James Laughrey
ST. PAUL -- James P. Laughrey, 79, of St. Paul died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home. Ellen Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul with military rites by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post No. 119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Laughrey was born March 2, 1919, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Walker and Bertha (Cox) Laughrey. He attended school in Missouri Valley and graduated there. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945.
He married
Jane Skinner on May 11, 1943, in Abilene, Texas. The couple moved to St. Paul in 1953. They owned and operated the Coast to Coast Store for 12 years. In 1963, they purchased the St. Paul Bakery and operated it for 10 years. Following the sale of the bakery, in 1973, they owned the Dan Dee Drive Inn in Dannebrog. Mr. Laughrey retired in 1985.
His hobbies were woodworking, hunting and fishing. He was past president of the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post No. 119 for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mary Jane (Mrs. Robert) Lamberson of Dannebrog, Carolyn (Mrs. Larry) McClure of Schuyler, Jeri Lynn (Mrs. Eric) Mason of Kansas City, Mo., Yvonne Jackson of Grand Island, and Shannon (Mrs. Lowell) Dudzinski of Ankeny, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Sterling of Reseda, Calif.; and a sister, Marion Heggemann of Los Gatos, Calif.
'Jiggs' Senn
BARTLETT -- Arthur J. "Jiggs" Senn, 47, of Bartlett died Friday, April 10, 1998, in Tilden, Neb.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the new gym in Bartlett. The Rev. Cindy Altstadt will officiate. Burial will be in the Bartlett Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Huffman's Brooks Chapel in Elgin and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the gym.
Mr. Senn was born Nov. 5, 1950, in Burwell to Arthur and Eleanor (DeGroff) Senn. He attended public school in Bartlett and graduated from Wheeler Central High School in 1968.
He and a brother operated the family ranch after his father's death in 1964.
He owned and operated Jiggs' Bar in Bartlett from 1988 to 1996.
He was president of the Bartlett Lions Club at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Bartlett Volunteer Fire Department, was a 4-H leader, a softball organizer and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his mother of rural Ericson; a brother, John of Ivorton, Conn.; and two sisters, Norma Robinson of Ericson and Naomi Huck of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry.
Frank Swoboda
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MICH. -- Frank A. Swoboda, 61, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and formerly of Omaha and Grand Island, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Hugo of the Hills Church at Bloomfield, Mich. The Rev. Duane Doherty will officiate.
Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services.
Mr. Swoboda was born on July 19, 1936, in Omaha. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Grand Island.
He graduated from Marquette University at Milwaukee, Wis., with an electrical engineering degree.
He married
Dolly Fazekas on June 2, 1959, at Bloomfield Hills.
His first wife, Rene DuCharme, died in 1978.
He worked as engineering manager at General Motors Truck Group and had been with the company for 36 years.
He recently moved to Troy, Mich., after living in Bloomfield Hills for 12 years.
Prior to that he lived in Birmingham, Mich. for 15 years.
He was a member of St. Hugo of the Hills Church at Bloomfield Hills and the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Survivors include his wife of Troy, Mich.; two daughters, Janet Swoboda Pasco of Beverly Hills, Mich., and Susan Peters of Shelby, Mich.; four sons, David Swoboda of Seabrook, Texas, Paul Swoboda of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Scott Stevens and Robert Stevens, both of Oakland, Calif.; three sisters, Alice Hackley and Mary Jo Petrulis, both of Omaha, and Pat O'Malley of Grand Island; one brother, Charles Swoboda of Libertyville, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
Robert Korte
Robert Korte, 55, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, in Santa Rosa, N.M.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans. The Rev. Gerald Vap will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Orleans.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans.
A memorial fund has been established in his memory.
Mr. Korte was born on Oct. 26, 1942, at Orleans to Bernard Frank and Eleanor Irene (Kresser) Korte. He attended school in Orleans and graduated from Orleans High School in 1961. He served a short tour in the U.S. Navy.
He married
Teri Loper of Oxford in June 1967.
He married
Jennifer Leininger of Sutton in February 1972. He drove a truck in Hastings for several years. He moved to Grand Island, where he worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator. At the time of his death, he was temporarily assigned to a job site in Vaughn, N.M.
Survivors include a son, Michael Korte of Grand Island; a daughter, Michelle Korte of Hastings; one granddaughter; his parents; four brothers, Gary Korte of Oxford, Alan Korte of Ashby, Minn., Dwayne Korte of Fullerton and Dave Korte of McCook; and four sisters, Pat (Mrs. George) Miller of Lincoln, Betty (Mrs. Dave) Eyre of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., Kathy (Mrs. Dennis) Platt of Bastrop, Texas, and Barbara (Mrs. Burton) Thompson of Holdrege.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dorothy.
Howard Allen
WOLBACH -- Howard E. Allen, 70, of Wolbach died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Visitation in O'Connor. The Rev. Robert Chamberlain will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery in Wolbach with military honors at the gravesite.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Sunday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the Selma B. Allen Scholarship Fund for Wolbach High School.
Mr. Allen was born on April 23, 1927, at Brayton to Ervin and Selma (Koch) Allen. He grew up at Wolbach and graduated from Wolbach High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1946 to June 1949.
He married
Elizabeth Ann Carraher on Aug. 17, 1950, at Spalding. The couple lived in Wolbach, Arnold and Cheyenne, Wyo. He worked for Porter Trucking, Wayne DeVoss Construction, Smith Construction, Missouri Valley Construction and Morrison Knudson Construction. He drove a truck for Consolidated Freightways.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wolbach and Ray Mapes American Legion Post 236 of Wolbach.
Survivors include his wife; eight sons, Michael and Alan, both of Lincoln, Robert, James and Paul, all of Grand Island, Timothy of Sioux Falls, S.D., Benjamin of Rushville and Daniel of Cheyenne, Wyo.; five daughters, Linda (Mrs. Gregg) Wibbles of Central City, Patricia (Mrs. Britt) Harris of Greeley, Christine (Mrs. Eugene) Andre of Arnold, Mary (Mrs. Michael) Bakhit of Eagle and Amy Allen of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 27 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim of Salina, Kan.; and five sisters, Minnie Nagorski, Ellamae (Mrs. Darold) Townsend and Marjorie (Mrs. Warren) Townsend, all of St. Paul, Francis (Mrs. John) Berney of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jean Clark of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Paula Eppenbach; and two brothers, Donald and Edward.
Stephen Streck
ALDA -- Stephen J. Streck, 43, of Alda, formerly of Hastings, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Fred Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include his wife, Tina; a son, Adam Streck of Alda; a stepdaughter, Ashley Perrel of Alda; his parents, Wilbert and Shirley Streck of Hastings; and a sister, Karla (Mrs. Monte Jr.) Malouf of Hastings.
Ivan Haussermann
FRANKLIN -- Ivan Alvin Haussermann, 80, of Franklin died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hutchins Funeral Chapel in Franklin. The Rev. R.L. Malchow will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery in Bloomington.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Haussermann was born on Feb. 2, 1918, on a farm northwest of Bloomington to Henry and Helen (Rebman) Haussermann. He attended rural school near Bloomington.
He married
Ruby McDougal on June 10, 1941, in Bloomington. They lived on a farm west of Bloomington until retiring and moving to Franklin in 1980.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bloomington.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne Haussermann of Hastings and Daryl Haussermann of Kearney; two daughters, Carol Haussermann of Lexington and Leona (Mrs. Lee) Poole of Grand Island; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a twin brother, Alvin Haussermann of Franklin and another brother, Ray Haussermann of Franklin.
His wife died on April 11, 1995. He also was preceded in death by one daughter and two grandchildren.
