U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Donald Miller, 80
ALLIANCE - Donald Ward (Pops) Miller, 80, of Alliance, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016.
He was born in Milford, Neb., to Silas J. and Christine Miller on Nov. 4, 1935.
Donald had a career in electronics that started with the U.S. Air Force in Biloxi, Miss. He later worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kan., and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
After retiring, Donald moved to Alliance where he furthered his lifelong passions for Cornhusker football, horse racing, beer and Keno.
He is survived by 5 brothers and sisters, sons Douglas (Cecelia) Miller of Alliance, Marty (Karen) Miller, Darren (Terry) Moore, and Kevin (Peggy) Moore, all of Wichita; plus 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Family is planning a graveside memorial service at Pleasant View Cemetery, Milford, at a later date.

Ruth Teebken, 74
Died: Saturday, March 10, 2012, in Omaha
Ruth was born September 10, 1937 in Fremont to Luther and Wilmeth (Williams) Monke. She grew up in the Telbasta area of Washington County attending a one room country school. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1955.
On March 26, 1955, Ruth Monke was married to Richard 'Dick' Teebken in Mississippi while he was serving in the United States Coast Guard. He left the states soon after and Ruth returned to Fremont, and then 6 months later she joined him in Honolulu where they were for 2 years.
Following his service they returned to Fremont where they lived for 4 years, and then built a home in Fontanelle where they lived for 30 years. They have lived in Fremont the past 12 years.
Ruth was a member of the Fremont Alliance Church where for the last several years she has led the Wednesday night Awana girls. For several years she was the local Chairman of the National Day of Prayer. She led high school bible studies and Sunday School classes for international students from Midland College. She also went on mission trips to Kenya and Hungary.
Survivors: husband - Richard 'Dick'
2 daughters - Kara and husband Bradley Brown of Lincoln
Beth and husband Gary Morris of Fremont
2 sons - Tim and wife Diane Teebken of Seattle, Washington
Jeff and wife Jennifer Teebken of Longmont, Colorado
16 grandchildren - Caleb, Leah, Luke, Rachel, and Emmarie Brown
Nicholas and wife Cara Morris, Jeff and wife Abby Morris,
Jodi and husband Brian Pritchard, Sam and Alex Morris
Faith and Grace Teebken
Laura and husband Nathan Sloan, Ben and Andrew Teebken,
Marla and husband Heath Hardesty
3 great grandchildren - Caleb Sloan, Carlee Morris, and Jaxson Morris
1 sister - Muriel and husband Jim Keeler of Fremont
1 brother - Robert and wife Phyllis Monke of Fremont
sister-in-law - Helen Monke of Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her brother William 'Bill' Monke.
The funeral service will be held in the Fremont Alliance Church at 10:30 AM Thursday - March 15th with the Rev. Tom Nevius. The committal will be in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery at Fontanelle. Memorials are suggested to the Ceria Missionary Fund of the Fremont Alliance Church.
Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday - March 14th from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 PM.

Jerry Ash, 35
ALLIANCE - Jerry Allen Ash, 35, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff from injuries he received in a motor vehicle accident at Mitchell.
He was born July 8, 1980, at Sheridan, Wyo., to Jon A. and Rita J. (Serna) Ash.
Jerry and his family moved to Alliance at the age of 4. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1999. Jerry moved around a lot after high school spending time in various places before landing in Sheridan. It was there that he met and eventually married Amanda Doby. Shortly thereafter, they were blessed with their little princess, Bella Katherine. After the birth of their daughter they moved to Torrington, Wyo., to be closer to family and go back to school. While there Jerry took classes at EWC and WNCC and eventually graduated from WNCC with a Powerline Construction and Maintenance Technology Degree in 2013. After graduating, Jerry became employed at the Scottsbluff County Fairgrounds as the grounds superintendent and was still employed at the time of his death.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends but most of all; he cherished the time spent with his daughter. He loved playing his guitar, sketching or painting in his spare time. His latest passion was riding his Harley and spending time with his brothers of Valhalla West End MC. Jerry will definitely be missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Bella Katherine Ash of Torrington, his parents, Jon and Rita Ash of Alliance, his sister, Joni Lynn Ash of Columbus, his brother, Fernando (Heather) Ash of Hemingford, his niece and nephews, Trevor Benge, Tanner Benge, Moses Ash, Zachary Kobza, Kaylob Kobza and Kamryn Ash. He is also survived by his grandmother, Ninfa J. Serna of Sheridan, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Emma Ash and Guadalupe Serna Sr.
Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. Friday at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father John Kakkuzhiyil officiating. Cremation will follow the service. A reception after the service will follow at Players Sports Bar where we can share stories and celebrate the life of Jerry.
Memorials may be given in care of the family at B-6 Tower Plaza, Alliance, NE 69301

