A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Indian Mission Church of God, with Br. Don Mink officiating.
Lillian M. Pearson, 93
Died: Tuesday, December 30, 2008, in Oakland
Lillian was born August 18, 1915 at Uehling, NE to Byrd and Imo (Harrison) Hanneman. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church of Oakland. She grew up in the Craig area and attended the Craig schools.
On April 20, 1932, Lillian was married in Benson (Omaha) to Carrol C. Pearson. They farmed in the Craig and Oakland area until 1945 when they moved to a farm near Lyons. In 1961, Lillian and Carrol moved to Fremont. Following the death of her husband Carrol, Lillian worked for the former Ranks Dept. Store in Fremont, Platte Valley Foods, Tober's Ladies Ready to Wear, and Ideas Inc.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carrol in February of 1978, by 2 great grandchildren, and her parents.
The funeral will be 2 PM Friday at Sinai Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Melang officiating. The committal will be in the Oakland Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Thursday (Jan. 1st) from 4 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
Donald Powles, 77
BINGHAM - Donald Earnest Powles, 77, passed away on May 24, 2016, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Neb., following a heart attack.
He was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Ashby, to Rolland A. and Emelene I. (Thurston) Powles.
Don lived his entire life in the Bingham area on the family ranch. He and his sister were the last graduating class from Bingham High School in 1956. He served a short time in the Army, returning home to marry Gretchen Eileen Pisel on June 3, 1962, and of that union three children were born.
Don was a lifelong rancher who enjoyed a great conversation and lived for a good game of cards. He was a calf roper and team roper in his younger days and more recently loved cheering for his grandchildren as they competed in various activities. A Master Angler, Don was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
Don grew up raising Horned Hereford Cattle with his Dad. They participated in the Cow Town Hereford Bull Sale for years then Don began a new venture in the early ‘70s breeding Gelbvieh cattle with longtime friend Phil VanDervoort. Don bred Black Imprint, the first Homozygous Black, Homozygous Polled Gelbvieh bull. Buster, Polled Midnight, Black Velvet, and Jetstream were some of the bulls that made the Powles Gelbvieh Ranch. He was an active member of various cattle and breed organizations throughout his ranching career.
Don was an active school board member of the Bingham School for 27 years, a lifetime member of the Bingham Church, and was active in Gideon’s International. He was honored to receive the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award and most recently was a board member of the Nebraska Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Gretchen Pisel Powles, three children, Tena (Ron) Raglin, Jana (JC) Jensen and Bryon (Audrey) Powles. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Matthew and Marissa Raglin and Jada and Cameron Jensen and his two great-grandchildren, Jayden Raglin and Amira Raglin and many friends and family.
Preceded in death by his father Rolland Powles, mother Emelene Thurston Powles and sister Carol Ann Powles.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Bingham Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Safarik officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Bingham Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday with the family being present from 4-6 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the Bingham Lutheran Church.
Robert W. Jensen, 80
Died: Sunday, February 15, 2009, in Fremont
He was born July 10, 1928 in Fremont to Viggo and Elsie 'Johnson' Jensen. He grew up in Fremont, graduating from Fremont High School. Later he received his doctorate from the University of Nebraska.
Over the years, he held various positions in higher education. He retired in 1983 while living in the state of Connecticut. At that time he was the state planning officer for the state technical college system in Connecticut.
He was also a retired Navy Commander, having served 25 years in both the active and reserve service. Among his duty stations, he saw time in Korea and Vietnam.

