Douglas F. Pawloski
Former Hastings resident, Douglas F. Pawloski, 66, of Wahoo, Neb., died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Lincoln, Neb.
Mr. Pawloski was born Oct. 28, 1938 in Hastings, Neb. to Donald M. and Lorraine E. (Pierce) Pawloski.
He graduated from St. Cecilia's High School.
He worked for the Hastings Daily Tribune as circulation manager and then managed his father's sign company.
He later lived in Texas before moving to Wahoo, Neb.
Vigil service was held Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, 7 p.m. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Neb. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with Father Greg Pawloski officiating.
Burial was held in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Patrick.
Survivors include brothers and sisters-in-law, Father Greg Pawloski of Imperial, Neb., Michael and Cheryl Pawloski of Omaha, Neb., David and Cynthia Pawloski of Omaha, Neb.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dona and Kay DeNeal of Las Vegas, Nev., Janet and Dick Hyde of Omaha, Neb., Judy and Gary Prevette of Hastings, Neb., Mary and Gene Kohtz of Hastings, Neb., Pam and Felix Aldana of Hastings, Neb., Terri and Jack Willmes of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the family.

Marie Dettman
Marie Katherine Dettman was born on Nov. 9, 1903, at Chester, Neb. to Charles O. and Minnie J. (Morris) Briels.
Marie's mother died when Marie was very young and she was taken to Fleming, Colo. to live with relatives. She grew up and attended school in Fleming, graduating from Fleming High School in 1921.
On May 28 of that same year, Marie married
Fred Clinton Chamberlain in Fleming and to this union two children were born: a daughter, Roma June and a son, Ward C.
She attended Sterling College in 1923 and obtained a teaching certificate in which she used in Fleming, teaching second grade for several years.
Marie later moved to Imperial, Neb., where she was employed by the Telephone Company, as an operator, a position she held for many years. She married
Elmer Christopher Dettman in 1944, and the couple made their home in Imperial until retirement.
Marie passed away early Friday morning, Sept. 23, 2005, at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home, in Wauneta, Neb. She was 101 years of age.
Marie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Imperial. She had many hobbies including crocheting for family members, cooking and she especially loved to visit and play bridge.
Survivors include son Ward Chamberlain and wife Zella of Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren, Kathy Erzinger and husband Frank of Houston, Texas, Vicky Pettit and husband Don of Littleton, Colo., Scott Chamberlain and wife Lou Anne of Littleton, Colo.; seven great grandchildren, Alison, Stephanie, Scott and Steve Erzinger, Jeff, Lisa and Brian Chamberlain.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elm, daughter Roma June, brother Charles Briels and sister Leona Burns.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial with Pastor Kay Alnor officiating.
Soloist was Lisa Chamberlain.
Honorary casketbearers were Scott Erzinger, Jeffrey Chamberlain, Steven Erzinger and Brian Chamberlain.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Imperial Public Library.

Alyce Arterburn
Alyce Arterburn, age 80, of Imperial passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.
Services will be held Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Imperial.
Gerald 'Gary' Larreau
Gerald "Gary" D. Larreau, age 69, of Wauneta, Neb. died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb. on Sept. 21, 2005.
He was born on March 14, 1936 in Oberlin, Kan. to Charles and Ruby Larreau.
Gary attended school in Oberlin and McCook.
On July 30, 1953 he was united in marriage to LaDonna Kincaid. They survived 52 years together.
Gary became an apprentice bricklayer in the mid 50's continuing the profession all his life. He enjoyed buying selling and trading any kind of vehicle, especially Dodges. He was an avid story teller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Carol Larreau Brown and a granddaughter Shannon Marie; three brothers: French, Smiley and Dick; a sister; Ginni Speaker.
Gary is survived by his wife, LaDonna; three sons, Mark and wife Chris Larreau of Hastings, Joe of Texas and Brian of California; son-in-law Bob Brown; four grandchildren, Kristy, April, Adam and Shasha, all of Valentine; a sister, Gloria and husband Roger Messenger of McCook. Gary was loved by a host of nieces and nephews and cousins and will be missed by all.
Services were held at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Richard Karr.
Organist was Jackie Johnson.
Casketbearers were Lance Messenger, Craig Messenger, Shawn Yoder, Doug Highland, Dace Collins and Dave Gallington.
Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Cambridge.
Memorials may be left at the mortuary in Gary's name.

