Michael Johnson
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Michael L. Johnson, 39, of Spokane, Wash., died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, as a result of injuries received in a stabbing.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.
Among his survivors is his mother, Nancy Surber of Alda.
Coletta Armstrong
BROKEN BOW -- Coletta Delores Armstrong, 76, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., with the rosary recited at 7 p.m., Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Armstrong was born on Jan. 29, 1922, near Merna to Robert and Dora (Thomas) McCarty. She grew up in the Dale Valley community near Merna and graduated from Merna High School in 1941. She attended the Grand Island School of Business.
She married
Robert E. Armstrong on June 15, 1947. They lived in Broken Bow. Mrs. Armstrong was a homemaker and had also worked as a bookkeeper.
Mr. Armstrong died on Dec. 20, 1987. Mrs. Armstrong continued to live at home until declining health required her to move to the Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in July.
Mrs. Armstrong was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow, the Altar Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center, the Red Cross Bloodmobile and Sandhills Manor Nursing Home.
She enjoyed church work, playing cards and taking the bus with her friends to Pickstown. She also enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Dana) Millsap of Overton; one son, Bob of Lincoln; six grandchildren; one brother, Robert McCaty of Mason City; and two sisters, Lorraine (Mrs. Joe) Mullen of Merced, Calif., and Marg (Mrs. Bob) Stoller of Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Denesia, Dorothy McCormick and Loretta McCarty.
Madeline Curnyn
GREELEY -- Madeline M. Curnyn, 93, of Greeley died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at the Greeley Care Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church with the rosary at 7:30 p.m.
T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Thomas Hall
BOELUS -- Thomas E. Hall, 67, of Boelus died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, of an apparent heart attack on Highway 2 near Cairo.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate. Private family burial will be later.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Hall was born on July 17, 1931, at Shelton to Oscar and Laurine (Warren) Hall. He grew up in the Shelton area, where he attended schools and graduated.
He lived in the Grand Island and Boelus area most of his life.
He married
Joan Moore on Aug. 31, 1952, at Shelton. He worked at several jobs, including 17 years at Richman-Gordman as the stockroom manager and at Nebraska Tractor of Grand Island. At the time of his death, he was working part time at Consolidated Blenders of Grand Island.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, dogs, outdoor activities and being around the river.
He was a member of the Boelus Ball Association.
Survivors include one son, Dan of Grand Island; two daughters, Linda (Mrs. Jaye) Kieselhorst and Cindy (Mrs. Steve) Mason, both of Grand Island; six grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte (Mrs. Stewart) Mayfield and Corrine Wicht, both of Shelton, and Claudia (Mrs. Virgil) Andersen of Colorado; and his fiance, Kay Schlund of Boelus.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Oliver.
Joseph Wirges
PETERSBURG -- Joseph A. Wirges, 72, of Petersburg died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg. The Rev. Jeff Zyla will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 334 of Petersburg.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Visitation will resume after 6:30 p.m. at the church with wake services at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Irene Kroeger
WISNER -- Irene Anna Marie Kroeger, 94, of Wisner died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer. The Rev. James P. Carretto will officiate. Burial will be in the Beemer Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kuzelka Funeral Home in Beemer. Further visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Kroeger was born on June 3, 1904, at Uehling to William and Hannah (Moseman) Blome. She attended Cuming County Rural District 7 School and St. John's Parochial School in Beemer.
She married
Friedrich Kroeger on Feb. 5, 1924, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer. The couple farmed east of Wisner. Mr. Kroeger died on Dec. 10, 1971.
Mrs. Kroeger was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer, its Ladies Aid and Flower Club.
Survivors include two sons, David Kroeger of Fremont and Daniel Kroeger of Milwaukee; three daughters, Ruby Johanna Wooten of Wisner, Ethel (Mrs. Elmer) Heider of Grand Island and Dr. Naomi Kroeger of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verna (Mrs. Herbert) Stork of Lincoln.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, two daughters, one grandson and one brother.
Clara Thompson
LANSING, Mich. -- Clara Marie Thompson of Lansing, Mich., formerly of Grand Island, died Aug. 10, 1998.
Services were on Aug. 13.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Thompson was born at St. Paul to Hans Peter and Ida Marie Lassen.
She moved to Lansing in 1958 after living in Grand Island; Creston, Iowa; Jackson, Miss.; and Rockford, Ill. She taught in the Mason School District for 18 years and received her master's in mathematics while teaching.
After retiring in 1976, she worked as a bookkeeper.
She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Vista Chapter of Creston, Iowa, Spartan Alumni and Grace United Methodist Church. She was an avid bridge player.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Thompson; and one son, Douglas L. Thompson.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay M. Wilson of Holt, Mich.; and four great-grandchildren.
