U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Ruby Zimmerman

BROKEN BOW - Ruby Catherine Zimmerman, 82, of Broken Bow died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at Sandhills Manor.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Cliff Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Prairie Pioneer Center.

Mrs. Zimmerman was born March 14, 1916, in Custer County to Frank and Lillie (Hutt) Humes. She spent most of her life in Custer County, except for six years of her early childhood when she lived with her family on a homestead near Newcastle, Wyo. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1934. She taught school for 39 years.

She married Lester Zimmerman on March 29, 1964.

She was a member of the Broken Bow United Methodist Church, United Methodist Guild, Eastern Star Arrow Chapter No. 164, BPO Does Drove No. 68, Royal Neighbors of America Camp 855, Broken Bow Area Retired Teachers and Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Her hobbies were crafts, calligraphy, reading and enjoying her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Don) Haller of Wood River and Barbara Anderson of Oakland; five grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Floretta of Sheridan, Wyo., Margaret Shreves of Coeur dšAlene, Idaho, Louise Woodward of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Franklin of Newcastle, Wyo., Richard of Coeur dšAlene and Jack Wilson of Dallas; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and three brothers, Raymond, Ralph and Robert Humes.

Blanche Rapp

HOLDREGE - J. Blanche Rapp, 79, of Holdrege died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at the Christian Homes in Holdrege.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson-Harris Funeral Home of Holdrege. The Rev. Murray Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Home cemetery of Holdrege.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rapp was born June 9, 1919, near Hildreth in Franklin County to Rollin and Elizabeth (Slaughter) Reagan. She graduated from Hildreth High School with the class of 1936.

She married Warren Rapp on Aug. 2, 1936. They lived their entire married life in Holdrege. In 1968, they purchased the Cozy Inn Cafe, which they operated until their retirement in 1982.

Blanche was an avid bowler and bowled on several leagues until her health failed in 1996. She was a member of the Women's Bowling Association for many years. She bowled in the Nebraska Women's State Tournaments for more than 30 years and in the National Women's Bowling tournaments in several years.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Gerald of Grand Island; one daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Bill) Francis of Funk; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Earl "Bud" Reagan of Santa Ana, Calif.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Reagan and Ellis Reagan.

Walter Tvrdik

LINCOLN - Walter Tvrdik, 80, of Lincoln, formerly of Comstock, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at his home.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Samm Johnston will officiate. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Douglas Grove cemetery in Comstock.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Comstock United Methodist Church.

More details will be provided later.

Franque Flores

Franque Flores, 26, of 558 E. 20th St. died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home with the family present during visitation.

Memorials may be made to the family's choice.

Mr. Flores was born on April 3, 1972, at Scottsbluff to Daniel and Gloria (Hernandez) Flores Jr. He grew up in Scottsbluff before moving to Grand Island in 1980. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1990. He worked as a loader for Overhead Door Co. and also as a welder for Chief Industries.

He enjoyed playing softball and played for the Budweiser softball team. He also was an avid Husker fan and missed few home games.

Survivors include his parents of Grand Island; three brothers, Albert Flores, Daniel Flores and Armando Flores, all of Grand Island; and grandparents Daniel Flores Sr. of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Marcos Hernandez of Scottsbluff.

Ilo Antonsen

WOOD RIVER -- Ilo M. Antonsen, 90, of Wood River died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

'Pete' Briggs

ST. PAUL -- Paul "Pete" Briggs, 91, of St. Paul died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Elba Cemetery. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Nov. 26, 1906, in Mason City to William and Lola Briggs. He lived with his sister Marie and Elmer Englebrecht and did farm work for area farmers near Elba.

He enjoyed horses.

Survivors are three sisters-in-law, Hattie Briggs of Grand Island, Florence Briggs in Texas and Loretta Briggs of Montana.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Al, Ted and John; two sisters, May Real and Marie Englebrecht and by an infant sister.

'Bessie' Synowski

FREMONT -- Balbina 'Bessie" Synowski of Fremont, formerly of St. Paul, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul with the Rev. Michael McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a rosary at 7 p.m. More vistitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Synowski was born in Tarnov to Joseph and Regina Jazwick. She attended grade school in Tarnov and Platte Center. She worked in Omaha as a nanny for many years.

She married Harry Synowski on Aug. 26, 1952, at Scribner. The couple lived on a farm near St. Paul where she helped her husband on the farm. Upon their retirement in 1983 they moved into St. Paul.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and flowers. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and its Altar Society.

Survivors include one daughter, Roseann (Mrs. Robert) Allen of Grand Island; two grandsons; one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May 17, 1991; a son, Donald; and two sisters, Rose Wass and Sophie Buzynski.
