Donald Bird
Donald Bird ,86, the son of Lester and Margaret Thompson Bird was born May 8, 1931 in Lincoln County Kansas near Denmark. He died Friday at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Neb.
Don attended grade school at Chase, Kan., and later attended Hunter High School at Hunter, Kan.. In 1946 Don moved with his family from Ash Grove to a farm north of Esbon.
On June 15, 1952, Don was united in marriage to Loreen Faye Figgins at the home of her parents. The couple moved to Plainville where Don worked for Baroid Division as a drilling engineer and manager until 1960. Don and Loreen then moved back to Esbon and farmed. They moved south of Red Cloud, in 1962 which is where they have remained and made their home.
Don started his own business in 1975 and sold farm lubricants and structural rod and pipe until 2000.
In 1999 Don and Loreen began working for the Corps of Engineers park attendants which they did for more than 17 years.
In 1965 Don and Loreen adopted three children: Theresa Ann, John Bradley and Mary Angelia. Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, his family was his pride and joy.
Don was always active and busy, he never met a stranger and liked meeting new people. They enjoyed square dancing and going to the lake whenever possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry and Robert Bird; and a grandson Brent Small.
Survivors include his wife, Loreen Bird, daughters Mrs. Brad Small (Theresa) of LaVista, Neb., and Mrs. Ray Morrison ( Mary) of Bradenton, Fla.;a son,John Bird, of Ogallala, Neb.; a brother, Delbert Bird of Esbon; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
His funeral was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel at Red Cloud. Pastor Laura Fricker officiated. Burial was in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Kay Triplett
Kay Triplett, 61, of Superior died Jan 8. She was born May 6, 1956 at Steele City.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Triplett of Superior; stepfather, Richard Anderson; daughter, Tasha Triplett of Guide Rock; and grandson, Devon Triplett of Guide Rock.
Her funeral was held Jan. 27, at a Fairbury funeral home.

Alan Czirr
Alan Raymond Czirr of Superior, Neb., the son of Walter and Mabel (Bucknell) Czirr was born on May 17, 1938, in Hardy Neb. He died on Dec. 27, 2017, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Neb., at the age of 79 years.
He married
Pat Sloan on June 16, 1961, and they had one son, David. He is survived by his wife of 56 years; his son; his sister, Irene Dunbar; sister-in-law, Doris Alexander; sister-in-law, Bev Czirr; nephews, Wade, Wes, Wray, Wiley and Wynn Alexander, and Jerry, Dale and Ron Dunbar; and nieces, Paula and Genelle Czirr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Evan; brother-in-law, Loren Dunbar; and brother-in-law, Newell Alexander.
He was a graduate of Hardy High School with the Class of 1956. Alan was fiercely proud of his Hardy roots and some of his favorite times were the annual alumni banquets. He served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1961 to 1970, attaining the rank of chief warrant officer. He spent one year on active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961.
Alan began his life long career in the auto industry while in high school working for Jerome Kohl at his garage in Hardy. In 1957 he began working at Superior Motor Parts in Superior. In 1959 he moved to Mankato, Kan., to manage the new Motor Parts store. He moved to Superior in 1973 to take over management of all the Superior Motor Stores in Superior and Fairbury, Neb., and Mankato and Washington, Kan. In 1987 he purchased the stores from Don Kronberg; he closed the out of town stores and continued to run the store in Superior until his retirement in 2002.
Alan enjoyed many leisure activities. He bowled on a league in Superior for many years and was a member of Superior Country Club for more than 40 years. He was awarded a lifetime membership by the country club in 2015. He was a master gardener, growing potatoes, tomatoes and cucumbers that could have filled a semi-trailer. His golfing buddies could always count on a weekly sack of garden goodies during the growing season except for one year. In 2003 he tried a new weed control method on the potatoes that came to be known as "Round-up Potatoes." The entire crop was ruined but he learned his lesson and continued to grow potatoes for another 10 years.
Alan was a member of the Elks Club, chamber of commerce and the Kiwanis Club. He served as the chamber and Kiwanis president and was appointed to the city zoning commission by Superior Mayor, O.K. Stone.
Honorary pallbearers are Spider Hiatt, Dave Brainard, Clarence Dove, Ed Rempe, Ron Peterson, Wiley Alexander, Wynn Alexander, Jerry Dunbar, Jeff Guilkey and Jeff Hutchison.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert Leibel and the wonderful staff at Brodstone Memorial Hospital for their care over the years. Additionally we would like to thank all of the employees of Superior Motor Parts over the years. Mike Fenimore and Eldon Thompson deserve special recognition for their years of dedicated service. Lastly, we would like to thank Jeff and Sue Guilkey for being such terrific neighbors.
Memorial services were held Saturday, 1:30 p.m., Dec. 30., 2017, at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Neb., with Pastor Jon Albrecht officiating. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. If unable to attend the memorial services, friends and relatives are encouraged to greet the Czirr family immediately following the memorial service at the Superior Country Club. Charles Hollerich
Charles "Charlie" Joseph Hollerich, 84, died last Saturday at the Mitchell County Hospital Resident Care Center. He was born on the family farm north of Tipton on June 22, 1933, the son of Joseph and Monica Gasper Hollerich.
Charles attended Tipton School and graduated in 1951. He married
Wilma Senesac Dec. 29, 1959, at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Damar. To this union eight children were born. Charles and Wilma established dairy farm three miles north of Tipton and milked cows from 1964 to1995. They also raised cattle and crops from 1959 until they retired from farming in 2006. Charles delivered El Dorado motor homes and buses from the early 1980s until 2011. He was a Knights of Columbus insurance agent from 1988 to1998.
He was preceded in death by parents; and siblings, Katherine Schuetz, Lou Ann Dillner and Carol Kline.
Charles is survived by his wife, Wilma Hollerich, Tipton; children, Robert Hollerich, Jeffrey Hollerich and Patricia Darnell, all of Tipton; Phyllis Meyer, Andale; Jean Brummer, Cawker City; Charles Hollerich, Jr., Tampa, Fla.; Sandra Jirak of Udall; Krista Russell, Manhattan; 33 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Virginia Mullins, Beatrice Long, Marcena Keating, Harold Hollerich, Kenneth Hollerich and Joseph Hollerich.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Saint Boniface Catholic Church, Tipton Friday, at 10 a.m. with celebrants Father Daryl Olmstead, Father Joseph Asirvatham and Father John Jirak. Interment followed in Saint Boniface Cemetery, Tipton. Arrangements were made by Roberts Family Funeral Service.

