U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Roger McCannon
Roger McCannon was born on July 14, 1962 in Denver, Colo. He was the fifth of seven children born to Raymond and Helen Paine McCannon. He lived in Denver until 1978 when he moved to Amherst, Colo.
Roger attended school through the 11th grade in Holyoke, Colo., when he quit to join the United States Army. He was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kan. for three and a half years and then spent six months in Germany before his honorable discharge.
He returned to Amherst and moved to Denver in 1988.
In Denver he met his girlfriend Chris Spitz.
He completed his G.E.D. and then attended Parks College where he received an associates art degree in computer science.
Roger moved to Venango in 2000 and to Grant in 2002. He worked for B & J's 66 convenience store in Grant, Bill Summers car dealership in Ogallala and had started work for T.O. Haas Tire in Imperial, Neb., the first of the summer. He died at T.O. Haas Tire Saturday morning, July 15, as the result of a tire explosion. He had just turned 44 years old.
Roger was a member of the Handy Man Tool Club. He always enjoyed his family, especially his daughter, and enjoyed following all of her activities.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one brother, Phillip.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Chris Spitz of Grant; his daughter, Danielle McCannon, of Grant; his mother, Helen Einspahr of Venango; his father, Raymond McCannon of Stacy, Minn.; two brothers, Mark of Imperial and Hal and wife, Mary, of Englewood, Colo.; three sisters, Darla, and husband, Preston Case, of Ft. Collins, Colo., Frostteana Elmquist and Lisa Einspahr, both of Amherst, Colo.; half-brother Sean McCannon of Omaha; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
His body was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the Venango Community Church with Pastor Kevin Hausman, officiating.
Burial of cremains will be held in the Venango Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

April Redfield
April Rose Redfield of McCook died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln as a result of a car accident. She was 22 years old.
She was born May 15, 1984 in Grant to Mark Eugene and Heather Rose (Gobble) Hamilton. She grew up and attended school in McCook.
April married Chancelor "Chance" Redfield in McCook on June 11, 2005. To this union two daughters were born.
She was a homemaker and busy mother. She loved playing with her children; scrapbooking, photography and playing pool with her sister Shanna.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Rodney Hamilton, Lois (Hamilton) O'Neil and husband Marvin O'Neil; great-grandparents, Shorty and Mary Hamilton and great-grandmother, Rose Hardy.
Survivors include her husband Chance and two daughters, Aliyah Rose and Kelsey Lea of McCook; her parents, Mark Hamilton of Wauneta, Marci Hamilton of Palisade and Heather and Paul Younger of McCook; four sisters, Shanna Hamilton of Wauneta, Chynna Younger of McCook, Tasha Hamilton and Alexandria Hamilton, both of Wauneta; two brothers, Kyle Lambert of Oxford and Gregory Younger of McCook; grandparents, Donna and Roger Miller of McCook and Larry and Linda Gobble of Mt. Home, Ark.; aunts and uncles Rodger and Marla Hamilton of Imperial and Lynn and Char Hamilton of Hayes Center, Teresa and Brian Thomas of McCook, David and Theresa Gobble of Lakewood, Colo., Jennifer and Jim Bartlett of Brighton, Colo. and special aunt and Godmother, Amy and Dustin Limbach of Kearney.
Memorials may be given in her name and left at the funeral home where you may sign her book. Friends and family may also go on-line at www.carpenterbreland. com and leave condolences.
Her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.

Sarah Wyman
Sarah Wyman was born in Perkins County, northwest of Grant, Neb., on Oct. 16, 1905. She was the fourth of six children born to Joseph and Eva Jane Hoffman Stivers.
Sarah grew up on the farm and attended country school through the eighth grade.
She was married to Albert "Bud" Wyman on Oct. 2, 1929 at Holyoke, Colo.
They made their home in Grant until 1958 when they purchased the Imperial Bowling Alley. They operated the bowling alley until 1979 when they retired.
Bud died in 1990 and Sarah moved to Westview Retirement Center in Grant in 1993. She moved to Golden Ours Convalescent Home in 2000, where she died on Monday morning, July 3, 2006. She had reached the age of 100.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sarah was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Joe, and Glen Stivers; two sisters, Hazel Needham and Jenny Engel; one son, Larry Wyman, who died in February of 2006.
She is survived by one son, Marvin and wife Ellie Wyman of San Diego, Calif. and one daughter-in-law, Dorothy "Dottie" Wyman of University Place, Wash.; four grandchildren, Lori and Jeff Wyman of San Diego, Calif., Nancy Blasingame of Atlanta, Ga. and Russell Wyman of Gig Harbor, Wash.; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Services were held Friday, July 7, 2006 at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home Chapel in Grant, Neb., with Pastor John Keener officiating. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery.
Music was provided by Dolores Sexson and Cheryl Russell.
Casketbearers were Lori Wyman, Jeff Wyman, Russell Wyman, Nancy Blasingame, Robert Bounds and Jordan Mahnken.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Owen Jones
Memorial services for Owen Jones, age 84, who died on May 24 at Imperial, Neb., will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Haden officiating.
Cremains will be buried in the Grant cemetery with a flag presentation by the Perkins County Veterans.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services Friday for longtime Wauneta business owner Kent Steckman
Funeral services will be held Friday for longtime Wauneta business owner Stanley "Kent" Steckman, 52, who died of natural causes at his home in Wauneta Monday morning, July 10.
Steckman, a native of Wauneta, followed in the path of his parents, Cecil and Dorothy Steckman, when he returned to Wauneta in 1981 to join the family business, Crossroads C.B.S. Gas., Inc.
In 1983, Steckman and his wife, Karen, purchased the business.
In the fall of 1989, they began construction of a new facility along Highway 6 just across the street from their original location.
The facility was completed in May, 1990, and continues to serve the community.
Despite some health complications in recent years, Steckman continued to remain active in the business. His sister, Karen Fanning of Imperial, joined him as a partner in the operation two years ago.
Steckman was a longtime member of the Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department and also served on the Wauneta Village Board.
After his graduation from Kearney State College, he taught industrial arts and coached at Trumbull High School until returning to Wauneta in 1981.
He is survived by two sons, Jeff of Lincoln, and Christopher of Springfield, Ill.; brother Dr. Terry Steckman and wife, Judy, of Bend, Ore.; and sister Karen Fanning and husband, Mark, of Imperial; numerous nephews, nieces, other family and many friends.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta with burial following at the Riverside Cemetery.

