Effie Dahlsten
ERICSON -- Effie Dahlsten, 82, of Ericson died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Ericson. The Rev. Cynthia Altstadt will officiate. Burial will be in the Pible Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Ericson.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Cody Majerus
ALBION -- Cody J. Majerus, 5, son of George and Cynthia (Choat) Majerus of Albion, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at the Boone County Health Center as a result of a traffic accident.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with the Revs. Brian Bergum and Ray Avidano officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Bea Rhodes
AURORA -- Bea Rhodes, 86, of Aurora, formerly of Giltner, died Friday, April 24, 1998, in Aurora.
Mrs. Rhodes is survived by a sister, Madge Haymart of Aurora.
Services are pending with Higby Mortuary of Aurora.
Richard Kool
YANKTON, S.D. -- Richard L. Kool, 84, of Yankton died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Yankton with the Rev. Rodney Farke officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery in Yankton with military graveside rites by Ernest-Bowyer Post 791 of Yankton.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton with a 7:30 p.m. rosary and an 8 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation will continue one hour before the service Monday at the church.
Mr. Kool was born on Sept. 11, 1913, at Crofton to Aris and Mary (Fults) Kool. He grew up in Crofton and was educated there. He entered the U.S. Army in the summer of 1942 and served in Germany, the Battle of the Buldge and the Anzio landing in Italy.
He married
Delores Hegge in July 1942 at Holy Trinity Church in Hartington. After leaving the service, he farmed in the Bloomfield and Crofton areas. He retired in 1968 and moved to Crofton and later to Yankton.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and St. Benedic's Catholic Church in Yankton.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard of Grand Island, Robert of Gayville, S.D., and Randy of Fountain, Colo.; two daughters, Corriene (Mrs. Al) Jordahl of Yankton and Linda (Mrs. Harley) Schieffer of Clarinda, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
James Spiehs
DONIPHAN -- James C. Spiehs, 46, of Doniphan died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Doniphan. The Rev. Rod Armon will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview cemetery at Doniphan.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Further visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Sadie Stonebarger
GIBBON -- Sadie E. Stonebarger, 97, of Gibbon died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.
Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Mark W. Cadenbach will officiate.
No visitation is planned. Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon-Shelton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Emergency Unit or Faith United Church in Gibbon.
Mrs. Stonebarger was born on July 10, 1900, in Kearney to the Rev. Rolland and Mable (Pearson) Kauffroath. She grew up in that area.
She married
Ben 'Sox' Stonebarger on Jan. 31, 1927, in Oakdale. The couple lived in Gibbon. She had worked at the Gambles Store in Gibbon and Young Moderns in Kearney.
She was a member of Faith United Church, Yanks and Eastern Star Cement Chapter, all of Gibbon.
Survivors include four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rose Furgason of Gibbon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a granddaughter and two brothers.
Vernon White
BROKEN BOW -- Vernon F. White, 84, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 Saturday at the First Christian Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
A memorial has been established to the church.
Mr. White was born on Feb. 22, 1914, at Brewster to Thomas Frank and Mary R. (Waters) White. He attended school at Brewster and then worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, helping establish the forest at Halsey. He later drove a mail route at Brewster.
He served in the U.S. Army from October 1942 to January 1946. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart.
He married
Arlene Schmidt on Jan. 30, 1946, at Anselmo. He worked on a ranch near Brewster. They moved in the summer of 1947 to Oregon, where he worked at a lumber mill with his brother.
They returned to Broken Bow in 1948, and he worked for Bow Oil. He began working for the Nebraska Department of Roads about 1950. He retired in 1979, after 29 years with the department.
Mr. White was a member of the First Christian Church in Broken Bow, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Dennis White of Broken Bow; three daughters, Elaine (Mrs. Larry) Gimpel of Aurora, Cindy White of Lincoln and Delores (Mrs. Jim) Adams of Hutchinson, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Turner of Greeley, Colo.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Janet Ballard
COLCHESTER, Vt. -- Janet L. Ballard, 62, of Colchester, Vt., formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at her home.
A family service is pending there.
LaVigne Funeral Home of Winooski, Vt., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Professional Center for Handicapped Children.
Mrs. Ballard was born on Sept. 11, 1935, at Scotia to Dr. Howard and Anita Royer. She was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1953. She completed dental hygiene courses and graduated from Kansas City Western Dental College. She worked for dentists in Grand Island, York and Lincoln.
She married
Eugene H. Ballard on Dec. 20, 1958, in Grand Island. They lived in Wilmington, Del., and Andover, Mass. Mr. Ballard died on Aug. 27, 1994. Mrs. Ballard later moved to Vermont.
She was a member of the Christ Church in Andover, Mass., and was a volunteer for the Merrimack River Water Shed and other organizations.
Survivors include two sons, Brian of Winooski, Vt., and Brent of Waterbury, Vt.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; her parents, Jack and Anita Cory of Grand Island; and a sister, Patricia Everett of Breckenridge, Colo.
