Loren Moody
Funeral services for Loren K. Moody, 62, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Home for Funerals in Norfolk with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Home for Funerals.
He died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services.
Lana Winter-Kolb
Lana Jo Winter-Kolb, 54, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Howser-Fillmer Mortuary in Norfolk. Kleine Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Lana was born July 17, 1951, at Norfolk, the daughter of Randy and Virginia (Pearson) Thies.
She received her education in Norfolk, attending Christ Lutheran School from fifth to eighth grade. She, her classmates and friends were involved in many vocal singing groups and received many awards.
She purchased and operated a bar, Fanny Ann’s. After selling it, she moved to Lincoln City, Ore., where she worked at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge.
On April 4, 1991, she married
Alvin Kolb, and together they ran an antique shop. Later they sold it and managed Travel Lodges in the state of Washington.
They moved to Grand Island in 1994 because of the death of her father-in-law and then stayed in Grand Island. Lana was a member of the Lutheran faith.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin C. Kolb of Grand Island; daughter, Fabrianne Gonzales of Omaha; son, Ray Winter of Norfolk; mother, Virginia Pearson; brother, Greg Thies of Schuyler; and grandchildren, Julian and Alandra. She is also survived by stepchildren, Dennis Kolb, Denise Jones and Lucinda Kolb, and two best friends, Lynnette Raasch of Stanton and Lila Russert of Norfolk.
Lana was preceded in death by her father, Randy Thies.
Her husband, Alvin, will take her remains to Oregon, as were her wishes. Pastor Sheri Lodel will officiate.
Gene Buckendahl
Private family memorial services will be held at a later date for Gene L. Buckendahl, 71, of Pierce. He died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at his home.
Gene Lee Buckendahl was born Dec. 10, 1934, at Pierce to Edward and Marjorie (Alexander) Buckendahl and was baptized Jan. 6, 1935, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. He was confirmed April 2, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church and attended Pierce Public Schools to the 11th grade.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Jan. 8, 1952, and served in the Korean War. He was discharged on Sept. 13, 1955.
On June 22, 1960, he married
Doris Mittelstaedt at Yankton, S.D. He owned and operated the Corner Bar at Pierce for 35 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Pierce. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion of Pierce and a lifetime member of the VFW of Omaha.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Buckendahl of Pierce; a daughter, Vickie and her husband, Keith Droescher of Norfolk; two sons, Dan and his wife Peggy Buckendahl of Norfolk and Timothy Buckendahl of Pierce; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert Scott
TILDEN - Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Scott, 84, of Tilden will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden with burial in the Tilden cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden.
He died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Jolene Staton
COLERIDGE - Jolene "Jo" Kay Staton, 64, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, as a result of a car accident near Sheridan, Wyo.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge with burial in the Coleridge City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Wintz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A service also was conducted Aug. 5 in Billings, Mont.
Jolene was born Oct. 17, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Arnold Edmund and Dorothy Margaret (McQuin) Frerichs. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. Jolene and Leonard Ellis Staton were married
June 24, 1972, in Billings. They had a daughter, Andrea Lea.
She attended Coleridge Community Schools, graduating in 1959. She earned a teaching certificate after attending Wayne State College for two years. She later completed her bachelor and master’s degrees in Billings. Jolene taught for two years in Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1963, she moved to Montana and taught fourth grade in the Billings Public School system until 2002. Since 2003, Jolene had taught at Montessori school and along with her husband and daughter owned and operated Windmill Stables to board horses.
Survivors include her husband and daughter, both of Billings; brother, David Frerichs and his wife, Sandy of Coleridge; nephew, Michael Frerichs and his wife, Holly of Norfolk; niece, Michelle Frerichs of Norfolk; grandnieces and nephews, Hunter, Sydney, Hailie and Sean.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Helen Gildersleeve
O’NEILL - Services for Helen Gildersleeve, 81, of O’Neill will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in O’Neill with burial in the O’Neill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Biglin’s Mortuary.
She died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at her home.
Memorials may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Helen was born Oct. 23, 1924, at Solomonville, Ariz., to Lisle and Irene (Hailings) Gaylord. She graduated from Compton High School in Compton, Calif.
Helen married
Harry Gildersleeve on Sept. 20, 1944, in Ithaca, N.Y. In 1949, they moved to O’Neill where they set up the first optometry practice. He passed away in 2003.
Helen’s love for music led her to write and record many songs during her lifetime, winning two American Song Writer Awards for her songs in 1977. In her later years, she became a renowned doll collector and started a business trading in valuable doll collections called Tara Hill Doll/Miniatures.
Helen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, former chairman of the March of Dimes, a member of the D.A.R., the Mary & John Society and the American Songwriters Association.
She is survived by her four children, Linda Bayley of Denver, Colo., Kathy Matthews and her husband, Terry of Trenton, Fla., Dr. Philip Gildersleeve and his wife, Connie of O’Neill, Donna Walley and her husband, Wayne of LeClaire, Iowa, and by eight grandchildren, Brent Bayley, Megan Matthews, Joshua Matthews, Stephen, Christa, Jenna, Sean Gildersleeve and Heath Lichty.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her parents, one sister and one brother.
The Rev. Joel Plisek will officiate.
Paul Muller
OSMOND - Services for Paul Muller, 79, Wausa, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church here with burial in the parish cemetery and military rites by the Wausa VFW. Visitation will be 4-7:30 p.m. Friday with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at Ashburn Funeral Home in Osmond.
He died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Wausa Health Care Services.
The son of Nickolas and Stella (Trsek) Muller, Paul was born on Aug. 29, 1926, at Winnetoon. He attended country school, then Winnetoon High School for three years, and graduated from Creighton High School in 1943.
In October of 1945, he entered the U.S. Army in which he served until 1947. He saw duty in Korea with the 42nd Engineer Construction Battalion as a construction equipment mechanic. He earned the World War II Victory Medal as well as the Army of Occupation Medal in Japan.
He was united in marriage to Delores Stech on Feb. 16, 1953, at St. Mary’s Church in Osmond. The couple lived on the same farm south of Wausa for 53 years, farming the land and raising cattle. His pastimes included fishing, hunting and enjoying a good game of cards with his friends and family. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Wausa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
Survivors include his wife, Delores; a son and his wife, Roger and Martha Muller of Ashburn, Va.; three daughters and their spouses, Kathy and Bob Wiegert of Norfolk, Paula and Kelly Nelson of Cumberland, Wis., and Susan and Rick Korth of Randolph; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond of Onawa, Iowa, Leonard of Hornick, Iowa, and Alfred of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and one sister, Dorothy Petersen of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Martin; and brothers, Wallace and Don.
Father John Andrews will officiate.
Gerald Stech, Mark Petersen, Marvin Stech, Jim Rowley, David Muller and David Petersen will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
