Michelle Binder
TABLE ROCK -- Michelle Lynn Binder, infant daughter of Todd and April (Czaplewski) Binder of Table Rock, died at birth Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services were on Wednesday at Faith Baptist Church in Pawnee City. Burial was in the Table Rock Cemetery. Wherry Mortuary of Pawnee City was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her parents; maternal grandparents, Janell and Lauren Epp of Henderson and Steve and Theresa Czaplewski of Grand Island; paternal grandparents, Lynn and Elaine Binder of Table Rock; and great-grandparents, Ruby and Leonard Czaplewski of Loup City, Leona Epp of Henderson, Forrest Binder, Delores Gilbert and Betty and Allen Keep.
She was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Dwain Gilbert, Kathryn Binder, Dennis Kuszak and Alvin Epp.
Shaylynn Pickett
LINCOLN -- Shaylynn Renee Pickett, 4 months, of Lincoln died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Hannemann officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Shaylynn was born on April 8, 1998, in Lincoln.
Survivors include her mother, Shawna Pickett of Lincoln; her father, Jeff Richardson of Lincoln; one stepsister, Tianna Richardson of Lincoln; one stepbrother, Mitchell Dahlgren of Lincoln; paternal grandparents, Norman and Brenda Richardson of Lincoln; maternal grandfather, Tom Pickett of Cleveland; and maternal grandmother, Joanne Autry of Grand Island.
John Stoltenberg
FREMONT -- John H. Stoltenberg, 86, of Fremont died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. John Whalen will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery at Fremont.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with a 3 p.m. wake service.
Further visitation will be one hour before service time Monday at the church.
Mr. Stoltenberg was born on July 9, 1912, in Colfax County to Andrew and Mary (Costello) Stoltenburg. He moved into Schuyler with his family when he was a teen-ager.
He married
Rita Weber on Feb. 12, 1936, at Hebron. He worked as a mechanic at the Chevrolet dealership in Schuyler. He moved to Fremont in 1940 and continued to work as a mechanic. He started working as a painter for several painting contractors in the 1950s. He worked as a painter for the Fremont Public School System from 1969 until retiring in 1979.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Fremont and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 200 at Fremont.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert F. "Fred" Stoltenberg of Grand Island and Jim E. Stoltenberg of Fremont; one daughter, Eleanor Stoltenberg of Fremont; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald Stoltenberg of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by three infant sons; one infant daughter; two brothers, Andrew and Leo Stoltenberg; and a sister, Veronica Stephenson.
Ray Alexander
Ray Alexander, 83, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate.
Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church.
Mr. Alexander was born on Sept. 2, 1915, at Grand Island to John and Cara (Phelps) Alexander. He grew up in Grand Island, except for nine years of his youth that were spent on a farm in Sherman County. He was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1933.
He married
Irene Scheibe on Nov. 26, 1938, at Smith Center, Kan. The couple lived in Grand Island throughout their marriage. He worked for the Grand Island Utilities Department for 36 years.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, United Commercial Travelers and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dick and Ron, both of Grand Island; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson; one sister, Ruth Alexander; and one brother, Robert Alexander.
Nels Andersen
Nels Andersen, 76, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Naomi Krug
Naomi M. Krug, 80, of Grand Island died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Bremer will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Krug was born on Oct. 18, 1917, at Seward to Herman and Minnie (Kehmeier) Bluhm. They lived on a farm until the 1920s, when they moved to Oregon. They later moved back to Seward, where she graduated from Seward High School in 1934.
She married
Laurence Krug on June 25, 1939, at Seward. They lived for the next 15 years in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma while working for Peter Kiewit and Sons Construction Co. They built their home at 2103 Park Drive in 1958.
She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. She had been a member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1958. She had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for 40 years.
She enjoyed flower gardening, backyard nature and special pets.
Survivors include her husband and one son, Dennis Krug of Memphis, Tenn.
Helen Larsen
Helen B. Larsen, 91, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Dorothy Majer
Dorothy I. Majer, 85, of Grand Island, formerly of Ravenna, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Doug DeNeui will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Congregational Church or the Ravenna Emergency Unit.
Mrs. Majer was born on Jan. 11, 1913, in Cowles to John and Bernice (Bennett) Malick. She was educated in Cowles and, after high school graduation, attended beauty school in Hastings.
She married
Frank "Keasch" Majer on Aug. 7, 1934, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Ravenna. Mrs. Majer had worked at Warrick's Clothing Store in Ravenna and the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant.
Mrs. Majer was a member of the Congregational Church in Ravenna and Eastern Star. She was a volunteer at the Ravenna Good Samaritan Center for 25 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Jacquetta Pesek of Grand Island, Linda Brundage of Las Animas, Calif., and Barb Sealey of Polk; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Malick of California and Rosco Malick of Lincoln; and one sister, Jane Sabin of California.
Her husband died in 1988. She also was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Richard Mangelsen
Richard E. Mangelsen, 43, of Grand Island died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate.
Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
Mr. Mangelsen was born on July 15, 1955, at Grand Island to Emil and Helen (Halsteadf) Mangelsen. He was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1973.
He attended Hastings Community College. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 12 years and later worked for Goodwill Industries.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his parents, of Grand Island; one brother, Donald of Grand Island; and one sister, Nancy of Grand Island.
