U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

William Palmer

William Henry Palmer, son of William Eliher and Sarah Margaret Palmer, was born July 27, 1887 in Frontier County, Nebraska. He passed away October 14, 1964, at Gothenburg at the age of 77.

On April 6, 1910, he was united in marriage to Emma Louisa Griffis and to this union two children were born.

He was a farmer mostly in Frontier County for over fifty years. In 1955, he retired and moved to Farnam but his interest in farm problems and his convictions that a man should support the community in which he lived, continued to the day of his death.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Evelyn, who died in infancy and by his wife, who died in 1959. He is survived by his son Wayne C. Palmer of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Raleigh Palmer of Ogalalla, Nebr., two sisters, Elva, Mrs. Harry Roberts of Englewood, Colo., and Mrs. Sadie Lintz of Ogden, Utah; two grandchildren, Jean, Mrs. Walter E. Yergen and Martin D. Palmer both of Washington D. C. and 1 great granddaughter.

Lena Cornelia Peirsol

Lena Cornelia Peirsol, the daughter of George and Gertrude Peirsol, was born Dec. 20, 1901, at Orafino and died Feb. 23, 1981, at Cozad at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 3 days.

She spent most of her life around the Orafino and Farnam communities. Much of her lifetime was spent caring for others. After the death of her mother, she cared for her younger brothers and sisters for several years. After moving to Farnam, she worked and cared for elderly people in their homes.

Feb. 12, 1981, she went to Southview Manor Nursing Home in Cozad, where she died ten days later.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Cecil and Elvin.

Survivors are two sisters, Lucille Crisman of Farnam and Dolly Aylsworth of Nampa, Ida.; one brother, Vernon Peirsol of Columbus, Ohio; two nieces; one nephew; and other relatives and friends.

Services were held Feb. 26 at the Methodist Church at Farnam with Pastor Karl Lent officiating. Music was provided by organist, Donna Hazen.

Pallbearers were Elvin Gardner, Tracy Gardner, Bart Peirsol, Clyde Kotschwar, Donald Walters and Lloyd Hopkins. Interment was in the Farnam Cemetery, with McVay Memorial Chapel in charge.

Horace H. Fitch

Horace Hannable Fitch, 98, of Maxwell died Sept. 21, 1998, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 31, 1900, to Jessie H. and Alice M. Phillips Fitch in Farnum.

He attended school at Dickens and then pursued Business school in Grand Island, after which he ranched five miles southeast of Dickens.

Mr. Fitch married Eldora Brink on May 1, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 1981. He then married Florence Smith on March 31, 1982.

In 1976, he relocated to Maxwell after living in the Dickens area for 66 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Dickens. He enjoyed music and played numerous musical instruments, traveled overseas, owned and operated his own airplane, fished and hunted, and he fished in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Survivors include his wife; two step-daughters, Phyllis (Jerry) Mead of Denver and Rosalie (Alan) Frost of Colorado Springs; two step-sons, Buster (Donna) Smith of Glenwood Springs, Colo. and Roy (Conna) Smith of Denver; two sisters, Lavonne Miller of Hershey and Genieve Guenthner of Lorton, Va; three grandchildren, Sandra (Augustine) Chengsut of Portland, Or, Henry H. (Kay) Fitch of West Lynn, Or. and Terry L. (Cindi) Fitch of Maxwell; four great-grandchildren, Jason and Eric Nall and Shawn and Sarah Fitch; 3 great-great-grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren and a step-great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his a son, Milton, his parents, a sister and two brothers.

Jeremy W. Fritz

Jeremy W. Fritz, 19, of Farnam, died July 25, 1997, as a result of an automobile accident north of Stockville.

He was born August 28, 1977, at Englewood, Colorado to Terry and Vicki Minges Fritz. He was a 1996 graduate of Farnam High School and a member of the Farnam Methodist Church.

He is survived by his parents and a brother, Joshua, of Farnam; grandparents, Earl and Jean Fritz of North Platte; grandparents, Bill and Shirley Minges of Indianapolis, Indiana; and great-grandmother, Helen Olmstead of Sacramento, California.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at the Farnam High School. The Rev. Eugene Beye officiated.

Burial was in the Farnam Cemetery.

Gladys Gaibler

Gladys Elizabeth Velte Gaibler was born at Farnam on Feb. 15, 1906, daughter of Carl and Myrtle Velte, and passed away on Sept. 24, 1969.

She was baptized at an early age at the Congregational church in Farnam and received her religious instruction at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis. She was graduated from Farnam High School in 1924 and taught school for five years in that community. She was a devoted wife and mother, and was active in community projects and church.

On May 28, 1928, she was united in marriage to Fred C. Gaibler and they have since made their home east of Farnam. To the union were born four daughters and one son.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Fred; four daughters: Phyllis, Mrs. Paul Trosper of Gothenburg, Glenice, Mrs. Kenny Discoe of McCook, Janice, Mrs. Dwight Crewdson of Lincoln, Yvonne Moore of Reno Nevada, and her son, Dennis of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren; three sisters: Florence, Mrs. B.R. Spearman of Lincoln, Helen, Mrs. Bert Farmer of Terril, Iowa, and Anna, Mrs. Ove Prestegard of Granite Falls, Minn., one brother, Gaylord of Brule, Nebr., her many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Services were held Saturday afternoon in St. John's Lutheran Church of Eustis with Rev. A. H. Roesener officiating. Music was furnished by St. John's Mixed Octette, accompanied by pianist Mrs. Kent Davis.

George K. Duis

George K. Duis, 85, of Gothenburg, died Dec. 8, 1998, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital - Long Term

He was born June 14, 1913, at Farnam to Frank and Dena Rossendahl Duis

He farmed northwest of Gothenburg for many years with his brother Frank

Survivors include a sister, Grace Knoedler of Cozad; two nieces and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Tena Cumpston, and a brother, Frank.

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Blase Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg. Burial will be in the Farnam Cemetery.
