William Shaver
TAMPA, Fla. -- William C. Shaver, 62, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at his home.

Joseph Bryl
Joseph Bryl, 77, of Grand Island, formally of Farwell, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba. The Rev. Larry Coulter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery at Elba with graveside military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Bryl was born on Sept. 17, 1920, on a farm southwest of Elba to John and Mary (Koperski) Bryl. He began his education at Elba Public Schools. The family then moved to a farm southwest of Farwell, and he continued his education at Kelso District School 10.
Upon completing his education, he farmed with his father. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. Upon his discharge, he returned to farm near Farwell. He lived there for many years and later moved into Farwell. He moved to the Grand Island Veterans Home in August 1994.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba.
Survivors include one sister, Clara Siuda of Loup City.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother and a half sister, Angie Bogus.
'Gayle' Hansen
Leola 'Gayle' Hansen, 77, of Grand Island, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died March 6, 1998, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Odd Fellows Hall, 825 N. White. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial was in Sioux City Memorial Park.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Hansen was born on Nov. 3, 1920, at Gregory, S.D., to Maurice and Olive (Moore) Horton. She grew up and was educated in Sioux City, Iowa, and graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1938. She attended Edwards Business Institute at Sioux City.
She married
Harry O. Hansen on Nov. 18, 1959, at Sioux City. The couple lived in Sioux City. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. H.P. White for more than 30 years and later worked for Dr. Crarey's dental office. She retired in 1967. Mr. Hansen died in 1968, and Mrs. Hansen continued to live in Sioux City. She moved to Grand Island in 1971.
She was a certified dental assistant and served as president of Iowa State Dental Assistants.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge, which she served as past noble grand.
Survivors include one sister, Donna Van DeMark of Grand Island.
Ethan Kleier
Ethan L. Kleier, 34, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Donald Lovell will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
Mr. Kleier was born on Aug. 17, 1963, at Belleville, Ill., to Nathan and Donna (Ring) Kleier. He began his education in East St. Louis Public Schools. The family moved to Lexington in 1979 and to St. Paul in 1980.
He was a 1982 graduate of St. Paul High School. He served in the Nebraska National Guard for the next 12 years.
He married
Joanne Huebner on Oct. 25, 1986, at Dannebrog. The couple lived in North Loup. He moved to Grand Island in March 1996. He worked at Wal-Mart and later worked in maintenance at the Interstate Holiday Inn.
He enjoyed camping and fishing.
He volunteered for the Salvation Army.
Survivors include three sons, John, Alexander and Joseph Kleier, all of Grand Island; two daughters, Jessica and Justina Kleier, both of Grand Island; his parents, both of Grand Island; two brothers, Kenneth Kleier of Oregon and Byron Kleier of Grand Island; six sisters, Rita (Mrs. Don) Baker of Illinois, Lena (Mrs. Randy) Dvorak of St. Paul, Elaine (Mrs. Dave) Hill of Arcadia, Reba Hofaker and Kay (Mrs. Ted) Eliker, both of Holdrege, and Jackie Dierberger of St. Libory.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Dr. Lezlie Cook
BROKEN BOW -- Dr. Lezlie Lynn Cook, 44, of Broken Bow died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Visitation also will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with funeral services at 7 p.m., Thursday at Dawson Wikoff Colonial Chapel North in Decatur, Ill.
Additional visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Ferguson Lee Funeral Home in Bedford, Ind. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hopkins cemetery in Needmore, Ind.
Memorials are suggested to an educational fund for Alexis Cook.
Mrs. Cook was born on Nov. 29, 1953, in Bedford, Ind., to Walter and June (Benham) Fiddler. At a young age, she moved with her family to Decatur, Ill., where she attended school and graduated from high school.
She attended Eastern Illinois University at Charleston and Lakeland College, where she received a degree in dental hygiene. She worked as a dental hygienist in Decatur, Ill., for 12 years.
She married
Mike Cook on June 7, 1975, at the First Presbyterian Church in Mattoon, Ill.
She attended Sangamon State University in Illinois and graduated from the University of Nebraska Dental College in Lincoln in 1991. She moved with her family in 1992 to Broken Bow, where she purchased a dental practice from Dr. Paula Harre.
She was a member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry. Her hobbies included walleye fishing.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Alexis Cook of Broken Bow; her parents, of Portage, Mich.; and two sisters, Coralesa (Mrs. Fred) Horne of Illiopolis, Ill., and Beverly (Mrs. Stan) McGee of Decatur, Ill.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Julie C. Johnson.
Robert Cornelius
AURORA -- Robert Arthur Cornelius, 79, of Aurora, formerly of Phillips, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Phillips United Methodist Church. The Revs. Richard Brian and Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Cornelius was born on Jan. 15, 1919, on a farm southwest of Phillips to George and Rosalie (Bartz) Cornelius.
He attended District 88 School and graduated from Phillips High School in 1936. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year and was a member of AGR fraternity.
He married
Esther Dean on May 12, 1940. They lived in California during World War II. They returned to Omaha for one year before moving back to Phillips, where he operated a repair shop at Otto's Station.
Later he moved his shop into Phillips, started a mink farm north of town and operated it for 18 years. He also worked as a shop foreman for Heinzman Engineering for 10 years.
After his retirement, they moved to Lake McConaughy for 15 years and moved to Aurora in 1996. His health failed in 1997, and he entered the Hamilton Manor in February 1998.
He was an avid baseball fan and coached the Phillips baseball team for many years. He was also foreman of the volunteers who helped build the Phillips Gymnasium.
He was a member of the Phillips United Methodist Church and served on the building committee. He was a Master Mason of Keystone Masonic Lodge 62 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite and past patron of Order of the Eastern Star Phillips Chapter 204.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sharol Reab of Santa Rosa, Calif.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Mabon of Phillips and Erma Bergholz of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Marlatt.
