Kenneth W. White
Kenneth W. White, 81, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, March 29, 2006 on the family farm east of Sutherland, Neb., with his wife of 55 years, Lorraine, and his family by his bedside.
He was born April 28, 1924 in Suther-land. Kenneth was the second son of Charles R. and Eva (Cox) White.
Kenneth graduated from Suther-land High School in 1942. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy, served at Hickam Field in Hawaii as an aviation machinist, and received an honorable discharge in June of 1946.
He returned home to Sutherland and worked at his father's store, Charles R. White Hardware. Later they formed Charles R. White and Son and operated a farm and livestock business until 1975.
During the late 1970s Kenneth worked for Austin Power and operated machinery during the construction of the Gerald Gentleman Power Station. After completion of the power station he worked for the Lincoln County Department of Roads until his retirement in 1991.
Kenneth married Lorraine D. Moser in LaSalle, Colo., on Oct. 15, 1950, and they had two children, James Kenton White and Susan Marie White. Kenneth and Lorraine raised Jim and Susan on the farm they loved and on which both continued to reside.
Kenneth was an outdoorsman who loved his family, dogs, ranching, hunting, Canadian fishing trips, and rodeos.
He was a 65 year member of the Sutherland Presbyterian Church and served on various committees. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Tehama Shrine, and a 60-year member of the American Legion.
He was always involved in his community. He served on the church board, Natural Resource District, Sutherland School Board, and hospital board. He was also a volunteer fireman for many years and gave his fellow firemen a thrill every time he drove the fire truck.
Kenneth was a true western gentleman, always available to his friends and neighbors with a smile and a helping hand. He was very proud of his children and dearly loved his granddaughters Eva and Atlee.
Kenneth shared many lifelong friendships. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his son, Jim, and his many good friends.
In addition to his wife, Lorraine, Kenneth is survived by son Jim and his wife Roxanne and daughter Eva of Baytown, Texas; daughter Susan and her husband J.R. Witt and daughter Atlee of Denver; sister LaVonne Meyers of Chicago; sister-in-law Nelda White of Kansas City, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Marvin.
Memorials in his honor may be made to the Sutherland Presbyterian Church; the Callahan Regional Cancer Center in North Platte; or the Sutherland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. Condolences may also be sent online to www.adamsswanson.com
Services were held Monday, April 3, 2006 at the Presbyterian Church in Sutherland with the Reverend Del Cunningham officiating. Inurnment was at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors.

