'Robie' Mooney
Roberteen "Robie" T. Mooney, 84, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be at a later date in Beverly, Kan.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Mooney was born on Jan. 26, 1914, in Beverly, Kan., to John and Georgia (Van Camp) Radford. She attended school in Beverly and Salina, Kan. She married
William Mooney. She worked as a meat wrapper and checker at Dillon's grocery store in Salina. During World War II, she worked in Parsons, Kan.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Young of Ledyard, Conn.; one daughter, Sharon Garcia of Grand Island; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and two brothers.
Wanda Rosenbach
Wanda C. Rosenbach, 76, of 1012 S. Greenwich died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A memorial will be established at a later date.
Mrs. Rosenbach was born Jan. 7, 1922, at Coleridge to Theodore and Francis (Doolin) Dempsay. She graduated from Coleridge High School in 1940.
She married
Melvin Rosenbach on Dec. 25, 1942, at Wichita Falls, Texas. The couple owned and operated the Randolph, Neb., Oil Co. and Randolph Trucking. They moved in 1974 to Atkinson, where they managed the Elkhorn Meadows Housing Project. They retired and moved to Grand Island in 1989.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Atkinson and was a lioness in the Atkinson Lions Club.
Survivors include a son, Gary of Dannebrog; two grandchildren; and a brother, Dick Dempsay of Coleridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and four brothers.
Harold Sjoholm
I. Harold Sjoholm, 87, of 1915 W. Arthur died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at Community Care of Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Hospital.
Mr. Sjoholm was born on Feb. 24, 1911, at Courtland, Kan., to John and Hilma (Rosene) Sjoholm. He grew up in Courtland, Kan., and graduated from Courtland High School in 1929. He entered the U.S. Navy Air Corps and served in the Alaska theater during World War II.
He married
Adrienne Mahoney on Sept. 15, 1945, in San Diego. Upon his discharge, they lived in Scottsbluff from 1945 to 1966, when they moved to Grand Island. Mr. Sjoholm had worked for Carr-Trumbull Lumber Co. in Scottsbluff and Hoppe Lumber and Mead Lumber in Grand Island. He retired in 1991.
Mr. Sjoholm was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks and Kiwanis. He had been president of the Parent-Teacher Association in Scottsbluff and served two terms on the Scottsbluff City Council.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Carren (Mrs. Terry) Oshel of Seward; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Adaline Day of Chanute, Kan. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Esther Horacek
FULLERTON -- Esther Horacek, 95, of Fullerton died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Central Nebraska Rehab Center in Fullerton.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Horacek was born on Nov. 9, 1902, near North Star to William and Agusta (Stankey) Bridgeland. She grew up in the North Star area and attended rural schools. She attended two years of high school in Iowa.
She married
Joseph Horacek on June 5, 1920, at Central City. They farmed in the North Star area until 1959, when they moved to Fullerton. Mrs. Horacek worked at the bowling alley. Mr. Horacek died on May 11, 1960.
Mrs. Horacek enjoyed bowling, playing cards and marbles. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a past member of the North Star Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Gerald) Trotter, Leatrice (Mrs. Edward) Knopik and Jeanne Hinricks, all of Fullerton, and Phyllis Dolan of North Platte; 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dayle; a daughter, Thelma; two brothers, Art Bridgeland and an infant brother; and three sisters, Frances Horacek, Viola Swartz and Jessie Taylor.
Helen Myers
ORD -- Helen Mary Myers, 90, of Ord, formerly of Denver, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hardy Union Church in Hardy, east of Superior. Burial will be in the Superior Cemetery. The Rev. Dale Bussinger will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Further visitation will be prior to service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church.
She was born on Nov. 23, 1907, at the family farm in Jewell County, Kan., to Chasteen Lee and Luella Mary (Powell) Myers. She attended Star Country School and graduated from Hardy High School in 1924.
She completed beauty school at Kansas City and began her career in Broken Bow. After a few years, she moved to Long Beach, Calif., where she lived for 12 years. She then moved to Denver, where she lived for 36 years.
She retired in 1981 after 56 years as a beautician. She moved to Hardy in 1982 to be with her sister, Orpha Lee Perry. They moved to Ord in 1984 and lived with Mrs. Perry's son, Pat Perry.
Miss Myers took a cruise on the Queen Mary in 1953 to visit Wales and the home of her grandparents, Morgan and Ellen Powell. She traveled Europe extensively. She also visited Thailand, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Japan, Egypt, Jerusalem, Australia and New Zealand. She was instrumental in hosting the National Cosmetology Convention in Denver.
She was a member of the Calvary Temple in Denver, served on numerous church committees and taught Sunday school for 22 years. She loved ringing the bells for the Salvation Army and attending the opera, Broadway musicals and plays.
Survivors include her sister, Orpha Lee Perry of Ord; and six nieces and nephews, including Pat Perry and Janet Lee Suminski of Ord. She was preceded in death by one brother, Dale Myers.
Kathleen Rourke
AURORA -- Kathleen R. Rourke, 70, of Aurora died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in Memorial Community Care at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Mrs. Rourke was cremated, and burial of ashes will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell. Higby Mortuary of Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rourke was born on Oct. 11, 1927, at Independence, Mo., to Carl and Blanche (Ownings) Reynolds. She grew up and was educated at Independence, Mo.
She married
Floyd Rourke on July 25, 1961. They lived in California, Indiana and York. They moved to Aurora in 1994.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and was an avid bowler.
Survivors include her husband; one son, John Bowling of Grand Island; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Margaret Rubesh
PALMER -- Margaret A. Rubesh, 67, of Palmer died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Mike McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery at Palmer.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Palmer with an 8 p.m. rosary.
Mrs. Rubesh was born on Aug. 4, 1931, in Palmer to Bernard and Roberta (Stout) O'Hern. She attended Palmer schools and graduated from Palmer High School in 1949.
She worked at telephone companies in St. Paul and Grand Island after she graduated.
She married
Carroll Rubesh on Sept. 17, 1956, in St. Paul. They moved to Iowa in 1957. In 1966, they moved back to Palmer, where she worked at Lemmerman's Hatchery for a time. She then worked at St. Francis Hospital until retiring in 1994.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Survivors include one son, Greg Rubesh of Grand Island; three daughters, Marcia Earnhart of St. Paul and Sara (Mrs. Robert) Suggs and Brenda (Mrs. Rick) Rodocker, both of Grand Island; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Williams of Fullerton; and two brothers, Barney O'Hern of Palmer and Tim O'Hern of Denver.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Tony; and one sister, Mary.
George Stromp
SPALDING -- George A. Stromp, 96, of Spalding died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Friendship Villa in Spalding.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. Frank Hoelck will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m., Wednesday at Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
