COLERIDGE - Gary W. Hansen, 49, of East Peoria, Ill., died Friday, April 28, 2006, at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria due to complications with diabetes.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge with burial at Lawn Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. with family present 6-8 p.m. at Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge.
Don Jaroska
CLARKSON - Services are pending at Miller Funeral Home for Don Jaroska, 64, of Clarkson. Mr. Jaroska died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at his home.
Lillian Krings
CEDAR RAPIDS - Services for Lillian Krings, 92, formerly of Cedar Rapids, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids with burial at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake and resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
She died Friday, April 28, 2006, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Harold Loewe
BEEMER - Services for Harold E. Loewe, 85, of Beemer are pending at Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Beemer. He died Monday, May 1, 2006. at the West Point Living Center.
Albin Miller
FOSTER - Services for Albin Miller, 75, Foster, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church here. Burial will be at Pleaseant View cemetery in Plainview. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Pierce.
He died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Pierce Manor.
Doris Oeltjen
Doris Oeltjen, 91, of Madison, formerly of Norfolk, died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Countryside Home in Madison.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk with interment in Fairview cemetery in Creston. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Fund or the American Cancer Fund.
Doris Oeltjen was born Sept. 8, 1914, in LeGrande, Calif., to Bob and Minnie (Bridges) Maw. Doris graduated from Creston High School.
On Nov. 11, 1936, Doris married
Elmer Oeltjen in Creston. They lived on a farm north of Creston until Elmer passed away in 1966. Doris moved to Norfolk and worked as a secretary at the Norfolk Junior College until her retirement. Doris enjoyed traveling and Nebraska football.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Faye (Jim) Schwartz of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; sons, Bill (Jean) Oeltjen of Columbus and Ray (Jan) Oeltjen of Hillsboro, Ore.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, Virgil Maw and Don Maw; and sisters, Virginia Hieb, Ardith Greenquist and Lois Meredith.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Minnie Maw; husband, Elmer Oeltjen; granddaughter, Nicole Oeltjen; five brothers and three sisters.
Leon Rimovsky
ST. EDWARD - Leon Rimovsky, 81, of St. Edward died Friday, April 28, 2006, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward with burial at Evergreen cemetery and military rites by Crosier American Legion Post 226. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Tom Schaaf
ATKINSON - Services for Tom Schaaf, 74, Omaha, formerly of Atkinson, were Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church here with burial in the parish cemetery. Seger Funeral Home was in charge.
He died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Omaha.
Bill Dawson
Bill V. Dawson, 75, of Nebraska City died at Beverly Health Care in Nebraska City on Sunday, April 16, 2006.
Service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Nebraska City with burial at Wyuka Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Peterson Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City with family present 5-7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church.
Bill Vaughn Dawson was born June 29, 1930, in Magnet, son of Kenneth Lyle and Alda Laverne (Lackas) Dawson. Bill’s family moved to Osmond when he was a freshman. He graduated from Osmond High School in 1948.
On June 23, 1950, Bill and Mary Jo Thomsen were united in marriage in Osmond. Bill received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University in 1952. Bill entered the U.S. Air Force.
In 1955, Bill and Mary Jo moved to Nebraska City, where they gave birth to five children, Becci, Patrick, Todd, Scott and Jon. Mary Jo died in 1983.
Bill and Joan A. Lund-Stava of Fremont were united in marriage on Aug. 4, 1984, in Nebraska City. Bill’s family grew by two sons, Bradley and Steven. Bill owned and operated Dawson Oil and Transport and co-owned Northland Transport until his retirement in 1997.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as a board member, deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. Other memberships included Western Star Lodge No. 2 AF&AM;, American Legion Post 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Optimist Club, Jaycees local and state officer, utility board, Nebraska City Petroleum Jobbers, school board, Elks Lodge 1049, Boy Scout leader and a baseball coach.
Bill was very proud to have been Nebraska City’s youngest mayor. He was involved with Joan in the operations of the Apple Core and Night Before Christmas Shop.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Mary Jo.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Dawson of Nebraska City; daughter, Rebecca “Becci” (Dawson) Cox and husband Glenn of Stillwater, Minn.; six sons, Patrick S. Dawson and wife Jane (Bonebrake) of Maryville, Mo., Todd K. Dawson and wife Mikala (Wheeler) of Lander, Wyo., Scott M. Dawson of Boulder, Colo., Jon K. Dawson and wife Jonna M. (Simms) of Minot, N.D., Bradley W. Stava and wife Jane (Seubert) of Heartland, Wis., and Steven M. Stava and wife Doris (Prothe) of Lenexa, Kan.; 15 grandchildren, Lara Jo, Daniel A. and Maria L. Cox, Abby L., Peter A., Kelli Jo and Suzanne E. Dawson, Meghan E., Thomas K., Katherine J. and Shane F. Dawson, Zeb J. and Seth M. Dawson, Emily M. and Kristen M. Stava; other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Bill’s sons and son-in-law.
Lauren Hermelbracht
BANCROFT - Lauren H. Hermelbracht, 74, of Bancroft died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Pender Community Hospital after a long battle with lung disease.
Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft with burial in the Bancroft City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft.
Joan Hodgson
TILDEN - Memorial services for Joan Hodgson, 80, of Tilden will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden with burial in the Tilden City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden.
Mrs. Hodgson died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at the Stanton Nursing Center.
Joan Shirley May Axen Hodgson, daughter of Lloyd Axen and Frances (Schwinck) Axen, was born May 22, 1925 at Stanton. She attended Stanton Public Schools and Wayne State College, majoring in music, business and accounting.
On Dec. 21, 1955, she was married
to Robert Hodgson at Fullerton. Two children were born to them, Jane and John. Before her marriage, she lived in Stanton where she worked as a secretary for attorney R.L. Grady. After her marriage, she made her home in Tilden where she worked as a bookkeeper-secretary for her husband in the veterinary business.
She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden and American Legion Auxiliary Post 170. She played for the church choir and many other musical groups while living in Stanton.
Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Jane and John Tegeler of Meadow Grove; her son and his wife, John and Lisa Hodgson of Crete; five grandchildren, Tyler Tegeler of Lincoln, Joey Tegeler of Meadow Grove, Mitch Tegeler of Kearney and Marissa and Carter Tegeler of Meadow Grove; and a brother, Gail Axen of Stanton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
