Marie Hubert
BROKEN BOW -- Marie Hubert, 84, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Robert Strawn will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Hubert was born on Jan. 30, 1914, at Upland to Kreno and Helena (Reil) Pollman. She attended rural schools in the Upland area. Her mother died when she was 14 years old, and Mrs. Hubert helped raise three brothers and one sister.
She married
Richard Hubert on Nov. 28, 1934, at Campbell, and they lived on a farm near Bladen in Webster County.
They moved to a farm near Westerville in Custer County in March 1948. They retired from farming in 1964 and moved to Broken Bow. She worked at Bow Bakery for several years, retiring in December 1985. Mr. Hubert died on Feb. 18, 1984.
Mrs. Hubert was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidering.
Survivors include one daughter, Marjorie (Mrs. Jim) Gildersleeve of Bemidji, Minn.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Hilda Godeken of Alma; and one brother, George Pollman of Paxico, Kan.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Mae Kleeb; and two brothers, Harold and Ede Pollman.
Dorothy Knapp
NORTH LOUP -- Dorothy Marie Knapp, 89, of North Loup died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the North Loup United Methodist Church. The Revs. Melanie Adams, Jim Miller and Paul Day will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery at North Loup.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Mrs. Knapp's chosen missions or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Knapp was born on Oct. 31, 1908, at Albion to Carl Herman and Hustra Anna (Kolden) Nelson. The family moved to a farm northwest of North Loup in 1915. She attended District 42 School, graduated from North Loup High School, attended Friends College at Central City and the University of Nebraska. She taught for eight years in Valley County rural schools.
She married
Ray "Bud" Knapp in June 1930. They lived in North Loup until 1943, when they moved to a farm near Ord.
She was a longtime member of the Methodist Church, where she served on various boards and committees. She also was an active member of the Fortnightly Study Club and the Hi-Way View Club. She was secretary of the Olean school board for 12 years. She was active in the Farm Bureau as the country women's chairwoman and later became a member of the State Farm Bureau Women's Committee.
She was the Republican committee woman from the North Loup area for several years. She served as Heart Fund chairwoman and helped start the Tri Fund in Valley County.
She and her husband retired in 1970 and moved back to North Loup. Mr. Knapp died in 1979.
Mrs. Knapp enjoyed her yard and flowers.
Survivors include two sons, Robert and James, both of Ord; one daughter, Sharyll Walkup of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lind.
Alma Lang
ALBION -- Alma M. Lang, 92, of Albion died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Larry Spomer will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery at Newman Grove.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Fern Ogden
STROMSBURG -- Fern G. Ogden, 90, of Stromsburg died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Jeffery Thurman will officiate. Burial will be in the Osceola Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Albert Rice
HASTINGS -- Albert J. Rice, 95, of Hastings died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at All Saints Chapel at the Good Samaritan Village Center in Hastings. The Rev. C. Roger Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Thursday until service time at the chapel. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Village or the donor's choice.
Mr. Rice was born on Sept. 6, 1903, at Minneapolis to Ernest J. and Myrtice (Mygatt) Rice. He grew up in Long Pine and graduated from high school in 1920. He graduated cum laude from Hastings College in 1925 with a bachelor of science degree. He played football for the Hastings College Broncos.
He married
Emma Olive Fullerton on June 27, 1927, in Hastings.
He taught high school in Long Pine for one year, in Stanton for three years and was a substitute teacher at North Platte High School, Hershey and Maxwell. He taught math, science, physical education and vocational agriculture.
He moved to Benton, Ark., in 1981. He lived there until February 1995, when he moved to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. Mrs. Rice died on Sept. 9, 1987.
Mr. Rice was a member of the Benton, Ark., Presbyterian Church, Walla Walla Lodge 56 of the Odd Fellows for more than 55 years, the Golden K Kiwanis and AARP. He was past president and served on the Soil and Water Conservation District for 25 years in North Platte. He served on the Literacy Commission in Benton, Ark., and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution in Benton.
He was 4-H leader for more than 20 years in North Platte and attended 10 national conferences for the Soil Conservation District. He was an active elder in the Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years in North Platte. He was involved in Heifer Project International and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice L. Leech of North Platte; one son, Ronald K. Rice of Benton, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Warren L. Rice of Hastings.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother.
Lydia Hansen
RUSKIN -- Lydia Johanna Hansen, 87, of Ruskin died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Ruskin.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin. The Rev. Bill Waterman will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Creek cemetery in Ruskin.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Hansen was born on April 13, 1911, on a farm near Blair to Mads P. and Pauline (Paulsen) Hansen. She attended the Cumming City School near Blair.
She married
Arnold Samuel Hansen on Oct. 6, 1936, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair. She lived in Blair, Ruskin and rural Bostwick.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Women's Circle of Bethany. She organized the Goldenrod 4-H Club and was a leader for many years, helped organize the Round About Ruskin Extension Club and the Ruskin Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for her family.
Survivors include one son, Gordon Hansen of Oakdale, Calif.; four daughters, Violet (Mrs. Gary) Lipker of Ruskin, Linda (Mrs. Paul) Hutchinson of Webber, Kan., Sandra (Mrs. Ken) Maciejewski of Doniphan and Joyce (Mrs. Brad) Martin of Crete; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Her husband died on July 20, 1994. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Aaron, James, Edward and Martin; one sister, Mary Hansen; one half brother, Hans; and five half sisters, Bertha, Carrie, Johanna, Lydia and Mary.
Betty Koch
WHITTIER, Calif. -- Betty L. Koch, 63, of Whittier, Calif., formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in California.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.
