Marie was born November 9, 1917 on the farm in Butler County, near David City, Nebraska. Her parents were Louis and Albina (Hlavac) Laudenklos. She was baptized November 18, 1917, and then she was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont on April 4, 1948.
She moved with her family from the farm to Dodge, Nebraska in the 1930's, and she attended Dodge High School. Marie went to work in Fremont, where she met her future husband. She and Marvin Bartling were married on January 1, 1941 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska and have been married 68 years. They have been long time Fremont residents. Marie was a loving wife, mother, and home maker. Marie and Marvin have resided in Shalimar Gardens in Fremont the past 2 years.
Marie has been a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fremont since 1948.

Marie was preceded in death by 4 brothers (Nicholas, Joseph, George, Donald) and 4 sisters (Margaret Hass, Blanche Lannon, Marcella Peters, Mildred Benetti).
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday (Febr. 9th, 2009) in Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, on Sunday (Febr. 8th) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 PM.
Dixie Lee Kiester, 77
HEMMINGFORD - Dixie Lee (Roth) Kiester, 77, passed away June 12, 2016, in Cheyenne, Wyo.
She was born Dec. 25, 1938, in Alliance, Neb., to Charles C. and Vealya M. (Timmins) Roth. She grew up 18 miles southwest of Hemingford.
Dixie went to school in a one-room school house until high school and then graduated from Alliance High in 1956.
On June 17, 1956, she was united in marriage to Robert Earl Kiester at the Methodist Church in Hemingford. They raised their family one-mile north of town. After selling the farm, they retired to Sebring, Fla. Dixie also resided at The Residency in Scottsbluff and Primrose in Cheyenne.
Dixie was a member of Eastern Star and P.E.O. While living in Hemingford, she was an EMT, firefighter, Box Butte Co. Fair Queen Contest chair for many years, FUMC youth-group leader and district conference youth-group leader, and a past president and member of FUMC women’s group.
Dixie was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a gracious and giving lady who had a strong faith in God. Dixie loved working in her garden, playing bridge, camping with her ‘Circle of Life’ family at the Box Butte dam, doting on her great-grandchildren, and spending time with her family and friends in Florida and Branson. She was loved by everyone.
Survivors include her son, Kirt (Laura) Kiester, grandchildren Andrea, Alex, Lilly of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Gay, (Craig) Wilson, grandchildren Sarah (Mike) Horen, great-granddaughter Sydney Lynn; identical twin grandsons, Phillip Honstein and Mark Honstein, great-grandson Bryson, all of Cheyenne; daughter-in-law Lori Kiester, grandchildren Kasandra and Kolton of North Branch, Minn.; brother, Darrell (Sharon) Roth of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Preceding her in death were her parents Chuck and Vealya Roth; son Kelly Kiester, her loving husband and partner in life, Robert Kiester, and identical twin sister, Nancy Knight.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at the First United Methodist Church in Hemingford; Pastor Craig Collins will officiate. Following the service, a luncheon will be served by the FUMC women’s group in the church basement. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Memorial Fund through Bank of the West, Hemingford, Nebraska 69348. Condolences may be sent to 2911 Foothills Rd. Cheyenne, WY 82009. Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel is in charge of cremation.
Alice Stalling Miller, 92
Died: Tuesday, January 27, 2009, in Denver, Colorado
Alice was born to Herman and Emma 'Stenvers' Stalling in Scribner on July 31, 1916. She was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Hooper. She attended school district 35, graduated from Scribner High School, and then graduated from the University of Nebraska.
She taught school in Beaver City, NE before moving to Denver in the 1940's. There she went to work for General Motors. In 1966, Alice was married to Art Miller. She loved gardening and flowers, and always had the most beautiful yard in the area.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Denver.
Her survivors are a step-daughter – Debra and husband Randy Straight, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren all of Denver, her sister Evelyn Ellermeier of Scribner, NE, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Art, her parents, and 3 sisters, Agnes Peters, Marcella Suhr, and Doris Stalling.
A funeral service will be held in Denver at the Fairmount Mortuary Friday morning, 10 AM. (Jan. 30th). There will also be a funeral service in St. Paul's Lutheran Church (north of Hooper) at 10:30 AM Monday (Febr. 2nd, 2009) with Vicar Judy Johnson. The committal will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The visitation will be Monday morning at St. Paul's Church for an hour before the service.
Rose Schmeits, 59
ALLIANCE - Rose Ellen Schmeits, 59, died Friday, June 10, 2016, at Ainsworth, NE at 5:05 p.m. CST.
Rose was born on March 8, 1957, at St. John’s Hospital in Spalding to John Henry and Julia Elizabeth (Ketchmark) Schmeits. Her maternal grandparents were John Edward and Donna Hazel (Hughes) Ketchmark and her paternal grandparents were John Leonard and Anna (Haun) Schmeits. Rose was baptized, received her First Holy Communion and was confirmed at St. Michael’s Church in Spalding.
Rose attended Spalding Academy graduating in 1975. She continued her education, graduating in 1979 from St. Mary College (University of St. Mary) in Leavenworth, Kan., earning degrees in mathematics and business. She worked at Woolco shoe department as retail manager both in Omaha and Muscatine, Iowa. She then worked for Mutual of Omaha in Omaha. Returning to Spalding Rose joined the staff at Spalding Academy as secretary and she loved it! In 1994 Rose moved to Alliance where she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk. With the changes in the post office Rose transferred to North Platte where she was employed at the time of her death.
Rose loved life and fought desperately to keep hers. She was diagnosed with auto-immune chronic active hepatitis in 1985. She went through two liver transplants maintaining the will to live. God bless the loving families that shared their loved ones organs with her. She will be remembered for her great laugh and the joy she brought to others. We all will miss her but know she is no longer in pain.
She is survived by her 2 brothers and 4 sisters, Fred (Marie) Schmeits of Spalding, Sheila Schmeits of Alliance, Mary Naughtin of Alta Loma, Calif., Janet (Gary) Osborne of Longmont, Colo., Donald “Bruiser” (Pam) Schmeits of Omaha and Bernadette Schmeits of Aurora, Colo., her aunts, Ruth Schmeits of Goehner and Irene Schmeits of Spalding, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jack.
A wake service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, at St. Michael’s Church in Spalding. Wake services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery at Spalding.
Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice or to either St. Agnes Academy Foundation in Alliance or Spalding Academy Foundation in Spalding.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements and Dolce-Scheef Mortuary of Spalding is in charge of arrangements in Spalding.
Mary Jo Dart, 74
Died: Monday, January 26, 2009, in Fremont
Mary Jo was born August 19, 1934 in Villisca, Iowa to Harry and Ethel 'Lofgren' Bashaw. She was raised in Villisca and graduated from Villisca High School in 1953. After high school Mary Jo moved to Omaha and began working. She married Frank Dart in Villisca, Iowa on April 24, 1954. The couple moved to Fremont in 1958. In the mid 1960's they moved to Kearney and lived there for three years before returning to Fremont to raise their family. After returning to Fremont, Mary Jo worked at JC Penney for ten years then for Schweser's Department Store. Mary Jo moved to Shalimar Gardens in September of 2008.
Mary Jo was a member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Solos Group of First Lutheran.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband Frank in April of 1999, a brother and her parents.
The funeral will be on Friday January 30 at 2pm in First Lutheran Church (3200 E. Military). The Rev. Norman Freund will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will continue 1 hour before service at the church.
