Verne Wagner
Services for Verne K. Wagner, 88, Norfolk, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peace United Church of Christ east of Norfolk with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Home for Funerals.
She died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare.
Verne was born on Oct. 10, 1917, in Pierce County, the daughter of Ernest and Lillian (Frey) Zumbrum. She was baptized on Nov. 7, 1920, at the Methodist parsonage in Pierce. She graduated from District 55.
On Dec. 18, 1938, Verne married
Adam Wagner. She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran in Pierce on March 26, 1939. The couple farmed in Pierce County until 1954 when they moved to Norfolk.
She raised her family of six children and worked at the F & H Cafe and Prenger’s Restaurant until her retirement.
Verne was well known for homemade cooking and her devotion to her family.
Verne is survived by her children and their spouses, Leon and Ann Wagner of Norfolk, Gene and Marilyn Wagner of Hoskins, Shirley Mae Muhsman of Norfolk, Sharon and Ronald Clifton of Deleon Springs, Fla., Thomas and Mary Jo Wagner of Norfolk and Ricky and Tammy Wagner of Norfolk; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Harlan and LaVerna Zumbrum of Norfolk; two sisters, Helen Weyrich of Pierce and Lillian Jane Kimble of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1989, two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
Pastor Irene O’Brien will officiate.
Anna Duffek
CLARKSON - Services for Anna Duffek, 104, formerly of Clarkson, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at New Zion Presbyterian Church here with burial in Clarkson National Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Clarkson and Saturday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Mrs Duffek died Sunday, July 2, 2006, in Humboldt, Ariz.
Memorials are suggested to New Zion Presbyterian Church.
Anna was born May 7, 1902, in Stanton County to Bedrich and Anna (Stoklasa) Chleboun.
On Jan. 28, 1920, she married
Paul S. Duffek in Omaha. They lived on farms near Stanton and Pilger until retiring and moving to Clarkson in 1978. Anna moved to Arizona in 2000 to live with her daughter.
Anna was a member of New Zion Presbyterian Church for over 75 years where she was an active member of Presbyterian Women and Marta Circle.
She was also a member of Spicey Farmerettes Extension Club, Willing to Learn and ZCBJ. She loved to play cards and share her baking with family and friends.
She is survived by daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Larry) Shomaker of Belleville, Ill., Anita (Mrs. John) Hahn of Columbus and Loralea (Mrs. Warren) Rushton of Humboldt, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Bret (Lori) Schomaker of Lees Summit, Mo., Joycelyn (Paul) Uhlmansiek of Swansea, Ill., Gene (Cola) Hahn of Columbus, Chet (Linda) Hahn of Collierville, Tenn., Lori (Scott) King of Elkhorn, Susan (Rob) Liston of Layton, Utah, Annmarie (Mike) Mathews of Puyallup, Wash., Teresa (Chris) Wright of Humboldt, Ariz., and Joshua Rushton of Humboldt, Ariz.; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Kucera of Fremont, and a brother, Fred Chleboun of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, who died in 1984; a sister, Olga Hoffman; and brothers, Blahos, Ernest, Joseph and Paul Chleboun.
Dr. Earl F. Underwood Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at Clarkson National cemetery and lunch will be served at church after the service.
Garnette Gragert
ALBION - Services are pending at Levander Funeral Home for Garnette Gragert, 72, formerly of Albion. She died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at a Lincoln hospital.
Phylis Long
NELIGH - Memorial services for Phylis Long, 84, Neligh, will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church here with inurnment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Beyer Funeral Home is in charge.
She died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Neligh Nursing Center.
Phylis Opal Reutzel was born May 17, 1922, near Neligh to Philip and Olga (Lubken) Reutzel. She attended grade school at District 15 New England Valley and graduated from Neligh High School in 1939. She then attended business college in Lincoln. She then went to Chicago and worked at the Chicago Board of Trade and the New England Mutual Life Insurance Co.
She was united in marriage to Lyle Long on May 17, 1943, in Omaha by the Rev. A.A. Brooks.
The couple lived briefly in Cedar Rapids until they purchased their home in Neligh. Phylis worked as a secretary for the Neligh Public School and later as a clerk at the Antelope County Treasurer’s Office. She worked side-by-side with her husband, transporting rodeo livestock in the early years of their marriage, and was also the bookkeeper for Lyle’s trucking business.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and caring for her children. She also liked to go camping with the Weekend Wanderers, and the couple spent their winters in Arizona for many years.
She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Berry and her husband, Lance of Tempe, Ariz., and Rosann Steffensmeier of Omaha; her son, Philip Long of who knows where; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her half-sister, Iva Kester of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle and half-brother Donald Reutzel.
Catherine Luebbert
WEST POINT - Catherine D. Luebbert, 89, of West Point died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at the West Point Living Center.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church here with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home with rosaries at 1:30 p.m. and a wake at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community, Gaurdian Angels or Central Catholic Endowments.

She died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Plainview Manor.
Howard Morlan
CREIGHTON - Services for Howard J. Morlan, 83, of Norfolk will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton with burial in Hope Enterprise cemetery at Orchard. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Morlan died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Norfolk.

Howard J. Morlan, son of B.M. and Ethel (McNeil) Morlan, was born May 16, 1923, at Walnut, Nebraska. He attended school to the eighth grade. Howard lived in Creighton, and for the past 40 years, he lived in Norfolk.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
