Dolly Markvicka
NORTH LOUP -- Dolly Markvicka, 89, of North Loup, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the North Loup United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillside cemetery at North Loup.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the North Loup Rescue Unit of the Ericson Quick Response Team.
Mrs. Markvicka was born Jan. 17, 1909, to Henry and Nellie Johansen at Hiawatha, Kansas. She was raised at Hiawatha until she was six, when the family moved to Loup City. She was educated at Loup City.
She married
Martin Markvicka on March 17, 1931. The couple lived at Loup City for about three years before they moved to a farm northeast of North Loup. Mr. Markvicka died on June 20, 1962. Mrs. Markvicka continued to live on the farm. For the last couple of years she had lived with her daughters at Ericson.
Survivors include two sons, Martin Markvicka of Grand Island and James Markvicka of Ericson; three daughters, Mary Schmeits and Janet Rush, both of Ericson and Beverly Hetfield of Cairo; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Jackson of Newberg, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, a daughter, Norma Mayhew, and an infant daughter.
Marion Sorensen
BROKEN BOW -- Marion A. Sorensen, 88, of Broken Bow, formerly of Comstock, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at the Heritage Hall nursing home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Comstock. The Rev. Samm Johnston will officiate.
Burial will be in the Douglas Grove cemetery west of Comstock. Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Comstock.
Mrs. Sorensen was born Sept. 24, 1909, to Sturley and Mabell Cleveland Stevens in Comstock. She attended school at Comstock and graduated from Comstock High School in 1928.
She worked at the bank in Comstock, the post office and was city librarian.
She married
Vernon Sorensen on Dec. 31, 1945, at Phillipsburg, Kan. She lived in Comstock her entire life until 1993 when she moved to Broken Bow. She entered Broken Bow Heritage Hall nursing home in May of 1996.
She was a member of the Comstock United Methodist Church and the Comstock American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Carole (Mrs. Joe) Johnson of Broken Bow.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; a son, James in 1975; and one sister, Hazel Brandt.
Lloyd Wyant
AURORA -- Lloyd Owen Wyant, 72, of Aurora, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9p.m. Wednesday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Wyant was born Aug. 2, 1925, to Lewis and Cora (Chaney) Wyant at O'Neill. He grew up and attended school at O'Neill and graduated from Central City High School in 1943. He served during World War II in the Army from Oct. 26, 1944, until his discharge on Dec. 1, 1946.
Following his discharge he moved to Aurora and worked as a farm hand for Haus O. Jensen.
He married
Betty Delaney on May 15, 1947, at Lincoln. The couple lived on a farm northwest of Aurora and he continued working for Jensen. The couple later moved into Aurora, and he was employed at the Aurora Co-op elevator, and also worked for Adolph Nielsen.
He was employed as a body repairman for 30 years until his retirement. After retirement, he raised calves on the Bob Asher farm. Due to his failing health the last few years, he resided at the Nebraska Veteran's Home, and since October 1996, he lived at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, a lifetime member and past commander of the Aurora VFW Post No. 4993, was a member of the Aurora American Legion Post No. 42, and held state offices in the Cooties District No. 9.
Survivors include his wife, a son; Lewis Wyant of Omaha; one sister, Elizabeth Faull of Barstow, Calif.; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert, Frank, Bill and Leon, and one sister, Laura.
Frank Dvoracek
BURBANK, Calif. -- Frank Dvoracek, 83, of Burbank, Calif., died in Burbank.
Services will be held at a later date in Burbank.
Mr. Dvoracek was born and raised in the Farwell area. In 1940 he moved to California.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta of Burbank; two sons, Frank Jr. and Joe; one daughter, Kathlene Trumbo; one sister, Mary Lager; and one brother, John Dvoracek of Farwell.

Noranna McAleer
BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Noranna McAleer, 64, a native of Aurora, and a resident of Bellevue, Wash., died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, in Maui, Hawaii.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the Sunset Hills Memorial Park.
Memorials are suggested to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Wash.; the American Cancer Society; and the Bellevue Fire Department.
Mrs. McAleer was born Oct. 30, 1933, to Wesley and Beth Huenefeld at Aurora.
She married
Vern McAleer on June 13, 1954, in Aurora. The couple lived In Hastings, before moving to Bellevue, Wash., in 1964.
She graduated from Hastings College with a teaching degree. After teaching in public schools for many years, she worked as activity director at Crossroads Retirement Center. She retired in 1985.
She enjoyed traveling, tennis, hiking, skiing, and snorkeling.
Survivors include her husband, Vern McAleer; one daughter, Sally McAleer of Springfield, Oregon; two sons, Blake McAleer and Terry McAleer, both of Redmond, Wash.; two grandchildren; her father, Wesley Huenefeld of Aurora; two sisters, Pat Laughlin and Ethel Owens; and three brothers, Art Halouska, Lynn Huenefeld and Bill Huenefeld.
Charles Arnett
Charles L. "Chick" Arnett, 77, of Grand Island, formerly of Phillips, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Arnett was born on June 6, 1920, at Giltner to Charles A. and Lela P. (Dixon) Arnett. The family moved to Phillips, where he attended school. He worked for several area farmers and also with his father on road and bridge construction.
He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 6, 1941, and served during World War II in the European Theater with the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division. He served from Normandy through the Battle of the Bulge and until the end of the war.
He married
Lois E. Cudaback on June 13, 1943, at Grand Island. He was discharged on Oct. 20, 1945. He returned to the Phillips area, where he farmed for 40 years. He retired in February 1986 due to ill health.
The couple attended the Phillips Methodist Church for several years. He was a past member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Club of Aurora. He also was a past member of Eagles Aerie 378 of Grand Island. He coached baseball in Phillips for many years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Layton Arnett and Alan Arnett, both of Phillips; one daughter, Dorothy Benton of Riverside, Calif.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Orville Arnett of Aurora; and four sisters, Dorothy Purdy of Phillips, Opal Ackerman of Jordan Valley, Ore., Eunice Debban of Kennewick, Wash., and Wilma Debban of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nick and George; and a sister, Ila.
