Lyda Fotinos
SHELTON -- Lyda Fotinos, 72, of Shelton, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital shortly after being admitted.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Shelton Emergency Unit Fund.
Mr. Fotinos was born April 12, 1926, in Center, Mo. to William J. and Georgia Alberta (Mefford) Bontz. She grew up and received her education in that area. She moved to Grand Island to work at the Ordnance plant after high school.
In 1953, she married
Andrew Fotinos were married
in Wood River and lived there and in the surrounding area. She moved to Lincoln in the early 1980's and then to Shelton in the early 1990s.
Survivors include her mother of Shelton; two daughters, Sandra Van Osdol and Linda Fotinos, both of Lincoln; and three brothers, George and Donald of Minden and David of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Betty Grisham of Wheelersberg, Ohio; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, a brother and a sister.
Ethel Lammers
KEARNEY -- Ethel A. Lammers, 93, of Mt. Carmel Home died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1998, at the good Samaritan Hospital where she had been a patient since July 30.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton. The Rev. Dean Hanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary. Further visitation will be until service time on Thursday at the Church.
Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or Mt. Carmel Home.
Mrs. Lammers was born Oct. 2, 1904, in Fullerton to Marion and Jennie (Otten) Yarrington. In 1922 the family moved to Arnold and she worked as a hired girl in several homes.
She married
Art Lammers on Oct. 22, 1923, in Kearney. They lived in Pleasant Valley which was where Mr. Lammers was from. She was a homemaker. In 1960 they moved to Pleasanton. Mr. Lammers died Jan. 21, 1976. In April 1992 she moved to the Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney.
Survivors include three daughters, Pearl (Mrs. Ike) Talbot and Bonnie (Mrs. Herb) Staab, both of Pleasanton and Iola (Mrs. Willard) Krotz of Grand Island; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Lela Halouska of Cozad.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Art on Jan. 21, 1976; three brothers; and three sisters.
Helen Parker
SHELTON -- Helen E. Parker, 80, of Pioneer Apartment in Shelton, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney where she had been a patient for three weeks.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. The Rev. Robert Flynn will officiate. Burial will be in the Ansley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mortuary or prior to services on Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Hospital Cancer Fund or Gibbon Baptist Church.
Mrs. Parker was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Oconto to Ivory and Harritte (McCullough) Real. She grew up and attended school in Ansley. She lived in Wood River in the 1940's and 50's.
She married
Lemuel H. Parker on July 18, 1958, at Phillipsburg, Kan. They lived in Kearney and then Shelton.
Mr. Parker died July 3, 1976. She moved to Wood River in 1984 and then back to Shelton in January 1998.
She was a member of the Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Wood River.
Survivors include one son, Harold Sheen of Kearney; one daughter, Viola Spellman of Shelton; two brothers, Carl Real of Bellingham, Wash. and Melvin Real of Shelton; two sisters, Esther Newman of Lincoln and Zella Newman of Cheyenne, Wyo.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and one infant sister.
Herbert Staab
PLEASANTON -- Herbert Staab, 71, of Pleasanton, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services are pending with Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Edward Bruns
VALENTINE -- Edward Armin Bruns, 81, of Valentine, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine of cancer.
Mr. Bruns was cremated. A memorial service will take place at a later date with burial at the Blackhills National cemetery in Sturgis, S.D.
Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mr. Bruns was born May 20, 1916 at Palmer to William and Johanna (Seim) Bruns. he spent his early life helping on the family farm. He and his brothers had a special talent for breaking workhorses.
He was inducted into the army on June 4, 1942 and was honorably discharged Nov. 10, 1945. He received training in radio communications and repair. He served in the Pacific Theater with the 186th Infantry. He was a decorated soldier, receiving several commendations including the Bronze Star.
After the war, he helped build some of the first electric lines in Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming and Colorado. He worked as a superintendent at the Cherry Todd Electric at Mission and West Central Electric at Murdo, S.D. He also was instrumental in the purchase and running of the Valentine electrical system and served as superintendent.
He married
Wilma Jean Phipps in 1950. He was a devoted father and grandfather.
After retiring he enjoyed raising game birds. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Bobby of Valentine; one daughter, Debra (Mrs. George) McMurtrey of Wyoming; five grandchildren; two brothers, Gerhard Bruns of Central City and Harvey Bruns of Archer; and three sisters, Elsie Weller and Hulda Suck of Central City and Ella Hirsch of Wheatridge, Colo.
He was preceded in death by two brothers,. Albert Bruns and an infant brother, William Bruns and a sister, Helen Bader.
Richard Kaelin
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Richard L. Kaelin, 67, of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Ansley, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Ansley. The Revs. Richard Wilson and Jerry Ruzicka will officiate. Burial will be in Ansley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mr. Kaelin was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Ansley to Louis Joseph and Elma Olivia (Williams) Kaelin. He was a graduate of Ansley High School.
He married
Dolores Dobesh on Dec. 3, 1949 in Minden. He was a manager for Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance Company for 45 years, a RHU member, a Health underwriters member and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cynthia Dee Kaelin of Ft. Stockton, Texas, Karolyn King of McAllen, Texas and Rebecca Lynn Veach of Lubbock; four sons, Richard Bradley Kaelin of Aurora, Colo., John Davis Kaelin of Big Springs, Texas, Paul Franklin Kaelin of Wichita Falls, Texas and Gregory Michael Kaelin of Ft. Worth, Texas; two brothers, Donald Eugene Kaelin of Grand Island and Roland Kaelin of Ansley; one sister, Norma Jean Casteel of Sargent; and 16 grandchildren.
Helen Klanecky
ST. PAUL - Helen K. Klanecky, 100, of St. Paul died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Marks Lutheran Church in St. Paul with the Rev. Robert Carlson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the National Bohemian cemetery south of Elba.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Library Foundation or the St. Paul emergency medical technicians.
Mrs. Klanecky was born August 16, 1897, on a farm west of Farwell to John and Mary (Eret) Horky. She attended a one-room school, District 78, near Farwell. After her schooling she was needed at home to take care of her younger brothers and sister.
She was married
to Joseph Klanecky on February 14, 1920, at her parent's home west of Farwell.
The couple moved to a farm northwest of Farwell where they farmed and raised ducks, geese and chickens. In 1964, Joseph and Helen moved into Farwell. Her husband died in November 1969.
She continued to stay active and in 1993, she and her son Donald moved to Parkside Plaza in St. Paul.
In September 1994, Mrs. Klanecky moved to the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
She enjoyed crocheting, dancing, playing cards, canning, baking (especially Kolaches) and making dandelion wine.
She was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis and Donald, both of St. Paul; one daughter, Darlene Trubl of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dale; one grandson, Brian Klanecky; 10 brothers, George, Jim, John, Joe, Raymond, Alfred, Louie, Vince, Gilbert and Henry Horky and one sister, Emma Holub.