Leo Weiss
Leo Francis Weiss was born Sept. 13, 1927, to Clayton and Mary Weiss at Imperial.
He passed away in Colorado Springs,Colo., on June 26, 2006.
Leo was married to Wanda Hannigan on March 29, 1951.
To this union were born four children Ronnie, Paula, Roxanne and Dirk.
Wanda passed away on Nov. 16, 1978.
Leo then married Delores Thomas on Feb. 13, 1982.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jim and Louie and sister Charlotte McNair.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Delores, children Ronnie, Paula, Roxanne and Dirk, stepchildren Lawrence, Darrell and Norman Thomas and Kathleen Davis, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers Irvin, Glen, Gerald and Bob Weiss and sister Mary Ann Stinnette.
Funeral services were held Friday at Colorado Springs, Colo.

Lynn C. Patton
Lynn C. Patton was born in Hastings, Neb. on Nov. 28, 1943, to Clara (Overturf) and Hubert A. Patton.
Lynn attended Hastings Public Schools, graduating from Hastings High School.
Following high school he attended classes at both the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Hastings College. He attended church at the First United Methodist Church in Hastings.
Lynn enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1965-1968. During this time he served in Vietnam.
Lynn's major employment interests were in the fields of agriculture and animal husbandry, and he was self-employed much of his lifetime, but he did also work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He had worked on different farms and ranches in Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming.
At the time of his death he was living at McCook and raising brood mares. He was employed part-time as a driver of a mail truck, making nightly runs between McCook and Sterling, Colo.
Lynn was a former Chase County resident.
Lynn passed away on June 22, 2006, near Sterling, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara (Overturf) Patton; his father, Hubert A. Patton; his step-mother, Mary Patton; a stepbrother, Glenn Smetter; and a brother-in-law, Robert Bantam.
Lynn leaves to mourn his passing a sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Carl Stafford of Haigler; two nieces; a nephew; and a grand- nephew; a step-sister, Janice Bantam of Oxford and her family; his special friend and confidant, Sharon Haarberg of McCook; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Lynn will be remembered by those whose lives he touched for his kindness and compassion and his willingness to help anyone who needed him. Lynn's desire was that his body be cremated and his ashes scattered on the Stafford Ranch in Chase County.
Services were Monday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with Dr. Deahl officiating.

Lillian R. Krutsinger
Lillian R. Krutsinger, a longtime resident of Parks, Neb. died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, Neb. at the age of 86.
She was born Sept. 10, 1919 in a farm home north of Haigler, Neb. to John and Bertha (Kinnett) Phifer and attended school near her home.
On Oct. 10, 1936, Lillian was united in marriage to Clarence LaVerne "Bus" Krutsinger, and to this union, four children were born.
Lillian was a fulltime wife and mother. She was an active member of the Haigler United Methodist Church and received her 50-year membership pin. She was also active in the United Methodist women and helped with Y-Teens, and played piano and organ for church and other special occasions for many years.
Most of her happy memories were of spending time with her loving family, music, cooking, sewing, gardening, family dinners and watching her grandkids. Her favorite pastime was playing the piano or organ.
Preceding her in death are her parents, John and Bertha Phifer; her husband, Clarence "Bus" Krutsinger; and brothers, Tom and Glen.
Survivors include her children: Marilyn Hust and husband, Byron, of Imperial, Neb., Ron Krutsinger and wife, Carol, of Norfolk, Neb., Garry Krutsinger of Parks, Neb. and Judy Krutsinger of McCook, Neb.; five grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Alba, of Benkelman, Neb.; brother-in-law, Jerry Krutsinger and wife, Louise, of Alliance, Neb.; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were Friday, June 16, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Haigler, Neb. with Rev. Brian Fong officiating.
Pianist was Carol Peterson and vocalist was Wes Hust.
Casketbearers were Jesse Krutsinger, Wes Hust, Josh Moreno, Lirin Yost, Gale Johnson, Erik Hagan, Michael Hagan, Josh Hust and Branden Yost.
Honorary casketbearers were all of Lillian's family and friends.
Interment followed at the Benkelman cemetery in Benkelman, Neb.
A memorial has been established in Lillian's memory.
Arrangements were by Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman.