Herbert 'Hoot' Minick
Herbert Taft Minick was born on Jan. 15, 1909, at Pawnee, Okla. to John W. and Etta F. (Frost) Minick.
The family moved to Nebraska City, Neb., that same year, where they resided for a short time before moving to Dunbar, Neb.
In the fall of 1917, the family moved to a farm south of Champion, Neb.
In the spring of 1920, Hoot, moved with his parents back to southeast Nebraska, near Cook, where he attended school graduating from Cook High School, in 1927.
Hoot moved again with his parents in 1930, back to Champion, where he was engaged in farming, paint contracting and working as a musician.
He enlisted in the Navy C.B.'s in 1942 and served in the Pacific during WWII. Hoot was discharged in November of 1945 and returned to the Champion area, where he continued to farm and by passing his Nebraska State Barber Board Examination, worked as a barber owning his own shop. During this time, Hoot, also became a licensed pilot and purchased the first spray equipment in Chase County.
On Oct. 1, 1947, Hoot married
Edith O. (Baldwin) Taylor, in Imperial and the couple settled in Champion before moving to Imperial in 1966.
Hoot and Edith moved to Enid, Okla. in 1970 where Hoot dabbled in real estate but was mostly retired. The couple then returned to Imperial in 1991, where they have made their home since.
Hoot passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 20, 2005, at the Chase County Community Hospital. He was 96 years of age.
Hoot was a member of the United Methodist Church of Imperial, was a charter member of VFW Post #4688, serving as a commander. He also served as commander of District 5.
He loved music playing the piano, sax, clarinet, trumpet, banjo and drums. He was also the orchestra and choir director for the senior citizens center.
He served as a State Barber Inspector for two years.
Hoot was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters Anna, Grace, Esther and Letita and brother Robert.
Survivors include wife Edith of Imperial, Neb.; local niece Jean Johnson and husband Richard of Imperial, Neb.; nephew Ray Baldwin and wife Doris of Hudson, Colo.; four step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and one step great, great grandchild.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Herbert Minick
Herbert"Hoot" Minick, longtime resident of the Imperial area, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 20, 2005, at the Chase County Community Hospital. He was 96 years of age.
Survivors include wife, Edith of Imperial; local niece, Jean Johnson and husband, Richard of Imperial; four step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are pending.

Arlene Fitzwater
Arlene Jenny Comp was born July 10, 1911 at Delmont, S.D., the daughter of Lewis Park and Ruby Maude (Jenney) Comp, and went to her heavenly reward on Sept. 15, 2005 at the Indian Hills Manor Nursing Home in Ogallala.
Arlene grew up in South Dakota with three sisters and two brothers.
She graduated from high school in the class of 1930. She then went on to the University of Nebraska where she graduated on June 4, 1934 with a degree in nursing.
She married
Ross Frank Goddard on April 12, 1936. The couple adopted a daughter, Cheryl Ruby and a son, Collyn Ross and later Marvin Eugene.
Arlene was baptized on Oct. 4, 1936 into the R.L.D.S. Church now known as the Community Church of Christ.
The family lived on a farm near Champion, Neb. until 1954 when they moved to Lexington. In 1957 they moved to Benkelman to make their home.
During all these years Arlene was dedicated to her nursing career working long hours at area hospitals and later at the nursing home in Benkelman until her retirement at the young age of 72. Even after her retirement she kept her nursing license current and would take blood pressures at the Senior Centers for the elderly. She was truly dedicated to her nursing career.
After the passing of her husband, Ross Goddard, she married
Harold Fitzwater. They enjoyed many good years together living in both Benkelman and Ogallala.
Arlene will be remembered for her devotion to nursing and her positive outlook on life. She will be deeply missed by all she touched.
Survivors include two sons, Collyn and wife, Melinda Goddard of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Marvin Goddard of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters and one brother, Kathryn Cole, Marie Gregory and Perry and wife Patty Comp, all of S.D.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held on Sept. 19 at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with Jim Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Mount Hope cemetery in Imperial.
