Frances ‘Pat’ Colvin, 96
NORTH PLATTE - Frances Mae “Pat” Colvin, 96, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at her home in North Platte.
Pat was born May 12, 1920, to James Raymond and Elsie Pearl Watts Arnett in North Platte. She grew up in the Platte Valley, graduating from Platte Valley High School. Right after graduation, Pat moved to Denver, Colo., to attend Parks Business College. After graduating, she lived with a group of friends, and worked as a bookkeeper for several companies. She was a very independent woman for her time.
Always strong, sharp, and thoughtful, Pat fondly remembered her time working for the railroad in Denver. It was there she met her husband, Raymond Edward Colvin. After two dates, they were married, then Ray was sent overseas to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Following Ray’s discharge, they moved to North Platte in 1949. Here, she enjoyed volunteering for many organizations and belonged to the Platte Valley Women’s Club and Platte Valley and Nichols Extension Club. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Pat was an avid traveler, visiting 49 states, Ireland, Australia, and the Caribbean. But it was at home where her grandkids would hear the jingle of wind chimes on her “magic” freezer, meaning Grandma’s goodies were on their way. Pat was a proud supporter of her grandkids’ academics and sports, always attending sporting events to watch her kids and grandkids. She also loved watching the Huskers, especially volleyball.
Pat read the newspaper front to back every day, and could fill in a crossword puzzle like no one’s business. She will live on in the loving memories of her family, for it was her family that Pat put above all else. We’re very thankful to have enjoyed so many good years with her.
She is survived by her children, Kay DeBell, of Broomfield, Colo., Tom (Becky) Colvin, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Don (Marcia) Colvin, of North Platte, Dick (Linda) Colvin, of St. George, Utah, and Karen Todd, of Alliance; grandchildren, Dan (Angela) DeBell, Joe (Renee) DeBell, Erin DiFulvio, Sean Colvin, Erin Colvin, Talia DiFulvio, Hailey Colvin, Rebecca (Jeremy) Murphy, Laura (Bryce) Bornemeier, David (Sarah) Colvin, Melissa (Ward) Prickett, Sarah (Mike) Wittry, Andrea Todd and Michael (fiancée Kay) Todd; and great-grandchildren, Evan, Haley, Colton, Parker, Ryan, Jacob, Sam, Hannah, Grant, Owen, Emerson, and Jackson; sister, Mildred McTiernan, of Denver; sister-in-law, Betty Arnett, of North Platte; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Pat was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray; her parents, Ray and Elsie Arnett; son-in-law, Jim DeBell; brother, Charles Arnett; brothers-in-law, Jim McTiernan and Baxter, Bob, and Jim Colvin; and sister-in-law, Ruth Colvin Jesse.
Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating.
In keeping with Pat’s wishes, the casket will be closed. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or prior to the service at the church. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the First United Methodist Church, Hershey Education Foundation, Alliance TeamMates or Great Plains Hospice.

Nicholas Gerard Kosmicki, 78
Nicholas Gerard Kosmicki, 78 of Greeley, passed away May 15, 2016. Nick was born on July 1, 1937 in Alliance, NE, to Leonard and Lillian Kosmicki. He graduated from St. Agnes Academy in Alliance and went on to attend the University of St. Louis where he graduated with a B.S. in accounting. He was accepted into the Officers Candidate School for the U.S. Navy obtaining the grade of Lieutenant J.G. serving during the Cuban missile crisis. After his honorable discharge he began his accounting career in Denver, CO, with Price Water House Coopers and became a Certified Public Accountant.
Nick and his wife Kay moved to Greeley, CO, the city they would come to call home in 1972 to work for WD Farr and Farr Farms. It was there they would raise their sons Matt and Mark, and their daughter Terry. In 1974 Nick opened his own CPA practice that grew over the years to include many prominent clients. In addition to his expertise in accounting, each of his clients came to consider him a friend and life advisor. Upon selling his practice in 2010, he was free to enjoy his life avocations of bird hunting and fly fishing. For years he belonged to and actively participated in Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Trout Unlimited, and was a long time member of the Beebe Draw Gun Club. Harkening back to his boyhood on the farm in Nebraska, wing shooting was second nature to Nick and a major part of family and social life. It was on the rivers and lakes where he always found his greatest peace while casting one of his Winston fly rods from his vast collection of fly fishing gear. Nick also accumulated an extensive library of fly fishing novels and manuals and donated them to the University of Wyoming for which they were greatly appreciative and honored him for his generosity citing the comprehensive nature of the collection. Nick was also an avid Cornhusker fan!
Above all, Nick was always known as a very giving person. In addition to his work with the Rotary, United Way, and other charities, he was recognized by the W.D. Farr Foundation for his contribution to the community. Perhaps Nick’s greatest accomplishment was his ability to make friends for life, keeping in close touch with a long list of friends going back to his childhood. He had the innate ability to be a friend when a person needed a friend the most.
In his last years Nick endured a number of medical challenges but throughout it all he always appreciated and held those in the medical community in the highest esteem. He met each day with grace and dignity. While Heaven is a better place for him, those of us he has finally left behind have lost a friend whose friendship knew no bounds.
Nick is survived by his wife Kay of Greeley; son Matt and wife Shirley of Charlotte, NC, son Mark and Wife Laura of St. Paul, MN; daughter Terry and husband Don McCullough of Denver, CO; grandchildren Caroline and Kate Kosmicki, Dawn Turek, Bryan, David and Spencer McCullough; great grandchildren Fysher and Thatcher Turek; sister Helen and husband Jerry Berry of Chadron, Ne; and brother John and wife Susan of Windsor, CO; in addition to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother George Kosmicki of Martin, SD.
A Rosary will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 20, 2016 with Mass of Christian Burial to follow starting at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A reception will follow the service at the Greeley Country Club. Inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities or St. Mary’s Grade School in Greeley, CO, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
