Eddie Uhrmacher
HASTINGS -- Eddie Raymond Louis Uhrmacher, 56, of Hastings died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, as the result of a traffic accident south of Hastings.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church southwest of Hastings. The Rev. Clinton McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery southwest of Hastings.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Further visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Adams County 4-H.
Mr. Uhrmacher was born on Oct. 13, 1941, at the family home southwest of Hastings to Arthur and Mabel (Pfeifer) Uhrmacher. He attended Kelly District 35 School and graduated from Hastings High School in 1959.
Following graduation, he served in the National Guard and then farmed full time.
He married
Sharon Busboom on March 4, 1962, at Hanover Presbyterian Church near Glenvil.
He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the church council and as a church usher. He was a past officer and member of South Central Pork Producers, Cattleman's Association, seed dealer for Acco, Paymaster, Cargill and Stine, Denver Township treasurer, director on the Juniata Co-op board and 4-H leader. He enjoyed bowling.
He was named Hastings Kiwanis Farmer of the Year in 1994. The Uhrmacher Family Farm received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award for 100 years of continuous family ownership in 1996. The Lincoln Journal Star awarded the Uhrmachers with its Farm Family of the Year Award in 1997.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randy of Juniata and Kevin of Hastings; one daughter, Cynthia (Mrs. Mark) Gangwish of Ayr; five grandchildren; and one brother, Elmer Uhrmacher of Juniata.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Paul Christensen
HOLDREGE -- Paul Theodore Christensen, 70, of Holdrege died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at North Park Assembly of God Church in Holdrege. The Revs. Bruce Dailey, Ted Brust and Bruce Riddle will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Home cemetery in Holdrege.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege. Further visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.
Memorials are suggested to Impact Ministries to support prison ministry in Nebraska or Campus Life to support ministry to teens in the area.
Mr. Christensen was born on Nov. 29, 1927, at Orleans to Theodore and Millie (Noren) Christensen. He attended country school in the rural Beaver City area.
He married
Geraldine Perkins of Beaver City on Dec. 19, 1943.
He spent his life in the trucking business, establishing Christensen Truck Line in 1943 and hauling freight and livestock until 1964. In 1964, he founded Speedway Transportation, which became the nation's largest livestock hauling company. He was active in the business until his health failed in the early summer of 1998.
He was an active member of North Park Assembly of God Church in Holdrege. He helped extensively with the building project when the church relocated to 14th and Burlington.
He was also a board of deacons member for several terms. He had a keen interest in many ministries and was a strong supporter of foreign missions. For many years, he was active in Full Gospel Businessmen International and was the local chapter president. He was also a member of the Association of Christian Truckers and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jerry and Brent of Holdrege; one daughter, Karla (Mrs. Mark) Blevins of Holdrege; seven grandchildren; one brother, Ralph of Beaver City; and two sisters, Elsie (Mrs. Wayne) Dunlap of Arapahoe and Effie (Mrs. Vernon) Champlin of Derby, Kan.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rogene Argue; and three sisters, Edith Young, Edna Harman and Estelline Brown.
Laura Treat
LINCOLN -- Laura Louise Treat, 88, of Lincoln, formerly of Doniphan, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at the Ambassador Lincoln in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Doniphan. The Rev. Bill Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview cemetery at Doniphan.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Further visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Doniphan Public School System.
Mrs. Treat was born on July 27, 1910, in Adams County near Juniata to William and Amelia (Vilmer) Golgert. She graduated from Inland High School and received her bachelor's degree from Hastings College. She earned her master's degree from Kearney State College.
She taught in rural Adams County schools.
She married
Wilbur Treat on Dec. 23, 1939, in Kearney. She lived most of her life in Doniphan, teaching for more than 20 years in Doniphan schools before moving to Kensington in 1992. She later moved to the Ambassador Lincoln. Mr. Treat preceded her in death.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Doniphan Book Club and United Methodist Women and had been a Sunday school superintendent, all in Doniphan.
Survivors include one son, Jim Treat of Lincoln; one daughter, Barbara (Mrs. William) Peglow of Imperial; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, LaVon Terrell of Torrington, Wyo.; and one brother, Alvin Golgert of Hordville.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Ronald Dettman
Ronald D. Dettman, 59, of 624 E. Bismark died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
No services are planned. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Dettman was born on May 15, 1939, at Sterling, Ill., to Rudolph and Gladys (Emmit) Dettman. He grew up and was educated in Sterling, Ill., graduating from Sterling High School. He moved to Chicago.
He married
Barbara J. Pugasek on May 2, 1964, at Sterling, Ill. They lived throughout the Midwest, and he worked as an executive for Tractor Supply Co. They moved to Grand Island in 1993, and he worked as a buyer for Country General.
He served in the Army Reserve.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Steven of Las Vegas; one daughter, Karen (Mrs. Wade) Kordonowy of Kansas City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his father, of Rock Falls, Ill.; one brother, Lloyd of Rock Falls, Ill.; and two sisters, Joyce (Mrs. Merlyn) Book of Sterling, Ill., and Lyla Mae (Mrs. Dan) Pope of Rock Falls, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Morgan Enck
Morgan Elizabeth Enck, infant daughter of Todd and Kelly (Lyons) Enck of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, shortly after birth at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Enck will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Darrell and Dorothy Enck of Grand Island and Wesley and Kathryn Lyons of Omaha; and great-grandparents, Elaine Anderson of St. Edward, James and Ruby Haile of Doniphan and Otto Nauenburg of St. Edward.
She was preceded in death by great-grandparents, George Anderson, Roy and Myrtle Enck and Ruth Nauenburg.
Mildred Gits
Mildred M. Gits, 79, of 3423 W. Kelly No. 221 died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Community Care of America.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Julie Bringelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Hazard Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Gits was born on April 20, 1919, near Litchfield to Alfred "Al" and Elvina (Sandstrom) Gray. She grew up in the Litchfield area and was educated at a country school. She lived and worked on the family farm. Later she moved to California.
She married
Robert Gits on May 2, 1941, in Los Angeles. They moved back to Nebraska in the early 1950s and owned and operated a restaurant in Mason City. They moved back to California in late 1950s, and she became a beautician.
They moved in 1972 from Los Angeles to Klamath Falls, Ore., where they managed a motel until Mr. Gits died in 1977. Mrs. Gits moved to Portland and worked at the Circle K Convenience Store. She retired to Grand Island in 1985.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She was an avid baseball fan and liked to play cards and bingo.
Survivors include two sons, Roger of Searcy, Ark., and Dennis of Seattle; five grandchildren; two sisters, Sadie (Mrs. Stewart) Gallaway of Loup City and Doris (Mrs. Thurman) Clausen of Kearney.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Melvin; and two sister, Selma Gallaway and an infant sister, Lola.
