Florence Lykke
Florence A. Lykke, 97, a resident of Tiffany Square Care Center, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at the center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Russell officiating. Burial will be at the Grand Island Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Arthritis Foundation.
Mrs. Lykke was born July 11, 1901, in Grand Island to Julius and Anna (Bauer) Guendel. She attended school in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island High School in 1919.
She married
Roy C. Lykke on July 6, 1922, in Grand Island. She worked with her husband who owned and operated Lykke Clothing Store in Grand Island for 35 years. Mrs. Lykke did volunteer work in the gift shop at St. Francis Hospital. Her hobbies included knitting, gardening, playing the piano and crafts.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Naomi Circle of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Barrett of Omaha, and Elinor Rademacher of Woodland Hills, Calif.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Arthur Guendel and Emil Guendel.
Anna Pollock
Anna I. Pollack, 82, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Harms and the Rev. Martin Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends between 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran School Library or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Pollock was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Grand Island to John Henry and Anna Irene (Lohmann) Meier. She received her education at Lockwook School in Merrick County and also at Trinity Lutheran School. She then attended Grand Island Senior High.
She married
Earl Pollock on Oct. 20, 1937, in Harbine. The couple then farmed in Hall County.
Mrs. Pollock was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Elmer of Grand Island; three daughters, Earlene Strateman of Grand Island, Joy Becker of Rockville, and Ruth Priebe of Omaha; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alma Schultz of Crystal Lake, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Carl, William, Walter, Fred, Edward, and George; and three sisters, Matilda Quandt, Emma Wiemer and Clara Klein.
Alma Brandt
WOOD RIVER -- Alma A. Brandt, 93, of Wood River, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Boxelder cemetery in Mason City. The Rev. Jim Ferguson will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
Miss Brandt was born Dec. 28, 1905, in a sod house in the Cumro community in Custer County to Jochim and Anna (Felske) Brandt. She grew up and received her education at Valley View School in Custer County. At age 22 she began working in Hall County, returning home periodically to work in the Ansley area, caring for children and doing housekeeping.
In 1946 she moved to Grand Island where she worked at St. Francis Hospital for 16 years. She then worked at the Yancey Hotel for several years and later did baby-sitting for an area family for 10 years.
Miss Brandt moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River in 1995.
She enjoyed bird watching, old-time dances and playing her accordion. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir.
Survivors include one sister, Margaretha McCullough of Broken Bow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant twin brother and sister; and brothers, Walter, Henry, David, John, Herman and Lester.
Jack D. Carson
ST. PAUL -- Jack D. Carson, 72, of St. Paul, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Mr. Carson was cremated and there will be no services. A burial of urn ceremony will be held at a later date at the Grand Island Cemetery. Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carson was born March 18, 1926, in Grand Island to Raymond and Nannie (Smith) Carson. He received his education in Grand Island, then served in the Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945.
He returned to Grand Island, where he worked as a plumber for Williams Plumbing. He later worked for Geer Mobile Homes in Grand Island. He then worked at the John Preisendorf farm near St. Paul as a farm laborer and set-up man.
Mr. Carson was a member of Platt Duetsche and the Eagles.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie; one son, Scott; two sisters, Phyllis Anderson of Grand Island and Mildred Webb of Denver; and one brother, Bob Carson of Hudson, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mildred L. Cooley
BROKEN BOW -- Mildred L. Cooley, 91, of Broken Bow, formerly of Ansley, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at the Sandhills Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Ansley with the Rev. J. Green officiating. Burial will be in the Boxelder cemetery south of Ansley.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Cooley was born June 6, 1907, to Harlie and Annie (Ostrand) Johnson near Mason City. She attended school at the Sunny Slope rural school.
She married
Archie Cooley on Nov. 17, 1954, in Kearney. The couple purchased a farm near Mason City and lived there until moving to Ansley in 1962.
Following her husband's death in 1972, Mrs. Cooley moved into the Husker Homes in Ansley. She lived there until 1995 when she moved into Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.
Survivors include three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and seven brothers.
Louise Hatfield
ST. PAUL -- Louise V. Hatfield, 78, of St. Paul, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at the St. Francis Skilled Care Center.
Services are pending at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Alfred Millsap
BROKEN BOW -- Alfred Millsap, 82, of Broken Bow died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at the Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Steve Hicks officiating. Burial will be in the Westerville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials may be made to the Nebraska Special Olympics or the Nebraska Children's Home.
Mr. Millsap was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Grand Island to James and Pearl (Houts) Millsap. The family later moved to a farm northwest of Sargent. Mr. Millsap attended West Union School. After his schooling, he stayed at home to help his father farm.
He married
Lorena Newtson on Feb. 3, 1946, at the Lillian Church north of Broken Bow.
The couple lived north of Sargent before moving to a farm near Westerville in the spring of 1948. The family farmed and ranched in the Westerville community until 1971 when they moved to Broken Bow. Mr. Millsap continued to work on the farm in Westerville until his death.
He was always willing to help his wife cook and bake, and enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Millsap attended the Berean Fundamental Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis and Dwayne of Broken Bow; one daughter, Gaylean Millsap of Lincoln; four grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; four brothers, Merlin, Allen and Cline, all of Broken Bow, and Ellis, of Kearney; two sisters, Dorothy Squier of Broken Bow and Lois (Mrs. Homer) Niedt of Kearney; and one stepsister, Ila (Mrs. Wayne) Wesh of Torrington, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Sharon; and his stepmother, Pearl.
