Wanda Smalley
NORFOLK -- Wanda Smalley, 61, of Norfolk died Friday, March 20, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Norfolk. The Rev. Jack Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Plainview.
Home for Funerals in Norfolk is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the bell tower fund at St. John's Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Smalley was born on June 24, 1936, at Plainview to John and Ava (Wright) Wiegert. She attended rural school at Creighton and Osmond and graduated from Osmond High School in 1953.
She married
Larry Smalley on June 19, 1955, at Plainview. The couple lived in Norfolk, where she worked at Northwestern Bank for a number of years. In recent years, she worked as a dietary aide at Faith Regional Health Services.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Norfolk.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Randy Smalley of Norfolk; two daughters, Jill (Mrs. Gordon) Kassen of Omaha and Julie Jones-Leffers of Norfolk; eight grandchildren; five brothers, Dwain Wiegert of Wausa, LeRoy Wiegert of Lincoln, Larry Wiegert of Plainview and Robert Wiegert and Dennis Wiegert, both of Norfolk; and four sisters, Norma Bomar of Plainview, Marva Cooper of Phoenix, Amy Folkers of Grand Island and Betty Howard of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Charles Lange
Charles F. Lange, 54, of 2525 W. John died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Lakeview Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Lange was born May 2, 1943, in Wood River to William and Frieda Ann (Baeder) Lange. He graduated from Wood River High School in 1961. He attended the University of Nebraska for one year, then served in the National Guard from 1963 to 1969.
He married
LyAnne Bonsack in 1969 in Wood River. She died in 1974. He worked as a salesman for Kinman Chevrolet in Grand Island and for Moorhead Dodge in Lincoln and Omaha.
He married
Colleen Willey on May 31, 1975, in Grand Island. He then worked for Mid-Nebraska Mental Retardation Services.
He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles and Joseph, both of Grand Island, and Timothy of Aviano, Italy; a daughter, Jamie Lange of Grand Island; a brother, William of Albuquerque, N.M.; a half-brother, Jim of Wadunea, Minn.; two sisters, Frieda Johnson of Boseman, Mont., and Grace Pollack of Woodbridge, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Francis Wruk Sr.
Francis A. Wruk Sr., 71, of Grand Island died Friday, March 20, 1998, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center in Grand Island.
There are no services planned in Grand Island. Mr. Wruk was cremated. Burial will be Monday, March 30, in Racine, Wis. There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wruk was born Feb. 13, 1927, to Frank and Harriet (Kiley) Wruk in Racine. He grew up and attended school in Racine.
He entered the U.S. Navy on April 21, 1944, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on June 6, 1946.
He married
Erika A. Ropitsch on Oct. 20, 1980, in Fargo, N.D. The couple lived in Fargo, and later moved to Beatrice, Hastings and finally Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Frank Wruk Jr., Patrick Wruk and Michael Wruk; two daughters, Debra Crook and Catherine Wruk; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Agnes Koch of Waukesha, Wis., and Betty Gedemer of Racine.
Raymond Fenner
MERNA -- Raymond F. Fenner, 86, of Merna died Saturday in Cozad.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Merna Fire Department or Rescue Unit.
Mildred May
KEARNEY -- Mildred E. May, 92, of St. Lukes Home in Kearney, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Kearney. The Rev. Mike Lano will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney.
Memorials are suggested to Bethel United Methodist Church or the Gideon's International.
Mrs. May was born June 10, 1905, in Naperville, Ill., to William and Ida (Erb) Barkdoll. She grew up in Naperville and graduated from Naperville High School. She taught rural schools in South Dakota and Buffalo County.
She married
Ross May on March 6, 1929, in Hastings. The couple farmed in Buffalo County. After her husband died in 1973, she lived with and helped elderly people in Kearney for several years.
She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Steinmeyer of Grand Island, Phyllis Roker of Bird Island, Minn., and Dorothy Miller of Gibbon; three sons, Harold and Bill, both of Kearney, and John of Hampton; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.
Christopher O'Byrne
ST. EDWARD -- Christopher C. O'Byrne, 93, of St. Edward, formerly of Trenton, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward Gill will officiate.
Burial will at 4 p.m. in St. James cemetery in Trenton. Military rites will be provided by the Stellges-Baker American Legion Post No. 337 of Trenton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward, with a wake at 7:30 p.m. at the church.
Della Wahl
BRADSHAW -- Della P. Wahl, 80, of Bradshaw died Friday, March 20, 1998 in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bradshaw United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jaclyn Hoy will officiate. Burial will in the Greenwood cemetery in York.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Metz Mortuary in York.
Memorials are suggested to the church building fund.
Mrs. Wahl was born Aug. 6, 1917, in York County to Robert and Etta (Andersen) Mapps. She was a longtime York County seamstress, having worked from her home and at Freddie's Fabrics.
She married
Donald Wahl on February 3, 1937, in York.
She was a member of the Bradshaw United Methodist Church and the Bradshaw Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, Jim of Bradshaw; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters.
