Ethel Miller
Kearney -- Ethel J. Miller, 91, formerly of Gibbon, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at St. Luke's Center in Kearney. She had lived there since December 1992.
Services are pending at Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon-Shelton.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Rayburn and Marilyn Sheldon, both of Kearney.
Alvin Schleiger
YORK -- Alvin R. "Pete" Schleiger, 73, of York died Monday, March 30, 1998, in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Metz Chapel in York. The Rev. Harry Brown will officiate. Burial will be in York's Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Schleiger was born on Jan. 11, 1925, in York to George and Christina (Giebelhouse) Schleiger. He attended York grade and high schools. He worked in several taverns and cafes in York and at the Sun Theater before retiring.
Survivors include four sisters, Margaret Schlondorf of Clarks, Mae Melton of Sacramento, Calif., and Frances Carr and Arlene (Mrs. Owen) Kilgore, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen; and two brothers, George and Harold.
Florence Creel
CASPER, Wyo. -- Florence Nadine Creel, 70, of Casper, Wyo., formerly of Grand Island, died March 22, 1998, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
Services were at Bustard Funeral Home in Casper. The Rev. Steve Creel officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. Creel was born in Grand Island and reared on a farm. She graduated from Mason City High School and then taught in a country school. She worked for the telephone company in Newcastle, Wyo., from 1948 to 1957.
She married
Joseph Henry Creel on Oct. 2, 1957, in Cheyenne, Wyo. They moved to Casper that same year. She and her husband co-owned and operated Joe Creel Trucking. They started a local chapter of the Wyoming Thoroughbred Breeders Racing Association.
After her husband died, she worked as a clerk for So-Fro Fabrics and a secretary for Big C Service and Supply. In 1983, she began working at the county courthouse as a deputy clerk and worked there at the time of her death.
She loved sewing, crocheting and needle work. She was a member of Fort Casper Chapter 4 Order of the Eastern Star and past president of Darius Chapter Order of DeMolay Mothers Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Michelena of Sheridan, Wyo., Sue Creel-Irons of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jolene Reed of Bend, Ore.; four sons, James Creel of Cheyenne, Wyo., Dennis Creel of Casper, Wyo., the Rev. Steve Creel of Longmont, Colo., and David Creel of Beulah, N.D.; and 12 grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Brewster.
Judy Fillinger
Judy Kay Fillinger, 56, of 404 E. 15th died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Marty Egging will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the church.
Mrs. Fillinger was born on March 14, 1942, to Charles and Mildred (Lee) Pokorney. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1960. She worked for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co.
She married
Dale Fillinger on April 20, 1963, at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island. She worked for Leon Plastics as a quality control inspector for more than 30 years.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and antiques.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Marnie (Mrs. Johnny) Dalland and Micki Fillinger, both of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Marge (Mrs. Don) Fillinger of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Katie; one grandson; her parents; and one brother, Chuck Pokorney.
Arlene Pedersen
Arlene M. Pedersen of 1524 N. Kruse died at her home.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.
Bessie Roby
Bessie M. Roby, 76, of 2411 N. Taylor died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Roby was born on Feb. 16, 1922, on the family farm near Alda to William and Mary (Gulzow) Thesenvitz. She was educated at District 66 School near Alda.
She married
Leo Roby on April 2, 1941, in Grand Island. The couple lived southwest of Grand Island and farmed until 1966. Mrs. Roby then worked as a sales clerk for Crowley's and Schweser's women's clothing stores until retiring. The couple moved into Grand Island three years ago.
Her hobbies included gardening and embroidering.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Sondra (Mrs. Larry) Berney of Grand Island; two sons, Leon Roby of Alda and Rick Roby of Grand Island; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Roby; one brother, Henry Timpke; and three sisters, Helen Timpke, Edna Deichman and Mildred Schwieger.
Marshall Spradlin
Marshall Spradlin, 81, of Grand Island died Monday, March 30, 1998, at Manor Care in Overland Park, Kan.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
David Williams
David D. Williams Sr., 47, of 2503 E. Seedling Mile Road died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Elder George Whitehead will officiate. Burial will be in the Alda Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

'Buddy' Johnson
SUMNER -- Paul W. "Buddy" Johnson, 65, of Sumner died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Sumner Evangelical Free Church. The Rev. John McNeil will officiate. Burial will be in the Sumner cemetery with military rites at the graveside by John Lloyd American Legion Post 41 of Sumner.
Visitation will be prior to services Tuesday morning at the church.
