'Robie' Mooney
Roberteen "Robie" Mooney, 84, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center. Her body was cremated.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Beverly cemetery in Beverly, Kan. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mooney was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salina.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Young of Ledyard, Conn.; one daughter, Sharon Garcia of Grand Island; a stepson, Dick Mooney of Elm Creek; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mooney; five sisters and two brothers.
Marvel Stahl
Marvel L. Stahl, 72, of Grand Island died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. A prayer service will be at 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Richard Cheney
KEARNEY -- Richard L. Cheney, 51, of Kearney died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ansley cemetery with the Rev. Mark Joedeman officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mr. Cheney was born on Oct. 8, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, to Orville O. and Cleatus M. (Hedrick) Cheney. He lived most of his life in the Mason City area, where he worked in a bakery and farmed. He moved to a nursing home in Winterset, Iowa, in 1990 because of declining health. He moved to Mount Carmel Home in Kearney in April 1997.
Survivors include a sister, Sandra Billings of Ansley.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, one brother and two sisters.
James Davis
RAVENNA -- James A. Davis, 63, of Ravenna died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Martin Egging will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
'Pat' Fletcher
LITCHFIELD -- Patricia "Pat" Fletcher, 59, of Litchfield died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Litchfield Christian Church. The Rev. Ken Woolery will officiate. Burial will be in the Litchfield Cemetery.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Fletcher was born on Dec. 21, 1938, in Litchfield to Henry and Grace (Horton) Franssen.
At the age of 3, she moved with her family to a farm northeast of Litchfield. She attended school in Litchfield.
She married
Donald Fletcher on June 27, 1955, in Loup City. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Litchfield until 1977, when they moved to Litchfield.
Mrs. Fletcher had worked at Henningson Foods in Ravenna and owned and operated F&F; Repair in Litchfield from 1976 to 1984. She also drove a school bus for the Litchfield and Hazard schools. She worked as a cook for the Hazard Cafe and operated the Eastside Cafe in Litchfield for a year.
Mrs. Fletcher was a member of the Christian Church in Litchfield and helped with the youth group there. She was a member of the Eldergrove Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a Cub Scout leader for eight years, started Girl Scouts in Litchfield and was a leader for six years. She was also on the Old Settlers Board in Litchfield and made parade arrangements for 12 years. She also wrote the Litchfield news for the Sherman County Times.
She enjoyed playing cards, doing crafts, growing flowers and camping and fishing.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Peggy Root of Loup City; two sons, Henry Fletcher and Jim Fletcher, both of Litchfield; a niece, Susie Becker, who was raised in the Fletcher home; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; her mother, Grace Rolfsmeyer of Kearney; and two sisters, Penny Criss of Pleasanton and Jinnie Rieley.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, her father and her stepfather, Walter Rolfsmeyer.
Larry Seufert
LINCOLN -- Larry J. Seufert, 61, of Lincoln died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in El Paso, Texas.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the First Mennonite Church in Lincoln. Steve Ratzlaff will officiate. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Seufert was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Cheryl (Mrs. George) Harwood of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and one sister, Jan Alexander of Chapman.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Chris.
Howard Smidt
TRUMBULL -- Howard W. Smidt, 72, of Trumbull died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings, with the Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Trumbull.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Smidt was born on June 20, 1926, in Adams County to Andy and Mary (Classen) Smidt. He graduated from Trumbull High School in 1944.
He married
Marjorie A. Gildersleeve on Sept. 27, 1947, in Hastings. He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church and lived in Trumbull for 57 years. He was a farmer in the Trumbull area his entire life.
Survivors include his wife; one son, James Smidt of Trumbull; two daughters, Lynn (Mrs. John) Keogh of Trumbull and Ann (Mrs. David) Black of Grand Island; four grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Bassett of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
David John
CAIRO, N.Y. -- David V. John, 70, of Cairo, N.Y., formerly of Loup City, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Revs. Reginald A. Urban and James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Sunday at the church.
