James Hunzeker
HUMBOLDT -- James L. Hunzeker, 79, of Humboldt died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at the Humboldt Community Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Four Mile Congregational Church south of Humboldt. The Revs. Ron Russell and Bryce Hecht will officiate. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery.
Wherry Mortuary of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Humboldt Hospice Program.
Mr. Hunzeker was born on Aug. 30, 1918, at Humbolt to John and Sarah (Rist) Hunzeker. He attended Dry Branch District 2 School and graduated from Humboldt High School.
He married
Maurece Christensen on Aug. 10, 1942. The couple lived south of Humboldt. He was a farmer and dairyman.
He served on the natural resources district board. He organized the Richardson County Rural Water District and served as executive director until 1992.
He was a member of St. John's Reformed Church in Pawnee County until 1990. He then joined the Four Mile Congregational Church south of Humboldt.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Larry Hunzeker of Geneva and Walter and Ronald Hunzeker, both of Humboldt; two daughters, Sarah Hunzeker of Grand Island and Ruth Grosscup of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Edwin Hunzeker of St. Louis, Mich., Loren Hunzeker of San Antonio and Harold Hunzeker of Leawood, Kan.
Joseph Syslo
Joseph D. Syslo, 86, of Grand Island, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Betty Coday
MERNA -- Betty J. Coday, 70, of Merna died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Mark Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in Moulton cemetery in Loup County.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Merna Rescue Unit.
Mrs. Coday was born on Jan. 2, 1928, at Round Valley to Virgil C. and Mary Agnes (Arthur) Sells. She attended Berwyn Grade School and Berwyn High School.
She married
Stephen Sittler on June 25, 1946, at Merna. They lived in Merna. The couple later divorced. Mr. Sittler died in 1984.
She married
Gerald Coday on June 15, 1973, at Merna. They lived in Merna.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Michael Sittler of Imperial; two daughters, Sandra (Mrs. Bob) Schall of Broken Bow and Linda (Mrs. Howard) Gaffney of Anselmo; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her father, of Sheridan, Mont.; and one sister, Shirley (Mrs. Dick) Moore of King City, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her mother; one sister, Mary Embree; and two brothers, J.R. and an infant brother.
James Jensen
CHAPMAN -- James M. "Jim" Jensen, 56, of Chapman died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The casket will be closed.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Jensen was born on Feb. 19, 1942, in Onawa, Iowa, to Harry and Dorothy (Metcalf) Jensen. He was educated in the Onawa Public School and graduated from Onawa High School in 1960. He then served in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1962.
He received various certificates from Radio Engineering Institute and Control Data Corp.
He married
Lorraine J. Kroeger on June 15, 1963, in Lincoln. He worked as a control data engineer in various cities until 1971. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1971 and to Chapman in 1989. Recently he had worked for Island Landhandlers.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James F. Jensen of Chapman and Jon M. Jensen of Dannebrog; one daughter, Janet (Mrs. Francis) Hannon Jr. of Doniphan; seven grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy Ehlers of West Point; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Boyd of St. Louis and Judy Yeoman of Dakota Dunes, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his father and one infant daughter.
Ronald Rystrom
STROMSBURG -- Ronald A. Rystrom, 71, of Stromsburg died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.
Services are pending with Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Norma Dady
LAVISTA -- Norma Scott Dady, 68, of LaVista died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha after having suffered a heart attack on Sunday and then having open heart surgery.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Presbyterian Church in LaVista.
Further services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Dale Sallans will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the LaVista Rescue Squad or to scholarship funds at any Nebraska community college.
Mrs. Dady was born on Dec. 31, 1929, in Central City to Dr. Allen M. and Dorothy (Benton) Scott. She attended Central City public schools and graduated in 1948. She played the clarinet and received superior ratings in the district music contest in her last three years of high school.
She attended Lindenwood College in St. Louis for one year and transferred to Hastings College, where she finished two additional years and qualified for an elementary teaching position.
She taught for three years and then worked in her father's dental office.
She married
Milan Dady on Dec. 18, 1959, in Central City. The couple lived in Maryville, Mo.; Morehead, Ky.; and South Hill, Va., for 15 years. They moved to Ralston in 1974. She had recently been working for Kmart stores.
Mrs. Dady had served as president of PEO, Chapter M, in Omaha. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Arbor Chapter, in Central City and would have received her 50-year membership this spring.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Central City and Faith Presbyterian Church in LaVista.
Survivors include her husband, Milan of LaVista; two daughters, Roxann (Mrs. Steve) Phillips of Denton, Texas, and Patti Dady of LaVista; two grandchildren; and one brother, Joseph Scott of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Benton Scott.
Jessie Philson
FAIRMONT -- Jessie Jean Philson, 89, of Fairmont died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at the Fairview Manor.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Community Church in Fairmont. The Rev. Laura Bartels will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairmont Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Thursday at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Fairview Manor.
Mrs. Philson was born on April 13, 1908, at Fairmont to Thomas and Alice (Carson) Patton. She graduated from Fairmont High School and worked for the telephone company in Fairmont.
She married
Gailard Philson on Nov. 3, 1928, at Fairmont. She was a gray lady at the Fairmont Air Base. She moved to Grand Island, Broken Bow and Lincoln before returning to Fairmont to help her husband operate Philson's Thriftway Market.
Due to ill health, she entered Fairview Manor in October 1994.
She enjoyed church, Kensington Rebekah Lodge, cooking, sewing and reading.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Philson of Lakewood, Colo., and Janice (Mrs. Jack) Rodysill of Grand Island; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Max Philson; an infant grandson; one brother; and two sisters.