Isabel Bolton
Isabel Bolton was born on Dec. 21, 1911 in Perkins County, southwest of Madrid, Neb. She was the second of six children born to Howard and Zata Smith Bechtel. She grew up on the Bechtel farm attending rural school at District 66. She attended Perkins County High School in Grant, Neb., and graduated in 1931.
Isabel was married to Carl E. Bolton on Nov. 15, 1931 at the Madrid Methodist Church. Three sons were born to this union. Carl died in 1935, leaving Isabel three young boys to raise during the depression years.
Isabel earned money by taking in washing and ironing as well as working at local bakeries and restaurants while her boys were young.
In the mid 1940s she owned and operated a cafe in Grant. She baked for Hokes Cafe in Ogallala. Isabel cooked for a sorority house at UNL for three years and during that period she cooked at the Nebraska Diabetic Camp in Nebraska City during the summers. One summer she cooked at the Rahwa Dude Ranch in Colorado and had an offer to move to California to cook for a celebrity but chose to stay home in Nebraska.
Taking care of her parents in later years, Isabel turned to knitting, sewing and cake decorating. She enjoyed the many pictures she had with her clients for baking cakes for special occasions.
She moved to Crete, Neb., in 1988 to be closer to her son Charles and his family. She eventually moved to the Friend Manor in Friend, Neb., where she died early Wednesday morning, March 29, 2006. She had reached the age of 94.
Isabel was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She was also a Gold Star Sister with the American Legion Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents and husband, Isabel was preceded in death by her youngest son, Lloyd; two brothers, Arthur and James (who was killed in WWII); and a sister-in-law, Ruth Bechtel.
She is survived by two sons, Carl and wife Karen Bolton of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Charles and wife Kathryn Bolton of Dorchester, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Virginia Bolton of Kingman, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Hetrick of Lincoln, Neb.; two brothers, Jack of Beaver Crossing, Neb., and Guy and wife Bonnie of Ogallala; other relatives and friends.
Services for Isabel were held Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant with Pastor Sally Ruggia-Haden officiating.
Casket bearers were Charles Bolton, Mathew Bolton, Mike Bolton, Roger Slepicka, Dustin Slepicka and Nathan Slepicka.
Interment was in the Grant Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Aileen Bartmess
Aileen Bartmess was born on Oct. 1, 1923 at Sutherland, Neb. She was the oldest of three children born to Ralph E. and Carrie Ferrell Cowles. Aileen grew up in Wallace, Neb., and graduated from Wallace High School in 1940. After graduation she attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., for a semester before transferring to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
Aileen was married to Kenneth Bartmess on April 2, 1942. One daughter, Kandy, was born to this union.
They lived for a brief time in Wallace before moving to the Ferrell farmstead five miles south of Wallace where Aileen lived for the rest of her life.
In addition to their farming operation, Kenneth and Aileen managed the Diamond S Ranch. In 1975 they purchased the Ferrell farm and in 1984 they received the Nebraska Pioneer and Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer farm award for 100 years of continuous ownership within the same family.
Aileen continued to maintain her home and garden after Kenneth died in 1994. She developed a series of health problems last fall and had open heart surgery in Lincoln in January of this year. She had been at the Madonna Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln and was transferred to St. Elizabeth Hospital where she died Tuesday night, March 21, 2006. She had reached the age of 82.
Aileen was a longtime member of the Wallace United Methodist Church. She had been a past member of the Nebraska CattleWomen and the Harmony Home Extension Club. She also supported the Lindenwood College and University of Nebraska Alumni Associations.
In addition to her parents and husband, Aileen was preceded in death by her daughter, Kandy Ogier, who died in 1973 and her sister, Shirley Adams, in 1974.
She is survived by her grandson, Kenny and wife Tiffany Ogier of rural Wallace and their children, Shelby Lynn and Nathan Wesley Ogier; her brother, Ralph F. and wife June Cowles of Greeley, Colo.; and her brother-in-law, Duane Adams of Arlington, Texas; other relatives and friends.
Services were held Saturday, March 25, at the Wallace United Methodist Church in Wallace with Pastor Jurdan Counts officiating. Music was provided by Bill Arnett and Dixie Colson.
Casket bearers were Mark Franklin, Monte Sheffield, Kurt Franklin, Larry Fear, Tim Lundvall and Mitch Scott.
Honorary escorts were Tom Mathiesen, Larry Gibson, LeRoy Griffiths, Kenneth Strawder, Kenneth Erickson, Jerry Erickson, Bob Fear and Niles Simmons.
Interment was in the Wallace Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Dorthy I. Tines
Dorthy I. Tines, age 82, was born north of Cambridge, Neb., on Aug. 8, 1923 to Charles and Maude (Campbell) Pickel. She attended Cambridge Schools. On Sept. 29, 1941, she was united in marriage to Raymond "Shorty" Tines. He preceded her in death in November of 1997. The couple made their home on the family farm east of Bartley. To this union seven children were born.
Dorthy and "Shorty" retired from the farm in 1995 and moved to Parkside Manor in Cambridge. She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the altar society. Dorthy loved to "travel" to places with her sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband "Shorty" Tines, and sister, Faye Balcolm.
Dorthy is survived by her three daughters, Cecilia and husband Ron Neseth of Grand Island, Neb., Beth Ann and husband Greg Macy of Lebanon, Neb., and Martha Roe of McCook, Neb.; four sons, Ed and wife Sharon Tines of Cambridge, Neb., Chuck and wife Barb A. Tines, William "Dude" and wife Alice Tines and Tom and wife Barb F. Tines, all of Venango, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Ruth Warnock of Cambridge.
Rosary was recited at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary on Friday, March 24. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John's Catholic Church in Cambridge on Saturday, March 25, with Father Witt officiating. Burial was in the Bartley Cemetery at Bartley, Neb.
Memorials may be left in Dorthy's name or to the New Bartley Cemetery Directory at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary, Cambridge, Neb.

Dorothy Newth
Dorothy Eloise (Cox) Newth was born in Grant, Neb. on Dec. 9, 1924 to Elmer and Nettie (Francis) Cox. She was one of seven children. Dorothy died Friday, March 24, 2006 in Haxtun, Colo.
Dorothy attended school in Grant, Neb., where she graduated. She worked as a teenager at the movie theater until she married Henry Newth Oct. 21, 1942.
They made their home on a farm 16 miles north of Holyoke, Colo., where they lived until 1968. At that time they moved three miles west of Holyoke and then to Haxtun in August of 1996, where she resided until her death.
Dorothy was a member of the Methodist Church, the American Auxiliary in Venango, Neb., the Farmers Union and the Farmerettes Club.
In 1966 Dorothy went to work at Shop All in Holyoke until she retired.
Dorothy loved people and enjoyed "gabbing." Henry and Dorothy spent many enjoyable times dancing and traveling. Dorothy loved all the school activities, especially the plays and sports. The Cornhuskers football team was her favorite.
Dorothy is survived by her children Byron and Janet Newth of Evans, Colo., Tamma Newth of Ashland, Neb., Nancy and Charlie Zwirn of Sterling, Colo., and Bill and Claudia Newth of Holyoke; grandchildren Darla, Jason, Jennifer, Michael, Adrienne, Devin, Kim and Kathy; step-grandchildren Tammy, Renee, Melissa and Brad; 13 great-grandchildren; dear friend Sierra Gartin of Texas; one brother, Burdette Cox and sisters Jane Nyberg and Shirley Henthorn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Newth; her parents; two brothers, Eugene and Floyd; and two sisters, Kathryn Ivers and Lorrie Cox.
Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Dorothy to the Haxtun United Methodist Church or the Haxtun Hospital Nursing Staff c/o Bill Newth, 749 E. Jules, Holyoke, CO 80734.
Gerk Funeral Home of Haxtun was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 28, 2006 in the Haxtun United Methodist Church, with Pastor Keith Hudiburgh officiating. Dorothy's final resting place will be in the arms of her loving family.

