Lorraine Schroeder
KENESAW -- Lorraine May Schroeder, 88, of the Haven Home in Kenesaw died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at the Haven Home.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to the Haven Home.
Mrs. Schroeder was born on Nov. 11, 1909, in Grand Island to Lee and Ann (Pepper) Anthoney. She grew up and was educated at Grand Island.
She married
George Schroeder on Nov. 24, 1934. Mr. Schroeder died on May 9, 1974. Mrs. Schroeder had lived at the Haven Home since 1984.
Survivors include cousins.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Auhl; and a brother, Lamoine Anthoney.
Paul Lipps
HAY SPRINGS -- Paul Lipps, 79, of Hay Springs died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hay Springs. The Rev. Mark Hass will officiate. Burial will be in the Hay Springs Cemetery.
Chamberlain-Drabbels Mortuary of Hay Springs is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established.
Survivors include three sons, John of St. Libory and Arthur and Walter, both of Hay Springs; two daughters, Lou Eva Jennings of Grand Island and Arlene (Mrs. Rick) Lahaye of Hay Springs; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Loren and Wayne, both of Tekamah, and Roy of Fort Myers, Fla.; and a special friend, Lucille Kyser of Hay Springs.
John McCurdy
John L. McCurdy, 76, of Grand Island died Monday, March 2, 1998, at St. Francis Skilled Care Unit.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. Dr. Jim Harmon and the Rev. Richard Bacon will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Arborville cemetery in Polk.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. McCurdy was born on May 19, 1921, at Coon Rapids, Iowa, to Arthur and Ellen (Williams) McCurdy. He graduated from high school at Guthrie Center, Iowa, and from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
He married
Virginia Sawyer on July 14, 1943, in Estherville, Iowa. He was ordained to the Christian ministry in 1950 and served churches in Nebraska and Iowa. He lived in Hastings from 1960 to 1965. He was a scout executive for Boy Scouts of America from 1956 to 1972. He worked at several jobs from 1972 until retiring in 1984 and was minister of Arborville Church at Polk from 1974 to 1984.
He was a member of Midwest No. 317, Hastings Lodge A.F. & A.M. and Hastings Consistory. He earned his 50-year Masonic pin in 1996 and became an admiral in the Nebraska Navy in 1997. He was also active in the American Association of Retired Persons. He held many offices in state and local churches.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles and word-find games, and he and his wife loved to travel.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Dr. Fred McCurdy of Omaha; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; four brothers, Wilson McCurdy and Harold McCurdy, both of Ponora, Iowa, Gerald McCurdy of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Gary McCurdy of Washington, Iowa; and three sisters, Helen Purviance and Georgia (Mrs. Jack) Davis, both of Jefferson, Iowa, and Donna (Mrs. Thurlow) Forseman of Montieth, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Louis.
Marie Higle
FULLERTON -- Marie Higle, 79, of Fullerton died Monday, March 2, 1998, at Community Care of America in Palmer.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Higle was born on April 1, 1918, at Boone County to Henry and Agusta (Henz) Hobbs. She moved with her family at an early age to Fullerton and attended schools there.
She married
Howard Higle on June 10, 1947, at Fullerton. They lived in Fullerton, where she was a homemaker. Mr. Higle died on Aug. 12, 1984. Mrs. Higle had lived at Community Care of America in Palmer for the past year.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include one niece, Gloria Prowett of Cushing; and one nephew, Larry Hobbs of Grand Island.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Everett.
Anna Oswald
AURORA -- Anna Marie Oswald, 91, of Aurora died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Hamilton Manor.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. The Revs. Barry McCormick and Aaron Juett will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Oswald was born on Dec. 1, 1906, at Roanoke, Ill., to David and Fannie (Springer) Bachman. She spent her early years at Roanoke, where she attended country school. As a young woman, she came to Nebraska to live with relatives and help with their families.
She married
Albert Oswald on Sept. 9, 1930, at Washington, Ill. They farmed southwest of Aurora until moving into Aurora in 1972. She moved to Hamilton Manor in February 1998.
She was active at Pleasant View Bible Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years and in the women's group. She was also involved in work for ARC. She was an avid flower gardener.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, David and Louis "Buzz" Oswald of Aurora; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ada Smithson of Loogootee, Ill.
He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter; four brothers, Rudy, Ralph and Albert Bachman and an infant brother; and two sisters, Frances Heinhold and Wilma Beer.
David McCain
O'NEILL -- David McCain, 49, of O'Neill died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill. President Kevin Plugge will officiate. Burial will be in the O'Neill Cemetery. Military graveside services will be by O'Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. McCain was born on Sept. 20, 1948, at Spalding to Edd and Leola (Bentley) McCain.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969. He attended Hastings Technical College.
He married
Barbara Moore on April 14, 1970, at Grand Island. He owned and operated McCain Communications for 20 years in O'Neill, selling and servicing two-way radios and cellular phones.
He was a member of O'Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Timothy of Greeley, Colo., Michael of Grand Island and Adam of Lincoln; two daughters, Tina Moss of O'Neill and Deborah (Mrs. Michael) Welsh of Atkinson; five grandchildren; his parents, of Burwell; two sisters, Cheryl Conner of Rose and Kimberly Wagner of Burwell; and four brothers, Eddie of Scottsbluff, Rocky of Salt Lake City, Lennie of Arizona and Lannie of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by one grandson.
