Ronald Bopp
SPALDING -- Ronald M. Bopp, 65, of Spalding died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at Friendship Villa in Spalding after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Spalding. Burial will be in Dublin cemetery at Primrose.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with a prayer service and rosary at 7 p.m., Friday at Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
Mr. Bopp was born on Jan. 25, 1933, in Primrose to Donald and Irene (Whitman) Bopp. The Bopp family moved to Spalding in 1942 when they purchased the Enterprise newspaper. Mr. Bopp graduated from Spalding Public School in 1951.
He married
Mildred Mackie on Feb. 7, 1952.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 28, 1952, and was stationed in Jacksonville, Fla. He served four years in the Navy and traveled to Iceland, Newfoundland and Greenland and served in the Korean War.
After the service, he worked for the Lexington Clipper and the Ord Quiz.
He purchased the Cedar Rapids Press in December 1957. A short while later, he and his father decided to publish the Spalding and Cedar Rapids newspapers out of the Spalding plant. After his father's death in 1968, Mr. Bopp continued to operate the Spalding Enterprise and the Cedar Rapids Press until 1997, when ill health forced his retirement.
Survivors include his sister, Eleanor Kasselder of Ericson; three sons, John of Grand Island and Dave and Denny, both of Spalding; four daughters, Colleen Kasperbauer of St. Paul, Betty Swertzic of Clarks, Susan Bopp of Columbus and Paula Bader of St. Edward; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Frieda Kreutzer
KEARNEY -- Frieda M. Kreutzer, 94, formerly of Amherst, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney, where she had lived for four years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst. The Rev. Kurt Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel cemetery northwest of Amherst.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. Further visitation will be prior to services Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church, the Mother Hull Home or the Amherst Fire Department.
Mrs. Kreutzer was born on Sept. 30, 1903, near Amherst to Fred and Annie (John) Trampe. She grew up in that area and attended District 45 School north of Amherst.
She married
Amo W. Kreutzer on May 20, 1926, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Amherst. They farmed north of Amherst, where she lived until moving to the Mother Hull Home.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst and the Ladies Aid.
Survivors include one son, Howard Kreutzer of Amherst; seven grandsons; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Her husband died on July 1, 1985. She also was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Ethel J. Miller
GIBBON -- Ethel J. Miller, 91, of Gibbon died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at St. Luke's Center in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith United Church in Gibbon with the Revs. Mark Cadenbach and Dean Pofhal officiating. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Gibbon Emergency Unit.
Mrs. Miller was born on Aug. 21, 1906, near Gibbon to William M. and Mary E. (Lockwood) Brown. She grew up and attended school in the Gibbon area.
She married
James Ivan Miller on March 12, 1923, in Kearney. They lived in the Gibbon and Kearney area, where they farmed.
She received training as a nurse's aide and worked at St. Luke's Center in Kearney and at the Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.
She was a member of Faith United Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge, all of Gibbon.
Survivors include three daughters, Janet M. Keller of Casa Grande, Ariz., Marilyn L. Sheldon and Dorothy E. Rayburn, both of Kearney; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Donald; one granddaughter; five brothers; and four sisters.
Mary Neben
OCONTO -- Mary Neben, 71, of Oconto died Monday, March 30, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Buffalo First Lutheran Church north of Lexington. The Rev. Edwin Cook will officiate. Burial will be in the Buffalo Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
A memorial has been established.
Mrs. Neben was born on Aug. 10, 1926, on Sunny Slope Ranch south of Broken Bow to James Wesley and Evelyn (Clay) McCaslin.
She attended school at Dry Valley and stayed at her Grandma Clay's during the week. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1944 and attended Kearney Teachers College. While teaching there, she lived with her Uncle Mac and Aunt Dorothy Struempler.
She married
Rudolf Neben on June 3, 1951, in Broken Bow. They lived in the Buffalo community for 21 years. They moved in 1972 from the farm to Oconto, where they owned and operated Neben's Department and Feed Store.
Mrs. Neben was an active member of Buffalo LWML and Legion Auxiliary 250 of Oconto. She was also director of the Oconto Senior Center until her death. She enjoyed reading, quilting and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Linnea (Mrs. Dick) Eggleston of Stapleton and Glenda Neben of Kearney; two sons, Galen Neben of Seneca and Kendall Neben of Stapleton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her father, of Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow; four brothers, Daniel McCaslin of Broken Bow, Curtis McCaslin of Hershey, Cliff McCaslin of Merna and Daryl McCaslin of North Platte; and five sisters, Audrey (Mrs. Hap) Jones of Thedford, Ardis Goodner of Broken Bow, Cleo Purdum of Reed Point, Mont., Beverly (Mrs. Jim) Goehring of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Leata (Mrs. Boyd) Krejci of Eustis.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, her mother and one brother, Edward.
Wayne Ostrom
KEARNEY -- Wayne K. Ostrom, 75, of Kearney died Tuesday, March 31, 1998.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Rev. David deFreese will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church's building fund, Eagles Aerie 2722 building fund or the Senior Citizens Hospitality Center.
Mr. Ostrom was born on Jan. 27, 1923, in Stockville to Daniel and Ella (Bullington) Ostrom.
He married
Annabelle Breach on July 29, 1943. She preceded him in death.
He married
Patricia "Pat" Russell Welsh on Sept. 8, 1990.
He was assistant superintendent for Allied Mills in Cozad and later was superintendent for Continental Grains in Elm Creek. He was a bus driver for Elm Creek and Kearney public schools and recently had worked as a van driver for Mid-Nebraska Mental Retardation Services in Kearney.
He was a member of the Eagles and Elks in Kearney. He had been a deacon at the First Christian Church in Elm Creek and a member of the Elm Creek school board. He loved dancing, playing cards, bowling, gardening and fixing thing.
Survivors include his wife, Pat of Kearney; three daughters, Carol Eigenberg of Holdrege, Deborah Garrelts of Kearney and Kristie Spencer of Grand Island; one son, Darryl Ostrom of Franklin, La.; three stepdaughters, Glenda DeBrie of Gibbon, Tami Stewart of Oakland, Iowa, and Jacque Redden of Kearney; two stepsons, Mark Garrett of Upland and David Welsh of Kearney; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; one sister, Julia Taylor of Chappell; and one brother, Leland Ostrom of Colberg, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann; a brother, Edward Ostrom; and a half sister, Blanche Cole.
