Wilma Owen
Wilma Faye Owen, the daughter of David and Mary (Webb) Powell, was born on July 19, 1918, in Hardy, Neb. She died on July 17, 2017, at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Neb., at the age of 98 years, 11 months and 29 days.
Wilma attended Republic County School. She was united in marriage to Carl Owen on Feb. 13, 1937. To this union one daughter, Mary Louise, was born.
Together with her husband they farmed. Wilma moved to the Superior Good Samaritan Center on Jan. 29, 2014, where she resided until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl, on Feb. 3, 1997; and her daughter, Mary, on Dec. 26, 1999.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside service was held on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. from the Rosemound cemetery in Hardy, Neb., with Missie Wilt officiating.
Visitation was held on July 20, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Interment was in the Rosemound cemetery at Hardy, Neb.
Memorials are suggested to go to Superior Good Samaritan Society.

Jim Sykora
James E. "Jim" Sykora, 58, of Deweese, died last Wednesday at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings. He was born Jan. 28, 1959, in Superior to Leo and Rose (Hlavac) Sykora.
He married
Jody Muehlich on Aug. 22, 1987. Jim was a farmer in the area for many years and was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Jody Sykora, of Deweese; daughter, Mrs. Eric Nejezchleb (Amanda), Deweese;
two grandchildren; siblings, Don Sykora, Rita Wright and Bud Sykora; many nieces and nephews.
His funeral was Monday at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Deweese, with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Burial was in Our Lady of Assumption Cemetery, Deweese. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge of the arrangements.

Daryl Wampole
Daryl Wampole, 65, of Grand Island, died July 18 at his home. The son of Donald and Doris (Badger) Wampole, he was born April 20, 1952, in Ord.
He was a 1970 graduate of Lexington High School. He was united in marriage to Connie Dixon on June 20, 2003, in Grand Island. Daryl was a 31-year employee of Island Welding Supply. He enjoyed being a D.J. on Saturday nights at The Cow Palace in Grand Island. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, professional wrestling and country music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie; and his brothers, Gary Wampole, Terry Wampole and Dale Wampole.
Survivors include his children, Mrs. Ricardo Luna (Amanda) and Tony Wampole, both of Chicago, Ill.; his sister, Karen Smith of Mississippi; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral was held Saturday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor Jeff Kimberly officiating. Interment was in Bostwick Cemetery. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.

Duwayne Thomas
Duwayne I. "Pinky" Thomas, 85, of Courtland, died last Tuesday.
Cremation was selected and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the gymnasium at the Courtland school. Family inurnment will be at the Courtland cemetery at a later time. There was no visitation. Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home of Belleville is in charge of the arrangements.

Dixie DeWald
Dixie Lee DeWald, 83, of Hebron, died last Monday at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln. The daughter of Albert and Flossie "Hazel" (Lee) Radke, she was born July 31, 1933, in Hebron.
She grew up on a farm near Belvidere and graduated from Belvidere High School. She continued her education at Fairbury Junior College and taught in rural schools.
She married
Philip DeWald Oct. 2, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria. This union was blessed with the birth of eight children.
Dixie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria before moving to Hebron and joining Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the Meridian School Board for several years.
Dixie was a dispatcher and jailer for the Jefferson and Fillmore county sheriff's offices until she began working for the Thayer County Sheriff's Office. She retired in 2007 after working for them for 20 years.
She liked refinishing old trunks and furniture, sewing, reading books, playing cards and collecting state quarters, but most of all, time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Philip.
She is survived by her children, Scott DeWald of Hebron, Michael DeWald of Lincoln, Mrs. Fred Siebe (Theresa) of Wakefield, Mrs. Johny Wolf (Deborah) of Lakewood, Colo., Mrs. John Findley (Kelly) of Lincoln, Jacqueline DeWald of Lincoln, Sandra DeWald of Dixon, Tenn., and Mrs. Brad Jarchow (Vicki) of Hebron; brother, Stanley Radke of Elkhorn; sister, Alberta Schellhorn of Brighton, Colo., eight grandchildren; one great-grandson, other relatives and friends.
Her funeral was held Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, with Father Rudy Oborny officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in Alexandria. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron was in charge of the arrangements.

Marily Priefert
Marily Jean Priefert, 63, of Hebron, died last Monday at Monarch in Lincoln. The daughter of Herman and Jeanette (Gundlach) Gorz, she was born Dec. 10, 1953, in Fargo, N.D.
Marily was baptized Jan. 1, 1954, and confirmed March 30, 1969. She grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln North East High School with the Class of 1972. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, receiving her master's degree in elementary education. She taught math for more than 15 years to the sixth graders of Fairbury.
She married
Jack Priefert on July 21, 1984, at Redeemer Church in Lincoln and moved to Hebron to start a new life. She retired from teaching in 1992 when she and Jack bought a pharmacy in Hebron. They worked together at Priefert Pharmacy for 25 years, with Jack handling the pharmacy and Marily managing the store and gifts.
Marily enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, an accomplished singer and a member of the Madrigals singing ensemble during her days at Lincoln Northeast. She was a caring person with a big heart, loving to her family and friends, and especially to her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Jeanette Gorz, of Lincoln.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, of Hebron; one sister, Mrs. Tim Swanson (Jean) of Geneva, Switzerland; nieces, nephews, many friends and other family members.
Her funeral services was held Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, with Pastor Keith Brozek officiating. Burial was in the Hebron City Cemetery. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron was in charge of the arrangements.

Dale Stratman
Dale Robert Stratman, the son of Raymond and Rose (Larmer) Stratman, was born on Oct. 23, 1920, in Webber, Kan. He died on July 15, 2017, at the Harvard Rest Haven at Harvard, Neb., at the age of 96 years, eight months and 22 days.
Dale was a Lovewell High School graduate. He was united in marriage to Bernice Swihart on July 25, 1940, at Beloit, Kan., and to this union were born six children, four boys and two girls. He was employed as an auto mechanic. He attended church at Fairfield Community Church and was a 63 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was always quick witted. He enjoyed his grandchildren's' visits, fishing, camping, doing wood working and watching his boys play football and basketball. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling to Texas.
He moved to Harvard Home Assisted Living April 1 of 2016 and was transferred to Harvard Rest Haven Nursing Home July 6, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice, on Dec. 9, 2006; son, Robert Lee Dec. 30, 1975; grandchildren, Marion Lynne and Samuel Dale Stratman.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Clista Stratman, of Bartlett, Tenn.; son, Raymond "Butch" and wife, Janice, of Clay Center, Neb.; daughter, Jacklyn "Kay" Risewick and husband, John, of Phillipsburg, Kan.; son, Jerry, and wife, Jane, of Geneva, Neb.; daughter, Dawn Rae Bailey and husband, Rex, of Fairfield, Neb.; son, John, of Columbia, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gwendolyn Hindricks of Alma, Kan.; cousins, Peggy Wilkins of Miltonville, Kan., and Rosa Lee Nelson of Kansas City, Mo.; other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Neb., with Bryan Pippitt officiating.
Music was "Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden," with Carlita Price as the organist and Alicia Reed as the soloist.
Visitation will be held on July 28, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers were Jennifer Patton, Eddie Stratman, Karl Stratman, Stacey Warner, Leslie Stratman, Daphne Pippitt, Richard Risewick, Stephne Bowen, Nellie Risewick, Amy Dietrich, Ted Stratman, Marcia Davis, Travis Bailey, Tyler Stratman and Brant Stratman.
Inurnment was in the Fairview cemetery at rural Webber, Kan.

Mark Underwood, 64, Mankato, died Saturday at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) at the Mankato Community Center. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato.
