Darrell Fish
ORD - Darrell Fish, 81, of Ord died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ord United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Miller will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the family. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Fish was born Feb. 24, 1917, near North Loup to Ira "Devillo" and Ethel (Kasson) Fish. He grew up and attended school in Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army from July 11, 1941, to Oct. 5, 1945. He returned to Ord and worked for Kenny Leach at the Leach Oil Service Station for over 30 years.
He married
Ruby John on June 12, 1976, in Ord.
He loved NASCAR and stock car races and was an avid fisherman. He also helped with the re-creations at Ft. Hartsuff.
Survivors include his wife; three step-sons, Lonnie John, Gordon John and Danny John, all of Grand Island; one step-daughter, Lana Blair of San Antonio; 10 step-grandchildren; three step-great-granchildren; one brother, Harold of Ord; three sisters, Karen Fish and Mildred Hoobler, both of Lincoln, and Mary Desel of Wood River.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard; and one sister, Dorothy Wallace.
'Chuck' Glinn
AURORA - Charles "Chuck" W. Glinn, 56, of Aurora died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Aurora First Christian Church. The Rev. Jay Mitchell will officiate.
There will be no visitation as Mr. Glinn was cremated.
Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Glinn was born Sept. 11, 1941, in Omaha to Myral "Curly" and Opal (Frank) Glinn. He grew up and attended school in the Elliott and Griswold, Iowa area and graduated from Griswold High School. Following graduation, he farmed on the family farm.
He married
Colleen Haas on Aug. 11, 1963, in Griswold, Iowa. He was employed by chemical and seed corn companies and the couple lived in several Nebraska towns. In 1979, they moved to Aurora. In the past years he has worked for several Hamilton County farmers.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Kurtis of Aurora; two daughters, Kathy Parks of Lincoln and Kris Wilson of Aurora; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Alden Jensen
ELBA - Alden V. Jensen, 70, of Elba died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at his home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dannevirke Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Leppr officiating. Burial will be at the Dannevirke cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. Memorials are suggested to the Dannevirke Chapel or the Dannevirke Cemetery.
Mr. Jensen was born on Nov. 4, 1927, in Grand Island. He was the son of Edwin and Gudron (Mortensen) Jensen. He attended school in the Dannevirke-Cotesfield area and later graduated from Scotia High School.
He entered the Army in 1950 and served in Alaska until 1953. He then returned to Cotesfield, where he farmed with his uncle on the family farm.
On May 5, 1956, he married
Georgelen Bense in Cheyenne, Wyo. In 1958 they moved to Wyoming, where he worked at a dairy farm and became a heavy equipment operator. He later moved to Colorado, where he mined and worked in road construction.
In 1967, he moved back to the family farm in Dannevirke and worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. On Oct. 17, 1970, he married
Noreen Christensen in Dannevirke.
The couple farmed until 1979, when they moved to St. Paul. In St. Paul, he owned a used car dealership and body shop. The couple moved to Scotia in 1985. Mrs. Jensen died June 1, 1987.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator, and helped to build the Calamus and Davis canals. He retired in the fall of 1997. He had made his home in Elba since 1990.
He was an avid woodcarver and his hobbies included fishing, dancing, hunting and operating heavy construction equipment.
He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church of St. Paul, the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul and the Eagles Club of Grand Island. He also had served on the town board in Elba.
Survivors include two sons, Nick of Garland and Donald of Elba; three daughters, Cindy Montgomery of Doniphan and Tara Gregoski and Linda Ambrose, both of Elba; three sisters, Murtle Schultz of Grand Island, Anna Marie Julesgarde of Elba and Oline Ackles of Cotesfield; four brothers, Kenneth of Staples, Minn., Curtis of Lincoln and Herbert and Richard, both of Grand Island; 24 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife; one stepson, Gary Christensen; one infant brother and one infant grandchild.
Esther Kolm
SPALDING - Esther Cordelia Kolm, 78, of Cedar Rapids died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at Friendship Villa in Spalding.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Michael Waples will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids and from 9 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Kolm was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Cedar Rapids to Charles and Elsie (Hoppell) Cain. She grew up and attended school in Cedar Rapids and graduated with the class of 1938. Following her schooling, she taught rural schools for two years.
She married
Kenneth Kolm in 1941. She lived her entire life in the Cedar Rapids and Primrose area. She worked at area businesses including the Cooperative Elevator, Harolds Service Station and as a bookkeeper at E & S Propane Company.
Survivors include two sons, Gayland "Putt" of Cedar Rapids and Ronald of Schuyler; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Jacobsen of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Michael; three sisters, Doris Babbitt, Eunice Bowers and Bessie Melland; and one brother Allan Cain.
Betty Reese
KEARNEY - Betty A. Reese, 68, of Kearney died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Rev. Russell Sommerfeldt will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary or prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Reese was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Wahoo to James and Laura (Ptacek) Ellison. She grew up in the Fremont area and graduated from Fremont High School in 1949.
She married
Edward Reese on Nov. 18, 1952, in Omaha. They lived in Grand Island before moving to Kearney in 1958. She worked as a sales clerk for the Hellmans Ready to Wear store and later at A.B.C Drug Store until retiring in 1991. She and her husband owned Reese Welding in Elm Creek since 1977 and she kept books for the business.
She was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid in Kearney. She also belonged to a quilting and card playing club.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Denis of Loomis and Dan of Nashville; two daughters, Laura Tadlock of Grand Island, Lisa Parish of Ellsworth Air Force Base S.D.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Jean Lallman of Hooper and Judy Heller of Lincoln; and one brother, Jerry Ellison of Broken Bow.
Rose Ann Wlaschin
KEARNEY - Rose Ann Wlaschin, 52, of Kearney died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Gibbon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Flynn will officiating. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.
OBrien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wlaschin was born Sept. 18, 1945, in Minden to Marvin and Selma (Coon) McCoy. She attended Shelton schools and graduated from Shelton High School in 1965. She lived in the Shelton and Kearney area. She was a homemaker and helped care for her mother.
She loved to read and work crossword puzzles.
She was a member of the church.
Survivors include her son, Shawn of Kearney; two daughters, Lynette Cooper of Kearney and Sharon Tarr of Denver; four brothers, Richard of Des Moines, Iowa, Gary of Fremont, Robert McCoy of Omaha and Lamoine of Gothenburg; one sister, Sharon Abegglen of North Platte; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
