Mrs. Veronica Irene Hutton, age 84, of Grand Island, Nebraska died Thursday, September 2nd, 2004 at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services will be Saturday, September 4, 2004, from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis T. Curran officiating. Burial will be in the Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, NE. Visitation will be Friday, 3-9 from the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home with the rosary to be
recited at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor's choice. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Hutton was born in Mendon, Michigan on June 28, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Agnes (Fisher) Flach. She was the sixth of their twelve children. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1937. Following graduation, she worked for the Kalamazoo Stove Company. In 1942, she entered the United States Women's Air Corps, serving in World War II. It was during the service, that she met her future husband. She was honorably discharged in 1944
. She was united in marriage to Glen R. Hutton on November 27, 1943 at Sedalia, Missouri. The couple came back to Cairo, living there a short time, and then moved to Grand Island where they remained. She was co-owner and bookeeper of the family business, Hutton's Washer & Appliances. She was also owner & operator of Ronnie's Laundry Service.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and taught RCIA for many years. She especially enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and loved spending time with her family.

She served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in WW II.

Della M. Catlett, 88 of Grand Island, died Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the Nebraska Veterans Home, Grand Island, NE.
Funeral services will be, Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gollaher Chapel with the Rev. Jim Keyser officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, September 14, 2004, 3-9 p.m. at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friend from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Catlett was born, August 7, 1916, in Grand Island, NE the daughter of J. Orval & Edith (Davison) Hutton. She grew up in Grand Island graduating with the class of 1933. She was employed by American Optical where she worked for 35 years. She retired in 1973.
She was united in marriage to Clyde E. Catlett on June 17, 1969, in Grand Island. The couple lived their entire married lives in Grand Island. Mr. Catlett preceded her in death August 11, 2002.
She was a member of Triniyt United Methodist Church. DOES of the Elks #147, Grand Island Women's Club and was Past President of the Chamber of Commerce Women's Division.
Survivors include: Two step-sons: Larry Catlett of Indian Wells, CA, and Gary Catlett of Grand Island. Three step-grandchildren, three step great grandchildren. One brother: Virgil Hutton, Brighton, CO. One sister: Margaret ( Mrs.F.D.) Woodward, Grand Island, NE.
Preceded in death by: Her husband, Clyde, one brother, and her parents.
Margaret Berggren
Margaret Berggren, 78, of Grand Island, died Monday, September 27, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church Gollaher Chapel with the Rev. Del Roper officiating. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 3 to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. Mrs. Berggren was born on October 6, 1925 at Chadron to F. Harry and Edna (Hammond) Williams. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1943.
She was united in marriage to Myron Berggren on May 18, 1947, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. She worked at the Hall County Treasurers office from 1943 to 1950. She then stayed at home and raised their children until 1967 when she went to work at Delicious Foods in Grand Island. She started out as a receptionist and worked up to Vice President of Customer Service and Warehousing. She retired in 1991 and stayed home to manage her home.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and several Church Circles. She was a leader of a Girl Scout Troop for six years. She taught church school and worked with Methodist Women's Groups for many years. She loved to cook and loved to work in her flowers both at Johnson Lake and in Grand Island. She and Myron took many bus tours all over the United States. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of several gardening and women's groups.
She is survived by her husband Myron of Grand Island; one son, Lynn R. and wife Jeanne Berggren of Broken Bow; two daughters, Ann M. Gana of Kearney and Karen L. and husband Charles C. Plebanek of Grand Island. Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One sister, B. Joan Myers of Little Canada, Minnesota.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Edwin N and Frank H. Williams and a sister, Evalea Prather.
Vera F. Smith
Mrs. Vera F. Smith, age 87, a resident of Tiffany Square in Grand Island died Monday, October 11th, 2004 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Trinity United Methodist Church Gollaher Chapel with the Rev. Nancy Lambert and Rev. Vernon Rice officiating. Burial will be at the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 3 to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born on January 23, 1917, at Doniphan to William and Ruth (Cole) Hostler. She grew up in the Doniphan and attended school at District #19 in Hall County.
She was united in marriage to Raymond A. Smith on July 23, 1946 at Grand Island. The couple lived in various towns from Omaha to North Platte as Mr. Smith was a Station Agent for the Union Pacific Rail Road. She worked at St. Francis Hospital, Wolbachs and Brandeis in various communities. The couple retired in 1977 and moved to Grand Island. They enjoyed extensive traveling during their retirement years. Mr. Smith died in May of 1991.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Union Pacific Old Timers, and National Old Timers. She was very active with the Grand Generation Center and did a lot of volunteering there. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by one brother; Bernard Hostler of Grand Island, three sisters; her twin sister Vina Bockerman of Hastings, Agnes Hostler of Grand Island and Marie Gartner of Grand Island. Also surviving are ten nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Smith; three sisters, Mamie, Elnora, and Mabel; and four brothers, Carl, Thomas, John, and Glenn.

Grace Caroline Kraft, 91, Grand Island, Nebraska died Wednesday, October 6, 2004h, 2004 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. Joel Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation hours will be Friday, 3-9 with family receiving friends from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home . Memorials are suggested to Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

Mrs. Kraft was born in Cedar Rapids, Nebraka on July 10, 1913, the daughter of Charles and Etta (Schulte) Fisher. She was raised on a farm near Cedar Rapids. She attended school in Cedar Rapids where she was also baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church. Grace was united in marriage to Philip Kraft on June 10, 1932. They farmend in Nebraska's Greeley and Boone counties. They later moved to Grand Island where she was employed at the Nebraska Veteran's Home for 22 years. She retired in 1986 and stayed at home to manage her house. She enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with her family, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons; Leroy and wife Rita Kraft, Phil Kraft Jr. and special friend Lorraine Onnen, Harvey and wife Shirley Kraft and Richard and wife Mary Kraft, all of Grand Island. Two daughters, Marie and husband Norman Pope of Omaha and Linda and husband Ed O'Neill of Lincoln. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Philip Kraft, two grandsons, Steve Pope and Greg Kraft, one brother and four sisters.