Robert was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth Jensen and a sister Marian Neufind.
There are no public services planned. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or any other cancer memorial fund. Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, is in charge of the arrangements.
Diana Martinez, 71
ALLIANCE - Diana Kay Martinez passed away on July 2, 2016, one day before her 72nd birthday.
Diana Hagen was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance. Her Dad was in the veterinary group attached to the Air Force hospital at the Alliance Air Base. She attended all three grade schools in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High in the class of 1962. That summer she went to a telegraphy training school in Lincoln. She and three of her classmates traveled to Chicago and all went to work for Western Union. They shared an apartment and became life-long friends. After a year a couple of the girls were going to be married so Diana came back to Alliance.
Diana went to Denver and became the manager of a Western Union office there. An armed gunman gave her the hold-up experience all WU employees feared.
She moved into an apartment where she met Donald Martinez. They married a year later. In 1973 they adopted a two-month old girl that they named her Maria Michelle. A vibrant family life was shared with Don’s siblings and their families.
Diana worked as a car salesman for the Chrysler agency and pharmacy tech for Pamida in Alliance before opening a catering service through The American Legion. In Denver she was human resources manager and events planner for Metron corporation. Don and three friends formed a real estate corporation and Diana worked as a sales person. At the time of her passing she was employed at Carnegie Arts Center.
Don passed away at the age of 51 of an inherited heart condition. When her father had cancer Diana returned to Alliance. She met her second husband, R. Kenneth Bonham after returning to- Denver. Ken had owned a construction company in Texas and worked in construction most of his life. He passed away after battling cancer.
Throughout her life Diana was a people person. She loved the people she worked with and the many folks she met through her jobs and organizations. People always recognized her hearty laugh. Special friends came from her Pamida Pharmacy work, volunteers and members at Carnegie, Soroptimist, catering business customers including the Lions Club members, Presbyterian Church members and many people who received meals on wheels - a favorite giving back to the community project. She met with a group of graduates of her class for dinner at least once a month. She and Jelinda Nye hung art for Box Butte Art Society at various businesses giving customer appreciated showings and occasional sales for artists. She served as president of S.I. of Alliance at the time of her death, was a member of The American Legion Auxiliary and served on the Senior Center board. The veterans cemetery became a favorite volunteering project from the early days of its planning and she was the cookie chairman.
She is survived by her mother, Donna Hagen Zeller of Alliance, her daughter, Maria Martinez Lekvin of Dade City, Fla.; step-son, Ray Martinez and step-daughter, Holly Lupo of Denver; aunt, Shirley (Ernie) Perez of McCook; step-sister, Katherine Niessen, Edina, Minn.; step-brothers Robert (LaDonna) and Ronald (Barbara) Zeller and step- sister Carolyn (J.P.) Mann; and many beloved grandchildren and cousins.
She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, her father, Robert G. Hagen, step-father, Robert M. Zeller, aunt Sharon Pate, uncle William K. Case; brother-in-law James Niessen.
Funeral services will be at the First Presbyterian Church, at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 15, with Pastor Jay Kim officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a Chapel Hill Cemetery in Centennial, Colo.

Marlon D. Jones, 53
Died: Saturday, February 14, 2009, in Omaha
Marlon was born in Fremont on November 14, 1955 to Kenneth and Mary 'Johnson' Jones. He grew up in Arlington, Nebraska and graduated from Arlington High School with the class of 1974.
He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving with the Sea Bees from 1974 to 1977. He returned to this area, working at Valmont. In 1984, he reenlisted and retired from the Navy Sea Bees in 2001. Marlon had served in many locations all around the world. Following his return to Fremont, he has worked in maintenance for Nye Square / Nye Court.
Marlon was a member of the Arlington Community Church. An excellent woodworker, he had made many pieces for his family and friends. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and he was an avid Cornhusker fan.
His granddaughter, Gracie, had a special place in her grandfather's life.
On April 30, 1977, Marlon was married to Susan Livingston in the First United Methodist Church in Fremont.

Marlon was preceded in death by his father Kenneth, infant sister Patty, his father-in-law Don Livingston, and 2 brothers-in-law.
A memorial service will be held in the Arlington Community Church, 11 AM Wednesday (Febr. 18, 2009) with the Rev. Shirley Schmidt officiating. Following the service the United States Flag will be presented to the family by the American Legion Post and the VFW Post of Arlington. There will be no public visitation. A memorial to Marlon will be established later.
The Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, is in charge of the arrangements.