David Brazil
David Leon Brazil, the son of Larry Herbert Brazil and Frances "Feetzie" Kay (Bargen) Brazil was born Sept. 26, 1966, at Superior, Neb. David died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior at the age of 51 years, 3 months and 2 days.
David was baptized Jan. 15, 1967, at Centennial Lutheran Church by Pastor Leege and confirmed on May 4, 1980, at Centennial Lutheran Church by Pastor Theiss. David was a 1984 graduate of Superior High School and went on to attend Kearney State College. He served in the United States Army National Guard from May of 1987 to March of 1990.
Throughout his life, David lived in Superior, Fairbury and Kearney. As a young boy many hours were spent with the neighborhood kids the Waddles, the Bakers and the Turners playing tennis, swimming at the pool, playing catch and once it got dark, playing kick the can. In high school, he participated in football, basketball, and track. He liked to play golf in his spare time and was devoted Husker football fan.
He attended Kearney State College and played the center position on the Loper football team. His major was pre-pharmacy. He joined the National Guard while he was in college. His basic training was at Ft Knox, Ky., where he was a member of the 50 Mile Club and awarded the Outstanding Soldier Award.
Jobs David worked included delivering the newspaper, mowing yards and mowing at the golf course. He was also employed by Scott TV and Appliance and the City of Superior. During college he worked as a press operator and bartender.
David was injured in a car accident in August, 1989. He was cared for by many people at the hospital, nursing home, and last at the family home. The family would like to thank his many care givers and helpers he had over the years.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Frances Brazil.
Those left to cherish his memory include his siblings, Gregg Brazil and his wife, Deb, of Superior, Lynn Meyer and her husband, Brent, of Denton, Neb., and Lisa Sorensen and her husband, Steve, of Ruskin, Neb.; nieces and nephews, Matt and Kaitlin Brazil, Andrew Brazil and Raidyn, Nate Meyer, Trent and Amy Sorensen and Loghan, Tiffany and Kyle Mundorf and Morgan, Hayden, Blake and Khloe, Rachel and Mark Warren and Beau, Danielle and Spencer Fecht, Kendra and Andy Else and Raegan, Taylor and Drew as well as other relatives and special friends.
His funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Dwayne Dow officiating.
Music was recordings of "In The Garden," "Amazing Grace," "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" and "Seasons In The Sun."
Visitation was held on Dec. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Matt Brazil, Andrew Brazil, Nate Meyer, Trent Sorensen, Kyle Mundorf, Mark Warren, Spencer Fecht and Andy Else. Honorary pallbearers were Tiffany Mundorf, Rachel Brazil, Kaitlin Brazil, Danielle Fecht, Kendra Else and Amy Sorensen.
Interment with full military honors was in the Evergreen cemetery at Superior.
Memorials are suggested to go in care of the family.

Dwight Abelbeck
Dwight Abelbeck, 81, a former resident of this area died Friday at Lincoln, Neb. He was born Dec. 29, 1936. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.

Lavon Johnston
Frances Lavon Johnston, 91, the daughter of Virlea (Conkin) and Elmin Peterson was born Aug. 10, 1926, at Mankato. She died Sunday at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
Lavon was raised at Mankato and the surrounding area. She received her formal education attending the Mankato schools and graduated with the Class of 1944. After high school she worked for the telephone company as a switch board operator.
She was united in marriage with William Bruce Johnston on June 30, 1946, at Mankato. They made their first home on the farm southeast of Guide Rock. This union was blessed with four children. They later moved to Inavale, and lived there until returning to the farm southeast of Guide Rock in 1979. While living in Inavale, Lavon began her employment with the United State Postal Service and later transferred to the Red Cloud Post Office.
Following their retirements, Lavon and Bruce spent their winter months in Yuma, Ariz., where they were active members of the Road Runners Dance Club. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Bruce, on Dec. 18, 2010.
Survivors include her children, Donald Johnston of Carthage, Mo., Mrs. Sonny Sidlo (Mary) of Kearney, William Johnston of Cocoa, Fla., and Ronald Johnston of Salt Lake City,Utah; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Worman of Red Cloud.
Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Interment will be in the Red Cloud Cemetery.

Larry Blew
Larry Blew, 65, the son of Merle Owen Blew and Norma Jean (Garman) Blew, was born Nov. 2, 1952, at Superior. Larry died Friday, Dec. 22, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.
His funeral will be held at a later date.
