Bernard Augustine
Bernard J. "Jack" Augustine, 73, of Grand Island died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Augustine was born on July 2, 1924, at Omaha to Bernard and Verle (Good) Augustine. He grew up and was educated in the Omaha area.
He entered the U.S. Army on April 3, 1943, served during World War II and was discharged on Oct. 7, 1945.
He married
Louella Ann Piper on Feb. 12, 1989, at Las Vegas. The couple lived in Grand Island, where he worked as a pipe insulator for an Omaha union.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Platt-Duetsche Society, Eagles Club and Florence No. 281 Master Masons. He was a member of International Asbestos Workers Local 39 in Omaha for 43 years.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Jason Wallin of Omaha; three daughters, Janice Bickel of Phoenix and Jackie Mabe and Lisa Forbes, both of Omaha; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Vernelle Dalton of San Jose, Calif., Bernice Crofton of Anticoch, Calif., and Jeri Swanson of Omaha.
Delma Craven
Delma R. Craven, 79, of Lakeview Health and Rehab Center died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Home Health Care.
Mrs. Craven was born on Feb. 25, 1919, at Chester to Benjamin and Olive (Vance) Moxham. She grew up and was educated in Belleville, Kan. She moved to Grand Island in the fall of 1936.
She married
Alvey B. Craven on Nov. 21, 1936, at Columbus. They lived in Grand Island through most of their marriage. Mr. Craven died on Oct. 9, 1991.
Mrs. Craven was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping and boating.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Hurst of Topeka, Kan.; and one granddaughter.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter and five brothers and sisters.
Christopher Eckhart
Christopher "Chuck" Eckhart, 18, of 1507 S. Sylvan died of cancer on Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Rademacher officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
John McCurdy
John L. McCurdy, 76, of Grand Island died Monday, March 2, 1998, at St. Francis Skilled Care Unit.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Arborville cemetery in Polk.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Robert Knight
HASTINGS -- Robert G. Knight, 71, of Hastings died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Hastings. The Rev. Karl E. Marsh will officiate. Burial will be in All Soul's Chapel of Saint Mark's Pro-Cathedral.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice or to the Hastings Masonic Endowment Fund.
Mr. Knight was born on Jan. 11, 1927, in Cedar Bluffs to Laurendus and Florence (Paradice) Knight. He graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1944.
He served in the U.S. Air Corps from 1944 to 1946.
He married
Jacqueline Lamberty on May 26, 1946. He graduated from LaSalle Court Reporting College at Omaha in 1948.
He and his wife moved to Hastings in 1949. He was appointed official court reporter for the 10th Judicial District in September 1949. He retired from that position in 1993.
Mr. Knight served as municipal police judge and justice of the peace in the 1970s. He founded Nebraska Reporters Service Inc. in 1983 and was operating the business at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Tehama Temple and served as potentate in 1977. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 317, Jesters 512, Scottish Rite, American Legion, NSRA Association and NCRA.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Suzanne Farris of Hastings and Nancy Vanasche of Albany, Ore.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Fred Knight of Tustin, Calif., and Ray Knight of San Berdina, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
'Ted' Price
BROKEN BOW -- Theodore R. "Ted" Price, 93, of Broken Bow died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at a rest home in Broken Bow.
Services were on Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Charles Gregory officiating. Burial was in the Ansley Cemetery.
Mr. Price was born on Feb. 28, 1904, in York County to William and Sarah Jane (George) Price. He attended school at Ansley.
He married
Iva Crosley on July 22, 1928, at Cozad. They lived in Ansley until moving to Ohio in 1939. He owned and operated a feed mill in Ohio.
He served in the military during World War II.
He retired in 1969, and they moved from Ohio to Broken Bow.
Mr. Price was a member of the First Baptist Church in Broken Bow and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, Tom Price of Ogallala; and a sister, Hazel Stucker of Broken Bow.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Mary Rose
GIBBON -- Mary C. Rose, 74, of Gibbon died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. John Hooge will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Hospice Program.
