ALLIANCE - Therese M. Weber, 88, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Marshall, Texas.
She was born in Alliance on June 11, 1927, to Joseph and Frances (Gilshannon) Coupens. Therese attended high school at St. Agnes Academy.
She met a handsome sailor, Harold Weber and they were married in Norfolk, VA on August 7, 1945. They were blessed with 5 children, Joe, Jack, Jim, Jeff and Cari. The Weber’s lived on a farm east of Alliance where Therese stayed busy taking calls for Harold’s plumbing business and raising her children. She was famous for being a hostess whether it was a full meal or cup of coffee, it was important for Therese to see guests and family were taken care of. Therese’s hobbies included sewing, dancing, canning and she loved antiques. She spent many years in the Eagles Auxiliary where she hosted antique shows and fund raisers for her community.
Her grandchildren remember their many sleepovers, fishing trips and travels to Gothenburg. Therese was noted for her strength with her many health issues later in life. Her focus was better spent doing crafts and beading bracelets and necklaces and doing ceramics at her facility. She was a proud Red Hat Society member. Her spirit was always one for adventure. She was excited in her final days to take a move to Marshall, Texas, with her daughter and close family nearby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Jack, her sisters, Elizabeth, Irene Coupens, Evelyn Boots, Charlotte Smith and Mable Gambill, her brothers, Pat, Jim and Tom Coupens and her daughter-in-law, Deb Weber.
She is survived by her children, Joe Weber, Jim (Peggy) Weber, Jeff (Vicki) Weber and Cari (Wayne) Krauter, her sister, Patricia Coble all of Alliance, 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father John Kakkuzhiyil officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be Friday from 1-5 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to Box Butte General Hospital Dialysis Unit.
Meta E. Hansen, 96
Died: Friday, September 26, 2008, in Fremont
Meta was born in Scribner, Nebraska to Frank and Mary 'Vanac' Klamt on September 8, 1912. In 1918 the family moved to a farm south of Scribner and Meta grew up in the Ridgeley area, attending rural school district 12 through the 10th grade.
She worked with her parents on the farm, helping with the homemaking and helping with field work. She also helped neighbors.
On Febr. 12, 1935, Meta was married to Leo C. Hansen in the Zion Lutheran Church of Hooper. They farmed side by side for over 30 years. In 1962, the couple moved into Scribner, and in 1986, they moved to Fremont.
She was a member of St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church and a charter member of it's LCW (Lutheran Church Women). Meta was a former member of the Scribner Women's Club and the Fremont Area Art Association. She had been active in Fremont's senior bowling league and had been inducted into the Senior Bowlers Hall of Fame. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening, oil painting, quilting, playing cards, dancing, and the Hansen's enjoyed traveling in their motorhome.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leo on June 30, 2002, and by her parents, 3 sisters and a brother.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday (Oct. 3, 2008) at St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church (south of Scribner) with the Rev. Dr. Nicki McIntyre officiating. The committal will be in the Scribner Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont on Thursday (Oct. 2nd) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM..
Michael A. Lawrenz, 60
ALLIANCE - Michael A. Lawrenz, 60, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015, at his home in Alliance.
He was born Sept. 7, 1954, in Alliance to Arthur and Betty Lee (Miller) Lawrenz.
He was a member of the First Christian Church.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Ackerman of Alliance; his brothers, Gary Lawrenz and Stephen Lawrenz, both of Alliance, and Dale (Roberta) Lawrenz of Gering; his uncles and their families, Dr. Donald Miller of Warrensburg, Mo. and Floyd Miller of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and his friend and caregiver, Gary Murphy of Alliance. He was preceded in death by his father.
At Michael’s request no memorial services will be held at this time. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Alliance Cemetery.

Theodore W. Niederkofler, 94
Died: Friday, October 10, 2008
'Ted' was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 17, 1914 to Joseph and Elizabeth 'Rose' Niederkofler. He grew up in Good Thunder, MN, and attended Rushlake Elementary School in Rushlake, MN. He had completed the 7th grade, and because of the depression, he left school and went to work. He lived in the bunkhouse of the Claude Nelson family in Mankato, MN, doing farm chores for his room and board.
In January of 1941, Ted joined the United States Army. He went through boot camp in Oregon, and while there, met Mabel Ferry. They became engaged, then he left to fulfill his military obligation. He served in the South Pacific under combat conditions, administering first aid to wounded soldiers until they could be moved to a hospital.
On January 3, 1945, Ted and Mabel Ferry were married in Missouri. They moved to Lincoln, where Ted finished his military service as an orderly in the Veteran's Hospital in Lincoln, while Mabel worked for Western Electric. During this time, the Niederkofler's had two children, Ann and Ronald. Upon retiring, the family moved to Oregon, and then when their health began to decline, the couple moved to Fremont, and later into Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife Mabel in January of this year, and by brothers Joseph and Ed.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday (Oct. 14th) in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Jim Brooks of the Evangelical Free Church officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854. Memorials are suggested to the 'Honor Flights' for the WW II veterans to see the WW II Veteran's Memorial in the nation's capitol, Washington D.C.
Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont on Monday from 3 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 PM.
Michael Hudson, 63
HEMINGFORD - Michael Wildy Hudson, 63, passed away in Houston, Texas peacefully on Aug. 14, 2015, following a courageous battle with myelofibrosis.
Mike was born in Alliance, Neb., on March 1, 1952, to the late Charles Sherman Hudson and Doris (Wildy) Hudson. He grew up outside of Hemingford, and graduated from Hemingford High School in 1970. Mike excelled in athletics and still holds the school record for the 880 yard dash (now the 800 meter) at HHS. After two years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he returned to the family cattle operation. In 1988, he was recruited to the Abbott Bank of Hemingford. In 1990, he joined Alliance Tractor & Implement as the sales manager, a position he continued to hold. On Aug. 11, 2000, he married Danette Swanson, and became the step father to four children; Tara, Tanya, Jenilee, and Jeffrey.
Mike’s loves were his family, friends, golf, trap shooting, and hunting. He enjoyed supporting the University of Nebraska and Hemingford sports teams. He was an active member of the Alliance Chamber Agriculture Committee and Sons of The American Legion. He served on the board of the Hemingford Telephone Company and Mobius Communications. He enjoyed helping the youth and loved volunteering at the Fort Robinson 4-H horse camp.
Mike was not a stranger to anyone. From the region’s farmers and ranchers that he worked with for decades, to the healthcare providers during his journey with cancer treatment, he genuinely enjoyed getting to know everyone around him. The most treasured moments in his life were spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his wife, Danette of rural Hemingford, his step-children, Tara Nodlinski (Patrick Lenhart) of Grant, Tanya (Eddie) Martens of Ogallala, Jenilee (Lee) Woltman of Hemingford, and Jeffrey (Lindsay) Nodlinski of Brule, his sister, Gail (John) Shook of Council Bluffs, Iowa, his brother, Tim Hudson of Hemingford, his niece, Chelsea Wheeland, and great-nephew, Jayden of Tuscan, Ariz., his nephew, Christopher Shook of Council Bluffs. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emily and Jordin Lenhart, Abigail Martens, Ainslee, Dallas and Raelee Woltman, Landon and Barrett Nodlinski. He will be deeply missed by his beloved furry four legged friend of 12 years, Winston.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Jessie Wildy of Hemingford; Clara and John Hudson of Wabasha, Minn., and his parents Sherman and Doris Hudson of Hemingford.
Wake services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Saint Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hemingford. The family will be available for fellowship following the wake service. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Saint Bridget’s with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Interment will follow at the Hemingford Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to build a food court shelter at the Box Butte County Fairgrounds; these donations can be made to the Box Butte County Agriculture Society. Memorials can also be made to the Hemingford Foundation Scholarship or to the donor’s choice.

Gladys S. Bartsch, 97
Died: Monday, November 03, 2008, in Fremont
Gladys was born December 23, 1910 near Big Springs, Nebraska to Edward and Anna 'Sonnenberg' Condy. She was baptized in the Methodist church in March of 1911. She grew up and attended a rural school north of Big Springs. Gladys graduated from Big Springs High School in May of 1929. She joined the Methodist church early in her youth.
After high school Gladys taught in rural schools 9 ½ years near Big Springs, Brule and Ogallala, Nebraska. She then attended Chadron College and Kearney State (called Kearney Normal at the time).
Gladys married Harold P. Kenfield in Brule, Nebraska on June 15, 1936 at her home. They lived in Ogallala for six years. They moved to Holdrege March 19, 1942. She was active in the United Methodist Church, WSCS (now called U.M.W.) She was president of U.M.W. She was a member of Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron in 1951, member of Entre Nous Club, card clubs, Hospital Service League, Community Concert Association Board, Bible Study groups, Bloodmobile for 24 years, volunteer at Methodist memorial Homes and twelve years on the MMH Board, bowling league and attended functions at the Senior Citizen Center.
After the death of Harold in November of 1970 Gladys was married to the Rev. Charles Bartsch of Fleming, CO. on March 19, 1972. They lived near Fleming, CO. for eight months until his retirement. They moved back to Holdrege in November of 1972. Rev. Bartsch passed away in February of 1987.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers – Iver, Lester & Ralph Condy.
The funeral will be on 10:30am, Tuesday November 11, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. Burial will follow in the Prairie Home Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday November 10 from 3:00pm to 9:00pm with family receiving friends from 7pm to 8pm at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.
