Raymond Fenner
MERNA -- Raymond Fay Fenner, 86, of Merna died Saturday, March 21, 1998, in Cozad.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Merna Fire Department or Rescue Unit.
Mr. Fenner was born on Jan. 28, 1912, at Merna to Chancy and Bertha L. (Wilkins) Fenner. He attended Ortello Valley grade school and Merna High School, where he played football.
He married
Zelpha Rice in February 1937 in Broken Bow. They lived most of their married
life on his grandfather's homestead near Merna.
Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Laurene Melchar of Lincoln, Maxine Stewart and Frances Dennis, both of Broken Bow; and three brothers, Eugene Fenner of Lincoln, Milo Fenner of Eugene, Ore., and Clyde Fenner of Denver.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald.
Clara Jones
HORDVILLE -- Clara V. Jones, 99, of Hordville died Monday, March 23, 1998, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Hordville. The Rev. Darryl Keeney will officiate.
Visitation will be on Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Alma Meyer
BURWELL -- Alma M. Meyer, 87, of Burwell died Sunday, March 22, 1998, at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
Mrs. Meyer was born on July 22, 1910, near Litchfield to Lee and Bertha (Wilson) Van Winkle. She moved to Loup County in 1923. She attended school in Sherman County and Loup County and graduated from Burwell High School in 1927.
She then attended Kearney Teachers College. She moved to rural Broken Bow in 1928. She taught in rural schools in Garfield and Custer counties for eight years.
She married
Ronald L. Meyer Sr. on May 28, 1938, in Grand Island. They moved to Fort Hartsuff in 1952 and then to the Calamus River area in 1961 before moving to Burwell in 1964.
She was a past member of the Dutchman Valley Extension Club. She was a member of the Burwell Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and reading in earlier years.
Survivors include one son, Ron Meyer of Fremont; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Roger; four brothers and three sisters.
Christopher O'Byrne
ST. EDWARD -- Christopher C. O'Byrne, 93, of St. Edward, formerly of Trenton, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward Gill will officiate. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in St. James' cemetery in Trenton. Military rites will be provided by Stellges-Baker American Legion Post 337 of Trenton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward. A wake will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will continue after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Mr. O'Byrne was born on Oct. 9, 1904, on his parents' homestead southwest of Trenton to John and Bridget (Maloney) O'Byrne. He attended Hitchcock County District 16 School and graduated from Creighton Prep in Omaha in 1926.
He entered the U.S. Navy in October 1942, served during World War II and was discharged in October 1945.
He married
Winoma Ellen Welch on Oct. 26, 1946, at Wray, Colo. They lived and farmed southwest of Trenton, where they were members of St. James' Catholic Church. He also worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office and served on the election board. He retired from farming in 1973. Mrs. O'Byrne died in 1973.
Mr. O'Byrne had been living at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward since June 1995.
Survivors include one son, John O'Byrne of Trenton; three daughters, Mary Anne (Mrs. Harlan) Long of St. Edward, Cathy (Mrs. Denny) Schack of McCook and Patti (Mrs. Jerry) Hazen of Belt, Mont.; and eight grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Christine Susan O'Byrne; one son, James Christopher O'Byrne; one granddaughter; three brothers, Christopher, Francis and Maurice; and one sister, Mary Ellen Roach.
Ivadell Smith
SARGENT -- Ivadell G. Smith, 85, of Sargent died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Goli Medical Center in Sargent.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Marty Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ or Goli Medical Center, both of Sargent.
Harold Beach
FRANKLIN -- Harold Arnold Beach, 81, of Franklin died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
The body was cremated. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Franklin. The Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Athol, Kan.
Hutchins Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Beach was born on Aug. 14, 1916, on a farm north of Kensington, Kan., to Roy and Margaret (May) Beach. He attended school in rural Smith County, Kan.
He married
Bonnie Kelso on Aug. 21, 1935, in Smith Center, Kan. He lived in Smith County until 1947 and farmed in his early years. Later he worked for 23 years in maintenance at Franklin Public Schools and drove a school bus until retiring in 1975.
After retiring, he worked in maintenance at Franklin Nursing Center until 1990.
He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and International Order of the Oddfellows Lodge, both of Franklin.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Lee of Republican City, Larry of Farmington, Minn., Lloyd of Doniphan and Ron of Roseburg, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Neva Smith of Smith Center.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, a sister and two brothers.
Lillian Jones
LINCOLN -- Lillian L. Jones, 92, of Lincoln died Sunday, March 22, 1998.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Rutten will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. Jones was born in a sod house on a homestead near Tryon to James and Anna (Anderson) Childerston.
She had been a teacher at Childerston District 11 School, a homemaker and a sales clerk at Miller & Paine.
Survivors include her husband, Henry; one daughter, Lolita (Mrs. Jerome) Weiss of Grand Island; two sons, Myron Jones of Berthoud, Colo., and Donald Jones of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Howard Childerston of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Harold Childerston of North Platte.
She was preceded in death one brother, Harry Childerston; and one sister, Erma Pyzer.
