Laura McCarthy
GIBBON -- Laura S. McCarthy, 83, of Gibbon died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton with the Rev. Ray Kosmicki officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Carmel Home Chapel in Kearney with a 7 p.m. rosary recited by the Rev. Ray Jasinski.
Memorials are suggested to Mount Carmel Home or the Food for the Poor Association.
O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McCarthy was born on July 28, 1914, in Milo, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth (Heinan) Wadle.
She married
Joseph McCarthy on Oct. 31, 1942, in Los Angeles. They lived in Longmont, Colo., where she worked at a hospital. They moved to Gibbon in 1951. She had lived at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney since November 1997.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton and the Altar Society and was a representative for Sacred Heart Parish. She was a member of the Lay Carmelite Order for 40 years and the Gibbon Smile City and Kitchen Band.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael J. of Omaha and John G. of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren; one sister, Martha Mincks of Des Moines, Iowa; and two brothers, Walter Wadle of Des Moines, Iowa, and Leonard Wadle of Indianola, La.
She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Vera Wolles
MISSION, Texas -- Vera Gladys Wolles, 98, of Mission, Texas, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, in Mission, where she had lived for nine years.
Mrs. Wolles was cremated. Kreidler Funeral Home of McAllen, Texas, was in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in July in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Wolles was born on Nov. 15, 1899, at Fullerton to Marshall and Estella Jennings.
She married
John Wolles in 1919 and lived in Fullerton until 1943, when they moved to Grand Island. She worked for Kaufman's for many years and also at Penney's and Skagway.
She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and the Women's Club.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond, Richard and Wendell; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1979. She also was preceded in death by one grandchild; a brother, Clarence Jennings; and two sisters, Hazel Gress and Bethel Hoefer.
William Heins
William F. Heins, 77, 3011 W. Stolley Park Road, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Stanley Imhoff
Stanley F. Imhoff Sr., 79, 815 W. 17th, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Bryan Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior with the Rev. Paul Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Superior. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Imhoff was born Nov. 28, 1918, at Bostwick to Frank and Merle (Sutherland) Imhoff.
He graduated from Superior High School in 1938. He served in the 37th Pursuit Squadron as staff sergeant and in the 365th Bombardment Wing during World War II, earning a Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and American Defense Ribbon.
He married
Rosa Lee Warneking on July 22, 1945. He was honorably discharged from the service on Sept. 19, 1945. Mr. Imhoff worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 34 years as a surveyor and mapmaker. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Imhoff was a member of the American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church of Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife of Grand Island; two son Larry of Minneapolis, Minn. and Stanley Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; three daughters, Kay Morse of Bailey, Colo., Jeanette Imhoff of Manhattan, Kan. and Cindy Thornbrue of Suffolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Margaret Westover
Margaret C. Westover, 95, of Grand Island died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at the Lakeview Nursing Center at Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. C. Roger Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or Lakeview Nursing Center.
Earl Hanel
Earl Norman Hanel, 85, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the St. Edward Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Masonic Children's Home at Fremont.
Mr. Hanel was born on Aug. 30, 1912, at Lindsay to Jerry F. and Ruth (Samuelson) Hanel. He was raised and educated in the Lindsay and Albion area.
He married
Neva L. Parrot on July 17, 1938, at Albion. He entered the U.S. Navy on Jan. 18, 1944, and served as a radar operator during World War II. He was discharged on Dec. 7, 1945.
The couple lived in Grand Island, where Mr. Hanel worked at Carpenter Paper Co. for 10 years, Nebraska Office Service for seven years and Business World Products for 14 years. He served two terms as a Hall County supervisor from 1963 to 1970. He retired in 1978. The couple owned and operated the Yarn Barn for more than 30 years until 1995. Mrs. Hanel died on Aug. 30, 1997.
Mr. Hanel was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Island Masonic Lodge No. 33 A.F. and A.M., Deuel Chapter No. 11 R.A.M.-Lebanon Council No. 24, KT No. 61, past high priest of Nebraska R&SM-Mount; Lebanon Command No. 6KT, Tehama Shrine, Red Cross of Constantine KYCH and LOH Demolay, PGP OES of Nebraska.
Survivors include two grandsons, Kevin Hanel of Grand Island and Greg Hanel of Lincoln.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Earl N. Hanel Jr., in 1997.
Benjamin McKeeman
BELGRADE -- Benjamin C. McKeeman, 72, of Belgrade died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at his home.
Services are pending with Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Kenneth Koenig
PLYMOUTH -- Kenneth L. Koenig, 67, of Plymouth died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at rural Daykin. The Rev. Rick Kanoy will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be until 10 a.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home in Plymouth and one hour before service time at the church. A family prayer service will be at 1:15 p.m. Friday at the parish hall of the church.
A memorial has been established to the family's choice with the church elders in charge.
Mr. Koenig was born on Aug. 24, 1930, at Beatrice to Ernst and Hilda (Meyer) Koenig. He lived for a short time near Plymouth and then moved with his parents to a farm seven miles east of Daykin. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1948.
He married
Lois Schmidt on Feb. 4, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church at rural Harbin. He purchased his parents' and grandparents' farm and lived there until 1995, when he moved into Plymouth.
He was a member and an officer of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Daykin. He was a member of the Jefferson County Fair Board, Farmers Co-op Elevator of Plymouth, Blue Valley Pork Producers and Military Police Company 353 of Fairbury.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark of Daykin and Jim of Grand Island; four daughters, Rebecca (Mrs. Jeff) Wegner of Omaha, Barbara (Mrs. Roy) Bleich of Bellevue, Lori (Mrs. Mike) Lane of Lincoln and Lisa (Mrs. Greg) Nestler of Prairie Village, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and two sisters, Janet (Mrs. Bob) Murray of Beatrice and Doretta (Mrs. Jerry) Griffeth of Lewellen.
