Alice Wilson
AURORA, Colo. -- Graveside services for Alice Duffy Wilson, 89, of Aurora, Colo., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Central City Cemetery.
The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate.
Mrs. Wilson died on Feb. 26, 1998, at Cherry Creek Nursing Home in Aurora, Colo.
Maxine Adams
Maxine C. Adams, 85, of 2309 W. 10th died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Doniphan. The Rev. Bill Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Central Nebraska Humane Society or the United Methodist Church in Doniphan.
Her husband, Clayton H. Adams, died April 5, 1996.
Ben Lukesh
A. Ben Lukesh, 90, of 1223 W. Anna died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mr. Lukesh was born on Aug. 6, 1907, in Ord to William and Ann (Hrdy) Lukesh. He was educated in a rural school south of Ord. He worked on the farm with his father until 1945, when he moved to the Loup City area. He farmed there until 1965, when he came to Grand Island.
He married
Esther Gweke in 1944. Mrs. Lukesh died in 1948.
He married
Estelle Sonnenfeld in 1958 in Loup City.
Mr. Lukesh was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle; two daughters, Donna (Mrs. Dave) Jacobs of Rapid City, S.D., and Alice (Mrs. Dale) Walter of Denver; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Archie and Bud; two sisters and one brother.
Homer Burow
BROKEN BOW -- Homer Burow, 98, of Broken Bow, formerly of Merna, died Monday, April 13, 1998, in Broken Bow.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Merna cemetery near Merna. The Rev. Doug Jones will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mr. Burow was born on Oct. 26, 1899, near Merna to Herman T. and Laura Helen (Thomas) Burow. He graduated from Merna High School. He spent nearly all his life on a farm with his parents, except for two years he spent in Oregon. Mr. Burow farmed the home place for his parents and cared for them.
He later bought the farm adjoining the home place and lived there. He lived at Independence Hall in Broken Bow for 16 years.
Survivors include two nieces, Helen Becander of Sterling, Colo., and Arlene Lindholm of Valley.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry; and three sisters, Cora Kellenbarger, Doris Hannah and Eunice James.
Audra Shively
CLARKS -- Audra Shively, 31, of Clarks died Monday, April 13, 1998, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Tim Travers will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Pearl Pannier
FREMONT -- Pearl Pannier, 92, of Fremont, formerly of Clarks, died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Brian Kottas will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Fremont.
Mrs. Pannier was born on Nov. 22, 1905, in Clarks to Henry and Rose (Key) Sims. She graduated from high school in Clarks in 1923 and came to Fremont in 1925.
She married
Wilmer Pannier on July 22, 1927. They lived on farms near Fremont until Mr. Pannier died in January 1978. Mrs. Pannier moved into town and sold cream and eggs and baked and decorated cakes for many years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active in church circles and other activities. She was a member of the Riverview Extension Club and the Senior Citizens Center, where she organized the Over 60 Kids band and was involved for 11 years before moving into Arbor Manor.
Survivors include two brothers, Clarence Sims of Henderson, Nev., and Marvin Sims of Sacramento, Calif.; and one sister, Frieda Reeves of Central City.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Opal Van De Mark
MARSHALL, Texas -- Opal Delores Van De Mark, 74, of Marshall, Texas, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at a hospital in Longview, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Gebers will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Mrs. Van De Mark was born on July 28, 1923, at Maxwell to Job and Gladys (Colbank) Castor.
She married
Robert Van De Mark on Feb. 5, 1950, at Reno, Nev. Mr. Van De Mark died on June 1, 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita Ann Bray of Marshall, Texas; one son, Dennis Wayne Van De Mark of Grand Island; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Wohlman of Grand Island.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, six brothers and four sisters.
H. Warren Rice
H. Warren Rice, 71, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at the Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Gollaher Chapel in Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Heart Association.
Mr. Rice was born Jan. 18, 1927, to Harold and Elizabeth (Ivey) Rice at Palmer. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1944, and following service in the Navy, studied at Nebraska Wesleyan and the University of Denver.
He married
Dorothy Rudolf on Dec. 17, 1950.
His early career included work at both daily and weekly newspapers in Nebraska and Iowa. He published the Palmer Journal from 1955 to 1959. He managed circulation, commercial printing and production operations at the Columbus, Neb., Daily Telegram.
The couple moved to Columbus, Ohio, in 1973, where he was director of management services for the affiliate office of Printing Industries of America. From 1977 to 1988, he was a cost analyst for Buckeye Letter Service in Columbus. Following retirement from Buckeye Letter Service, the couple returned to Grand Island in 1991, and managed the Francis Villa Apartments from 1992-95.
He held the Master Printers of America administrative achievement award, and was active in printing career education. While in Ohio, he taught production management courses at Columbus Technical Institute, and was Ohio chairman of printing competition for Vocational Industrial Clubs of America.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and active in Methodist Men. He volunteered with the Literacy Council and was a member of the Saddle Club. He liked to golf and write.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Jeff Rice of Omaha; two daughters, Jeanne Bácsi of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Julie Kaltenecker of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and two sisters, Janice Johnson and Gwendolyn Schwinck, both of California.
