Eileen Lukaszewski
TUJUNGA, Calif. -- Eileen M. Lukaszewski, 86, of Tujunga, Calif., died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Oakview Convalescent Hospital in Tujunga.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Martin Egging will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lukaszewski was born on June 2, 1911, at Defiance, Iowa, to Dub and Ella (Keating) Warrell. She graduated from high school at Manilla, Iowa, in 1928. She moved to Elba, where she taught rural school.
She married
Clarence "Swift" Lukaszewski on Oct. 22, 1935, at Elba. They lived in Elba until 1941, when they moved to St. Paul. They moved to Grand Island in 1953. Mrs. Lukaszewski worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island for more than 30 years, retiring at age 79.
Survivors include two sons, James Lukaszewski of Sun Valley, Calif., and Don Lukaszewski of Mesa, Ariz.; one daughter, Teri Lucas of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Monica Rodstein and Sylvia Pettet; one son, David; and two grandsons.
Mary Rose
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Mary C. Rose, 74, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Gibbon, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. John Hooge will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Hospice Program.
Mrs. Rose was born on Aug. 6, 1923, in Sterling, Colo., to Elmer R. and Naomi E. (Johnson) Jenkins. The family moved to Alma and then to Gibbon. She grew up in Gibbon, graduated from Gibbon High School in 1941 and attended Kearney State College. She worked for the telephone company in Kearney until 1943.
She married
Gerald Dale Rose on Nov. 11, 1943, in Kansas City, Kan. After he returned from military service, they lived and farmed near Gibbon. They retired in 1983 and spent their winters in Tucson, Ariz., returning to Gibbon in the summers.
She was a member of the former Presbyterian Church of Gibbon and the Gibbon American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Dan of Grapevine, Texas; one daughter, Mary Lee (Mrs. Dick) Kunze of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
John Wozney
DENVER -- John Harold Wozney, 79, of Denver, formerly of Mason City, died Feb. 22, 1998.
Services were on Feb. 25 at Fairmont's Little Ivy Chapel in Denver. The Rev. J. Darrell Schaffer officiated. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery.
Mr. Wozney was born on March 17, 1918, near Mason City to Frank and Freida Wozney. He attended schools in the area and graduated from Mason City High School in 1936.
He married
Patricia Adams on May 10, 1941. She died in 1988.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Larkins-Balde of Sandusky, Ohio, and Debora Baker of Aurora, Colo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gilbert of Concord, Mass.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank; and a sister, Dorothy Mae.
Charles 'Chick' Arnett
Charles "Chick" Arnett, 77, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at the Veterans Home.
Service are pending with the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Christopher Eckhart
Christopher "Chuck" Eckhart, 18, of 1597 S. Sylvan died of cancer on Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Rademacher officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family's choice.
Mr. Eckhart was born April 6, 1979, to Richard and Dana (Mehring) Eckhart. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1997. He entered the U.S. Marines in May 1997, and graduated from basic training on Aug. 15, 1997. He was a Private First Class at the time of his death.
Mr. Eckhart was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, James White; his sister, Holly Mason of Rapid City, S.D.; a brother, Troy Eckhart of Central City; a step-brother, Bryan White; two step-sisters, Kim Royle and Kristina White; and his grandparents, Marty and Fran Levinson of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Eckhart, and his great-grandparents, John and Caecilia Foreman.
H. Warren Rice
H. Warren Rice, 71, of Grand Island died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Doris Anderson
STROMSBURG -- Doris B. Anderson, 79, of Stromsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Kerry Relihan will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Anderson was born Dec. 28, 1918, to Frank and Minnie (Youngblood) Larson on a farm southeast of Stromsburg. She attended country school and graduated from Strombsburg High School in 1936.
She married
James L. Anderson on Aug. 28, 1939, in Stromsburg. She was employed as head cook at Stromsburg Public Schools for 10 years.
She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church for more than 40 years. She was active in choir and teaching Sunday school. She was also a member of the women's club and the coffee club.
Survivors include one daughter, Vivian (Mrs. Jerry) Bubak of Imperial; two sons, Jim Anderson Jr. and Doug Anderson, both of Stromsburg; two sisters, Pauline (Mrs. Jack) Baker of Napa, Calif., and Donna (Mrs. Grant) Bergman of Holdrege; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992.
Kathryn Bonsack
WOOD RIVER -- Kathryn "Kate" Bonsack, 91, of Wood River died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Wood River.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River with the Rev. John McKinnley officiating. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Bonsack was cremated. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Wood River Rescue Squad, Presbyterian Church or the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bonsack was born in Russia on Sept. 18, 1906, to Louis and Katerina Sauer. She emigrated at the age of one and grew up in the Lincoln area.
She married
Ira Giffin, who died in 1958. They had one daughter, Gertrude, who died in 1957. She later married
Archie Hardnoch, who died in 1967.
Mrs. Bonsack worked in Lincoln in candy making, which led to a deep appreciation of fine chocolates. She later worked at Sears, until her retirement in 1969, when she married
Herb Bonsack Sr. and moved to Wood River.
She enjoyed ceramics. She and Mr. Bonsack traveled extensively and Mrs. Bonsack enjoyed gathering shells when away from home. The wintered in Florida and Arizona until Mr. Bonsack died in 1990.
Mrs. Bonsack was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Mike Christiansen of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Linda Taylor of Roseburg, Oregon; a step-daughter, Sharon Hugleman of Lincoln; two step-sons, Herb Bonsack of Wood River and Elmer Bonsack of Gibbon; three great grandchildren; and two sisters, Bert Miller of Lincoln and Phyllis Sauer of Holdrege.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter, three brothers and one sister.
