CRAWFORD - Mary F. Miller, 80, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at her home.
Mary Frances was born July 10, 1934 at Lusk, Wyo., to Henry L and Isabel R. (Richardson) Hagemeister, the oldest of eight children. She grew up at Crawford for most of her early years, and spent her freshman year of high school with her Uncle Frank and Aunt Georgia Hagemeister at Scottsbluff. She worked in the Crawford bakery during her high school years, and worked as a telephone operator after high school, before she was married.
Mary was married to Melvin Miller, her high school sweetheart, on May 29, 1953, and devoted the rest of her life to being his partner and loving wife. She had nine children of her own, and helped raise her three youngest sisters after the death of her mother in 1964. Each summer, after the girls were out of school, Mary would welcome them into the Miller home and loved them as her own.
Mary was a very creative person, who taught herself to decorate cakes and took classes in creative sewing stitches. She had a servant’s heart, and served the St John the Baptist Catholic Church in many areas, including Altar Society. She was always available to anyone who needed a helping hand and a compassionate ear.
While being a farmer’s wife and raising nine children, she would find time to raise a garden and chickens, and serve neighbors during the branding season. Mary loved to go on picnics and the annual 4th of July parade and rodeo at Crawford.
Mary loved babies and was able to enjoy many happy family times with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her survivors include her children Chuck (Veronica) Miller of Minatare, Carolyn (Mike) Bell of Rapid City, S.D., Roy (Wendy) Miller of Custer, S.D., Tom Miller of Torrington, Wyo., Jim (Laurie) Miller of Fort Robinson, Susan (Doug) Leeling of Crawford, Valerie Miller of Crawford, Laurie (Harold) Ponserella of Strasburg, Colo., and Sandy (John) Orr of Rushville; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, daughter-in-law Deb, two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.n Saturday, May 9, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Frs Arul Innaiah, Bernard Berger and Tim Stoner officiating.
Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 8, at the church.
A memorial has been established for the Crawford Fire Department, in care of Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337-0970.

Donald M. Ackerman, 86
Died: Thursday, June 14, 2012, in Fremont
He was born in Fremont on August 3, 1925 to Albert and Irene (Growcock). On January 20, 1945 he was married in San Diego to Margaret Edgington.
He joined the Fremont Police Department in 1947 and became the department's first detective. The Ackerman's moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in October of 1963. There he worked in security for several of the hotels. He was a detective at Caesars Palace. He received his license in January of 1967 and started his own detective and investigation business.
Donald was the first commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 18 of Fremont. He had served in the United States Navy during WW II.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Tuesday (June 19th) from 9 to 11 AM, followed by a graveside service in Ridge Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.

Sr. Miriam Rubel, 91
ALLIANCE - Sister Miriam Rubel, 91, died Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Marian Residence.
Sister Miriam was born June 14, 1923, at Paxton (Dallas), S.D., to Charles and Ida (Budde) Rubel and was named Marcella Rose.
She entered Marycrest Convent at Denver, Colo., on Sept. 8, 1941, and professed her vows on Aug. 16, 1943, as Sister Mary Miria.m. She moved to Minot, N.D., as a nursing student at St. Joseph’s Hospital graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. Sister Miriam then moved to Scottsbluff where she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital until 1955 and then returning to Minot, for the next 20 years.
She received her Bachelor of Science in 1957 form St. Mary’s College in Xavier, Kan., and her Master’s degree in nursing service in 1964 from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in 1978.
Her ministry in health care brought her to St. Joseph’s Hospital at Alliance in 1977. In 1980 she became administrator of Marian Residence serving in that capacity until 1990. She then returned to Marycrest in Denver and for a time was a hospital administrator in Kenmare, N.D. In 1996 she moved back to Alliance to resume as administrator at Marian Residence until 2004. In recent years she has continued her ministry in service to others in Alliance, Denver, and O’Neill, and relocated to Alliance permantly in 2010.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Darlene Rubel of Bellevue, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Vernon and Leo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. John Kakkuzhiyil officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Marian Chapel.
Memorials may be given to Marian Residence.

Kenneth J. Clausen, 91
Died: Tuesday, June 05, 2012, in Fremont
Kenneth was born January 3, 1921 in Logan, Iowa to Fred and Margaret (Plumbeck) Clausen. He grew up on the farm near Logan and graduated from Logan High School. Following his graduation, he went to Chicago where he worked in construction building smokestacks. He enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1944, serving until November of 1946. Then in June of 1949 he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving until June of 1957.
On July 25, 1950, Kenneth was married in Lincoln to Marie Husak. As he was still in the Air Force, they lived for a time in Omaha, then Mead, and then he was stationed in Alaska before being stationed in Duluth, Minnesota. They lived in Wahoo before moving to Fremont in 1954. During most of his civilian working years, he was employed in the automotive department of J.C. Penneys in Fremont as a mechanic. Following his retirement from Penneys, he was a custodian for the school system in Valley for nearly 20 years.
At one time, Kenneth had been a dance instructor for the Arthur Murray Dance Studios. He was a big fan of his children's sports activities. He had been a boy scout leader, enjoyed fishing, was interested in cars and flying (at one time owned his own plane and was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force) and he always had a dog.
Kenneth was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 18 of Fremont.

Kenneth was preceded in death by 2 sons (Joel on April 14, 1997 and Kenneth 'Jim' on Febr. 5, 2011), brother Melvin 'Bud', and an infant daughter Margaret.
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday (June 8, 2012) at the First Lutheran Church (3200 E. Military) with the Rev. Charlie Axness. The committal will follow in Ridge Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 18 and VFW Post 854. Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 18, and to the Children's Ministry of First Lutheran Church.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Thursday (June 7th) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family present from 6 to 8 PM. The casket will be closed at the church.
