Forest Woods
BROKEN BOW -- Forest Henry Woods, 83, of Broken Bow died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gates Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Hoeft will officiate.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mr. Woods was born on June 6, 1914, in York County to William Harrison and Amanda (Rich) Woods. He grew up in York County and graduated from McCool High School in 1932.
After graduation, he moved to Custer County.
He married
Leona Holoch on July 25, 1936. The spent their married
life farming and also ran a small business in Broken Bow.
Mr. Woods was a member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Donald Woods of Hastings; one daughter, Karen (Mrs. Phillip) Spanel of Mountain Home, Ark.; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Vearl Woods of San Benito, Texas; and three sisters, LaVurn Leithoff of Newton, Kan., and Evelyn Tinkham and Shirley DeBusk, both of Sargent.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Howard.
Mary Kay Johnson
LINCOLN -- Mary Kay Johnson, 48, of Lincoln died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at her home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood cemetery in York.
Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Shriner's Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., or to the First Presbyterian Church in York.
She was born on Dec. 13, 1949, at Fargo, N.D., to Elmer and Shirley (Keil) Johnson.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in York.
Survivors include her father, of York; and two sisters, Marlene Gates of Bothell, Wash., and Marcia Boysen of Grand Island
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Matthew Brach
WALKERSVILLE, Md. -- Matthew Francis Brach, 76, of Walkersville, Md., formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at his home.
Private services for the family will be held. Stauffer Funeral Homes of Frederick, Md., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Walkersville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Brach was born on Dec. 11, 1921, in Warren, Pa., to Joseph and Mary (Wienchawisk) Brach.
He married
Lou Ann Rogers. While living in Grand Island, he was a real estate appraiser.
He was a member of the Walkersville United Methodist Church and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife; three stepsons, Bruce J. Snyder of Lincoln, Neil P. Snyder of Frederick, Md., and Mark Snyder of Walkersville, Md.; one stepdaughter, Sue Snyder of Mount Kisco, N.Y.; three step grandchildren; and one sister, Irene (Mrs. Frank) Natalie of Port Charlotte, Fla.
Harold Christensen
Harold W. Christensen, 69, of Grand Island died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Elk Township cemetery at Linn Grove, Iowa. Memorial services will follow at approximately 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa. The Rev. Henry Kuhn will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran High School Association or St. Francis Hospice Care.
Mr. Christensen was born on Jan. 1, 1929, at Linn Grove, Iowa, to Walter and Lena (Hensel) Christensen. He grew up at Buena Vista County, Iowa, and attended Buena Vista College.
He married
Lydia Glienke in 1950 at Hanover, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Hanover area until 1958. He then worked for the Iowa Highway Commission in Denison. They moved to Grand Island in 1968. He worked as a civil engineer for the city for 15 years and then worked as an associate of Brady Engineering.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Hall County Sheriff's Posse, Grand Island Engineers Club, Grand Island Saddle Club, American Public Works Association, Platt-Duetsche Society, Liederkranz and Wally Byam Air Stream Club.
His interests included showing horses, fishing and researching his family genealogy, culminating in a trip to Denmark in 1996.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Christensen of Alta, Iowa, and Kevin Christensen of Kearney; two daughters, Rebecca (Mrs. George) McLean of Lincoln and Sherri (Mrs. Marty) Martinez of Ames, Iowa; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one brother, Willard Christensen of Storm Lake, Iowa; and two sisters, Irene Wooster of Enterprise, Kan., and Elma Hansen of Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Glenn Allington
FULLERTON -- Glenn Allington, 94, of Fullerton died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Donald E. King
CENTRAL CITY -- Donald Earl King, 64, of Central City died on Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Lance Shafer officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. King was born on June 4, 1933, in Hamilton County to Ralph W. and Inez M. (Farlee) King. He attended rural Merrick County schools. He worked at Larson Chevrolet in Central City and operated his own lawn service until 1969.
He went to work in 1970 as the evening custodian for Central City High School for a short time and then was the elementary school custodian until his death.
King was a member of the First Christian Church in Central City.
He is survived by one brother, Dale King of Central City; and one sister, Darlene (Mrs. Dennis) Richards of Loup City.
Ruth McKinney
PALMER -- Ruth McKinney, 99, of Palmer died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at Community Care of America in Palmer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home. The Rev. Terry Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Grace Murphy
FULLERTON -- Grace Murphy, 89, of Fullerton died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Richard Whiteing will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with a vigil and rosary service at 7 p.m., Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