Chester Ryan, 99
Died: Saturday, March 10, 2012, in Fremont
Chester was born on September 27, 1912 in Central City, Nebraska to Samuel and Fanny (Heuring) Ryan. He grew up in Central City, and graduated from high school there.
On June 26, 1938, Chester was married in Central City to Marguerite Barton. They remained in Central City, where Chester worked for Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co, until moving to Neligh in 1949. In Neligh, Chester was with the Safeway Grocery Store . He retired from Safeway as a manager, and came to Fremont in 1986.
He was preceded in death by his wife in January of 1995, and by a grandson, a sister and a brother.
Survivors: son - Chester L. Ryan and wife Linda of Fremont

There will be a visitation with the family at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM. The committal will be in the Central City Cemetery.

Jeanette Hinn, 87
LAKESIDE - Jeanette (Smith) Hinn, 87, of Lakeside, passed on to her eternal home April 20, 2016, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home.
Jeanette was born Jan. 17, 1929, in the small town of Madison, Mich., to Ray and Marie Brooks. She was raised by Jim Smith and Sue Smith on their ranch near Rushville. As she was the only child, Jeanette had a very active childhood and the Smith’s gave her the nickname “Sunshine.” She helped with chores, cooked, traveled and attended country school. Jeanette graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1946.
Jeanette married Sam Hinn Feb. 18, 1947. After they moved to Smith Ranch they began their family and were blessed with three children, James, Robert, and Jeanie. Jeanette was very active on their ranch and was well known for her home cooked meals, as well as her fabulous yard and garden. It was not unheard of for her to make a full course meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and fresh baked pies and rolls for 20 people and take it out to the hay field.
When Jeanette wasn’t cooking or helping on the ranch she spent her time with friends and neighbors at numerous organizations. Celia Ostrander Barth and Jeanette were leaders of the Smith Lake 4-H Club for several years. Many happy afternoons were spent crocheting or knitting at the Smith Lake Hobby Club. As a member of the Federated Garden Club she thoroughly enjoyed taking care of her beautiful yard full of flowers and large garden. Jeanette was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Morse Memorial Methodist Church of Rushville.
Jeanette is survived by son James (Nancy) Hinn of Grand Island, daughter Jeanie Kearns (Tim Regier) of Lakeside, daughter in-law Tess Hinn (Zach Kraenow) of Lakeside, sister Maxine Gladd of White Lake, Mich., sister Teresa Kempfer of Muscota, Wis., and sister in-law Margie Hinn of Rushville. Grandchildren include, Allison (Jim) Jonak, Emilee Hinn, Casey (Kylee) Hinn, Blake Hinn, Euretta Kearns, Paul Kearns (Tami), Shaina (Nate) Huffman, and Ethan (Brandi) Kearns. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Sam and Jeanette lived and worked 42 years on their ranch until Sam’s passing. At that time Jeanette moved to Rushville and then to Pioneer Manor in 2010. She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Sam in 1989, son Robert in 2009 and brother Arnold in 2016.
The 119-year legacy of Smith Ranch carries on through fourth generation family.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. at Pleasant Point Church with graveside services immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rushville Fire and Rescue or Plains Theatre. Donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366 Gordon, NE 69343.
