroeder, Raymond Schroeder and Lester Schroeder.