Garold A. Hinrichs
Garold A. Hinrichs was born Sept. 26, 1947 in Sutherland, Neb., to Harold and Margaret (Harms) Hinrichs.
Garold was baptized at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Brule, Neb., and confirmed as an adult at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Northglenn, Colo.
Garold attended schools in Sterling, Colo., Ogallala, Neb., Englewood, Colo., and graduated from Perkins County High School in Grant, Neb., in 1965.
Garold enlisted in the Navy on Jan. 24, 1967, took his basic training in San Diego, Calif., and was assigned to an aircraft carrier, the USS Constellation CVA-64. He served on board in Vietnam in 1967, 1968, and 1969. Also, during this time he was sent to Lakehurst, N.J., for additional training in aviation fuels.
After the service he worked as an auto body man at Kohl Motors, had his own shop, the Coach House in Brule, was an operator at the Navaho generation station in Page, Ariz., and then returned to Nebraska where he again worked for Kohl's Body Shop. He had a passion for working on collector vehicles.
Garold is survived by three sons: Pete Georges of Omaha, Jarret Hinrichs of Texas, and Christopher Hinrichs of North Platte, Neb.; five grandsons, his step-mother LeeAnn Hinrichs of Brule, two brothers, Bert Hinrichs and wife Wendy of Centennial, Colo., and Cecil Hinrichs and wife Lynda of Brule; two sisters, S. Gayle Mercer and husband Bob of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Gayle Ann Hinrichs of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two aunts, Leona Armstrong of Big Springs, Neb., and Valera Parke and husband Don of Northglenn, Colo., many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Bart Doughty and his grandparents.
Services were held Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Brule with Reverend Robert Miskimen officiating. His ashes will be scattered at the farm at a private family gathering at a later date.

Harold Hampton
Harold "Sonny" Hampton age 73, longtime Ogallala, Neb., businessman, died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Neb.
Harold was born Sept. 29, 1932 in Anthon, Iowa toWayren "Wayne" and Velma Huffman Hampton. He was raised in the southern Missouri and the Madrid and Ogallala areas of Nebraska. He attended school in Missouri and in Ogallala.
As a young man Sonny started in the construction business working for his father and uncles. The next few years he worked for the Peter Kiewit organization at various locations. He was in charge of the heavy equipment and specialized in the operation of draglines. He later became a bridge foreman.
On Oct. 19, 1961 Sonny married Marilyn C. Conrey in Ogallala. They made their first home in Grand Island, Neb., where he worked for Diamond Engineering.
In 1963 they moved to Ogallala where he and his father entered into business, namely Wayne Hampton and Son. Sonny formed his own company in 1964, now known as Hampton Construction, Inc.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed dancing and his favorite dance tune was Glenn Camp-bell's "Southern Nights." He was well known as a storyteller and loved to pencil sketch and use water-colors.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harold was a lifetime member of the Ogallala Elks Lodge 1760.
Survivors include his wife of almost 45 years, Marilyn Hampton of Ogallala, one son John and wife Tracey Hampton of Parker, Colo.; two daughters Julie Hampton of Ogallala and special friend Bruce Forrester of Arnold, Neb., Judie and husband Bruce Kramer of Tryon, Neb.; one sister Betty and husband George Lee Jr. of Elsie, Neb.; brother-in-law Tom Conrey of Charleston, S.C.; six grandchildren, Morgan and Christopher Hampton of Parker, Colo., Samantha, Emily, Allison and Tommy Kramer of Tryon.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala with Rev. Kelo Kaleuati officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala was in charge of arrangements.

Richard Rood
Richard Rood, age 63, of Grand Island, Neb., formerly of Broken Bow, Neb., died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Richard was born April 25, 1942 to Oscar Gale and Christina V. (Slauter) Rood at St. Louis, Mo. Richard served in the United States Navy from April of 1962 to January of 1967.
Richard drove a delivery truck for Frito Lays chips for many years, and later worked at Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow.
Richard enjoyed fishing and watching boxing events.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by two sisters, Diana and husband Duane Dankof of Nebraska City, Neb., and Joyce and husband Lynn Cook of Elsie, Neb.; one brother, Vernon and wife Margaret Rood of Omaha, Neb.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Richard were held Saturday, March 18, in Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Minister Kathy Salts officiating. Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.
