Lucy Coffman
BROKEN BOW -- Lucy Coffman, 88, of Broken Bow, formerly of Ansley, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary, with Stanley Morrison and Leigh Bledsoe officiating. Burial will be in the Ansley Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers.
Mrs. Coffman was born June 16, 1909, in Sedro Woolley, Wash., to Nelson and Ida Mae (Mason) Trew. When she was still young, she moved with her family to the Cumro community. She attended rural schools and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1929.
She married
Tom Fortik. The couple had two sons, Terry and Danny. She later married
Lloyd Coffman in 1948 at the "Little Brown Church in the Vail" in Nashua, Iowa.
The Coffmans had two children, Lois and Dick. The couple spent most of their married
life in Custer County. Mr. and Mrs. Coffman moved to Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow in 1993. Mr. Coffman died on June 30, 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Stitt of Marble Hill, Mo.; three sons, Dick Coffman of Hinton, Iowa, Terry Fortik of Ogallala and Danny Fortik of Broken Bow; a sister, Mary Hinkle of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and three great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers Leland, Garland and Chester, and a sister, Lula Watts.
Letha Gibson
ST. PAUL -- Letha V. Gibson, 85, of St. Paul died Sunday, April 5, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital.
Services are pending at the Jacobsen Funeral Home at St. Paul.
Clara Harmon
LOUP CITY -- Clara E. Harmon, 89, of Loup City died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Loup City. The Rev. Heidi Revelo will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be an hour before the services at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
Peters Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Harmon was born Aug. 7, 1908, in Gretna to William S. and Nannie Jane (Muncy) Bundy. She attended County School District 39 through the eighth grade and graduated from Ashland High School in 1926.
She married
Luther H. Harmon on Feb. 23, 1927, at Gretna.
The couple farmed near Greenwood until 1946, when they moved to a farm near Gretna. In 1950, they moved to a ranch near Loup City. They retired in 1976, they retired and moved into Loup City.
Mr. Harmon died in June 1986. Mrs. Harmon continued to live in Loup City.
She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She was active in the United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle, Guild and the Shermanette Garden Club. She also was involved in the Loup City Senior Center activities.
Survivors include a daughter, Jerris (Mrs. Jerry) Palmer of Tekamah; two sons, Jim Harmon of Grand Island and Ray Harmon of Nickerson; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Bundy of Ashland; and a sister, Erma Phelan of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Richard Harmon; two brothers, Herbert and Eugene Bundy; and three sisters, Ethel Dryer, Glessie Short and Lillian Hoke.
Virgil Modelski
BELGRADE -- Virgil P. Modelski, 62, of Belgrade died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Krakow, with the Rev. Robert Nienaber officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service at the Anson Funeral Home in Genoa. Memorials can be made to the donor's choice.
Mr. Modelski was born April 16, 1935, in St. Edward to John and Victoria (Siedlyk) Modelski. He attended St. Edward country school, then moved to a farm near Genoa in 1942, where he attended Genoa High School.
He moved to a farm north of Fullerton in 1949. Mr. Modelski entered the U.S. Army in 1958 and served until 1960.
He was a farmer most of his life and also worked at the Reece Wooden Sole Shoe Co. in Columbus for many years.
Survivors include a sister, Stella Cruise of Norfolk; and three brothers, John of Columbus, Leo of Grand Island and Stanley of St. Edward.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eddie and Mike; and four sisters, Minnie, Dorothy, Helen and an infant sister.
Steven Wozny
COLUMBUS -- Steven E. Wozny, 31, of Columbus died Friday, April 3, 1998, at his home in Columbus.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Dan Keller will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus, with a vigil at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Visitation will continue from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.
Mr. Wozny was born March 25, 1967, in Fullerton to David and Kathleen (Coble) Wozny. He attended grade school in Belgrade and high school in Cedar Rapids and Orchard.
He married
Connie Kassmeier on July 12, 1997, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler. He lived in Columbus, where he worked at Magna-Lomason and part-time at Weld-A-Matic. He enjoyed motorcycle riding.
Survivors include his wife, Connie of Columbus; his parents, David Wozny of Cameron, Wis., and Kathleen Schrage of Orchard; twin sons, Brandon and Kienon Dietrich of Columbus; a stepson, Jordan Lauterbach of Columbus; twin sons Logan and Josy Richards of Columbus; two sisters, Susan Ligenza of Columbus and Kay Nelson of O'Neill; a brother, Bruce Wozny of Cedar Rapids; and a grandmother, Francis Wozny of Fullerton.
Shirley Cox
BROKEN BOW -- Shirley L. Cox, 72, of Broken Bow, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at the Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church at Mason City. The Rev. Victor Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in the Mason City cemetery .
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary at Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Mason City.
Mrs. Cox was born May 5, 1925, to Glen and Edith (Smith) Burns in the Clear Creek Community Center near Mason City. She attended rural grade schools and graduated from Mason City High School in 1942. After high school, she attended Kearney Teachers College and then taught for six years at various schools.
She married
Orval Cox in 1949 in Mason City.
After her husband's death in 1959, she continued to live in Mason City and worked at the Farmers Store. In later years, she went to work for Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow. She retired in 1987 and entered Sandhills Manor Nursing Home.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mason City, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed baking pies, gardening and sewing.
Survivors include one daughter, Dixie (Mrs. John) De Tuerk of Ogallala; one son, Roger Cox of Alma; four grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Nelson of Broken Bow, and one brother, Robert "Jeff" Burns of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daugter, Diane Cox, and one brother, Joel "Ike" Burns.
