Roy Erickson
Roy A. Erickson, 60, of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, formerly of Lexington, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at the hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Oxford with the Rev. Dallas Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Edison cemetery in Edison.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at Kleine Funeral Home and from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church in Oxford.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Erickson was born on Dec. 31, 1927, to Wallace and Maggie (Moore) Erickson. He was raised on a farm by Will and Nellie Moore after his mother's death. He attended high school in Holdrege. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married
Jean Carson in 1950.
His father owned and operated Erickson's Electric in Holdrege and taught him how to be an electrician. Mr. Erickson became a licensed electrician and worked as one most of his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and liked to cook.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Agostine of Grand Island; four sons, Mike Erickson of Brownsville, Ore., and Rick, Gary and Scott Erickson of Oxford; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Harold Erickson of Elwood and Laverne Erickson of Holdrege; his stepmother, Collette Erickson of Holdrege; one stepsister and seven stepbrothers.
He was preceded in death by one son, David; and one daughter, Patti Anderson.
Ruth Slominski
Ruth A. Slominski, 78, of Norfolk, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Heritage of Bel Aire Nursing Center in Norfolk.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. Mrs. Slominski will be cremated following the service. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in the Loup City Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. Monday until service time at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Loup City Methodist Church.
Mrs. Slominski was born on Aug. 29, 1919, at Rockville to Pete and Edith (Strom) Jensen. She was raised and educated in Rockville. She attended Kearney State College, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees.
She married
Sylvester Slominski on Aug. 29, 1938, at Smith Center, Kan. They lived in Loup City. He died on Oct. 24, 1967.
She moved to Grand Island in 1971, where she worked as a teacher for the Grand Island public schools for 13 years. She retired in 1984.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, Grand Island Woman's Club, Retired Teachers Association, YMCA board and American Association of University Women.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. James Slominski of Fall City, Jack Slominski of Stratford, Wis., Jerry Slominski of Alexandria, Va.; three daughters, Ruth Ann Kaufman of Kearney, Elaine Carpenter of Lincoln and Mary McCoy of Hoskins; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dale Jensen of San Mateo, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Colin Jones
TRUMBULL -- Colin P. Jones, 42, of Trumbull died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul with the Rev. Larry Lepper officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery in Dannebrog.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Jones was born on Nov. 16, 1955, at Scottsbluff to Douglas and Joleen (Morero) Jones. He was raised and attended school in Scottsbluff. When he was 10, he lived with his sister, Marjorie, because of his parents' death. He attended a military academy in Ponca City, Okla. He attended college in Idaho, where he took electronic classes. He and his brother opened an electronic repair business. He was also a machinist and had worked in Kearney.
He married
Mary Meyer on April 8, 1993, at St. Paul. He was disabled because of an illness. He collected rocks and artifacts. He liked hunting, fishing, antiques, camping, nature and woodworking. He was baptized as a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Erica Jones of Cameron, Mo.; three stepsons, Lucas Peterson of Cameron, Mo., Clint Jarman of Doniphan and Casey Jarman of Trumbull; two stepdaughters, Jenny Rubek of Hastings and Stephanie Jarman of Trumbull; two sisters, Marjorie Hosmer of San Jose, Calif., and Donna O'Neill of Tulsa, Okla.; and one brother, Douglas Jones Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter.
Katherine Kanter
PALMER -- Katherine A. Kanter, 70, of Palmer died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer with the Rev. Robert Schilling officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Palmer.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church building fund.
Mrs. Kanter was born on Nov. 3, 1927, at Central City to Otto and Susanna (Doncheske) Butt. She grew up and was educated at Central City, where she graduated from high school in 1946.
She married
Clarence Kanter at Central City on June 24, 1951. They farmed southwest of Palmer. She sewed many wedding dresses and enjoyed taking care of flowers and her yard.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a past member of St. John's Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Palmer Women's Auxiliary and was a past member of Gage Valley School Board.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence; two sons, Wayne of York and Robert of Palmer; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Illa Jean Scherer and Dorothy Irwin, both of Central City.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Adolph Butt; and two grandchildren, Michelle and Angela Kanter.
Stacie Parkos
ORD -- Stacie A. Parkos, 83, of Ord died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Warner officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic School.
Mrs. Parkos was born on Nov. 18, 1914, at Sargent to John and Anna (Muller) Vondracek. She grew up in Sargent and graduated from Sargent High School in 1933. She continued her education at Omaha Beauty School.
She married
Albert A. Parkos Jr. on July 14, 1936, at Sargent. They lived in Ord, where they owned and operated Ord Hardware Store until 1977. He died on March 13, 1975. She continued to live in Ord until her death.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, its altar society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a past member of Ord Does.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. ElRoy) Linkugel of Lincoln and Joyce (Mrs. Jerome) Wadas of Ord, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Tillie Parkos and Clara Jelinek.
Harold Kvam
NEWMAN GROVE -- Harold E. Kvam, 79, of Newman Grove, formerly of Albion, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion with the Revs. Larry Spomer and David Loeschen officiating. Burial will be in North Branch East cemetery in rural Petersburg.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.
Memorials are suggested to Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion or Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.
Mr. Kvam was born on Nov. 6, 1918, at Boone County to Knud K. and Minnie E. (Wolfe) Kvam. He graduated from Boone County School District No. 57 in May 1934 and later graduated from Albion High School.
He lived on the family farm northeast of Albion, where he farmed and raised livestock. He enjoyed working with mechanics, was an avid reader and was very interested in history. He attended local sports events and encouraged young athletes. He lived at Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove for several years.
He was a member of Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Martha Brewer of Glidden, Iowa; three nieces, Moselle (Mrs. Paul) Loeschen of Glidden, Iowa, Jennine Johnson of Glen Avon, Calif., and Eunice (Mrs. Ken) Gegel of Baldwin, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ethelyn Kvam and his half-brother, Rev. Elmer Brewer.
