She died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Colonial Haven in Beemer.

PETERSBURG - Services for Ernest J. Velder, 94, Petersburg, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church here with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery at Raeville. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Thursday at Huffman’s Brooks Chapel in Elgin and after 7 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake.
He died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at Neligh Nursing Center.
Phyllis Wamberg
WAUSA - Services for Phyllis E. Wamberg, 77, of Wausa will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tabor Lutheran Church in Wausa with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Brockhaus Funeral Home of Wausa is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wamberg died Tuesday, July 3, 2006, at Wausa Health Care Center.

Floyd Wichman
RANDOLPH - Services for Floyd W. Wichman, 75, of Randolph will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Randolph with burial in the Randolph City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Home for Funerals of Norfolk is in charge.
Mr. Wichman died July 4, 2006, at Colonial Manor of Randolph.
Floyd was born on April 11, 1931, at Battle Creek, the son of Walter and Ella Mae (Brunswig) Wichman. He was baptized on April 26, 1931, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. He was confirmed on April 15, 1945, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church south of Battle Creek.
Floyd work for Nash-Finch from 1949 to 1951 when he entered the U.S. Army on March 20, 1951. He received his honorable discharge on March 19, 1954. Floyd re-entered the Army on Sept. 25, 1956, and served until Sept. 28, 1957.
He returned to work for Nash-Finch in 1960 and continued until 1976.
On Oct. 24, 1969, Floyd married Betty McDonald at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Randolph. The couple made their home in Norfolk until 1977 when they moved to Randolph. Floyd worked for Randolph Farm Equipment from 1977 until his retirement in 2004.
Floyd is survived by his children, Ed Wichman of Randolph, Elizabeth Vigil of Eagle Point, Ore., Cindy Wichman and her friend, Bob Werner of Norfolk, Sheila Wichman of Broken Bow, Jeff Wichman and his friend, Barb Inness of Chapman and Steve Wichman and his fiancee, Cathy of Randolph, and by 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty on March 3, 1990, and two brothers, Richard and Loyd (Bud).
The Revs. Howard Mohlke and Randy Bader will officiate.
Darrel Zeisler
EMERSON - Darrel R. Zeisler, 89, of Emerson died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson.
Verne Wagner
Services for Verne K. Wagner, 88, Norfolk, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peace United Church of Christ with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Home for Funerals.
She died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare.
Harold Smith
Memorial services for Harold “Smitty” Smith, 87, Norfolk, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Is King Community Church in Norfolk with inurnment and military rites at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Home for Funerals is in charge.
He died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at Norfolk.
Harold was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Arnold to Wirt and Edith Smith.
He married Annabelle Scott on Nov. 27, 1937.
Harold was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines and Japan. The couple owned and operated the Marian Coffee Shop in Valentine for 19 years until the hotel was destroyed by fire in 1969. They moved to Denver in the early 1970s and worked for La Quinta Inns for 15 years as motel managers and inspectors. After they retired to Texas for a few years, they moved to Norfolk in 1993. He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by three sons, Dr. Robert Smith and wife Jeanne of Norfolk, Richard and wife Evelyn of Canon City, Colo., and David and wife Dee of Spokane Valley, Wash., and eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Annabelle “Scotty” Smith in January of 1999.

Duane Booth
CREIGHTON - Memorial services for Duane F. Booth, 70, of Creighton will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Creighton with private family inurnment services at a later date. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.
Mr. Booth died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services following a long battle with cancer.
Duane Forrest Booth was born at O’Neill on Sept. 16, 1935. His parents were Clarance “Red” and Nellie Irene (Smith) Booth. He attended grade school and graduated from high school at O’Neill, excelling in music, football, basketball and track. He played with several dance bands and the Bassett City Band. He delivered freight for Booth Transportation Service.
Duane earned a bachelor’s degree in music education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master’s degree in music at the same university. While attending college, he taught vocal and instrument music part time at Firth, taught private lessons at Dietz Music House in Lincoln and played with the Lincoln Symphonic Bands and the University Singers.
In 1956, he married Janet Hull at the United Methodist Church in O’Neill, moving to Creighton following college graduation. He taught both vocal and instrumental music for seven years and an additional 30 years instrumental, all at Creighton.
During his teaching career, Duane touched thousands of lives - young and old - and took the music program to the height of excellence, playing music on a college level and teaching much more than just music.
Duane served in offices of Nebraska Music Educators, including two terms on the State Auditions Committee. He was on the Music Advisory Board of the Nebraska School Activities Association for a number of years. He served in mentoring programs and was a life member of Nebraska State Education Association, National Education Association, Nebraska Band Masters Association and following retirement was inducted into the Nebraska Music Education Hall of Fame.
He and his wife Janet loved to travel and visited every state in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Caribbean, Alaska, Canada and 12 countries in Europe. He never saw a travel brochure he didn’t like.
Duane loved to hunt and fish, especially ice fishing, and received many Master Angler awards for walleye and sauger. He loved the rabbits, squirrels and birds that came for food and water in the backyard, keeping snow scooped to and around the feeders and a heated bird bath in the winter in all kinds of weather.
Duane was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife; children, Lori and husband Scott Heaton of Ponca, Sue and husband Rick Buss of Lincoln; sister, Judy and husband Doug Dankert of Chambers; brother, Jim of O’Neill; sister-in-law, Lois Simandiras of O’Neill; mother-in-law, Grace Hull of O’Neill; three grandchildren, Hillary, Brittany and Zachary Heaton; and many nieces and nephews.

Harriett Hagstrom
DIXON - Services for Harriett Hagstrom, 73, Allen, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church at Dixon with burial in the Laurel City Cemetery. Visitation will start at 5 p.m. Friday at the church with a rosary at 7 p.m. under the direction of Thompson Chapel of Wakefield.
She died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at her home.
Conrad Kaup
CROFTON - Conrad J. Kaup, 90, formerly of Crofton, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with burial at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. and a vigil at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Wintz Funeral Home of Crofton is in charge of arrangements.
Conrad John Kaup was born on May 27, 1916, in West Point to Conrad and Justina (Stratman) Kaup. He lived in West Point until approximately age 14 when he went to seminary school in Calvary, Wis.
Conrad was ordained a Roman Catholic priest and served many parishes in Nebraska for over 35 years. He was formerly the boys head basketball coach at Cedar Catholic while in Hartington and also coached baseball.
Conrad married Della Marie Guenther on Aug. 11, 1977, in Denver, Colo. He and Della lived in Grand Island from 1982-2002. They moved to Crofton in 2002 after Della was diagnosed with cancer. Della died on Feb. 21, 2006, at her residence in Crofton at the age of 71 years.
Conrad was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was very active in the church as a lector and was formerly active with Grand Island Central Catholic High School while living there. He always took great pride in his lawn and the flowers around his house.
Conrad is survived by one son and spouse, Barry and Heather Kaup of Littleton, Colo.; one brother, Bill and wife Rita Kaup of West Point; two sisters, Justina Kronke of Dodge and Ann Parr of Oakland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Della; four brothers, Henry, Alex, Joe and John Kaup; three sisters, Catherine Langhorst, Theresa Langhorst and Elizabeth Deppe.
The Rev. Joseph Broudou will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kevin Kaup, Robert Parr, Tim Kaup, Joe Kaup, Bob Hegge and Larry Leader. Honorary pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Roland Behr
Services for Roland O. Behr, 84, Kerrville, Texas, were Tuesday at Grimes Funeral Home in Kerrville. The former Norfolk resident died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at his home.
