Marleen Thor
WISNER - Services for Marleen (Mrs. John) Thor, 60, of Wisner will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wisner.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday with a vigil at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is in charge of arrangements.
She died Monday, April 10, 2006, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Marleen Ruth Beilke was born Jan. 22, 1946, at Ord to Gerhard and Emma Frieda (Ziemke) Beilke. She attended public school and graduated from North Loup-Scotia High School in 1964.
Marleen earned her bachelor’s degree in education and later received her master’s degree in education psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
On Jan. 23, 1971, she was united in marriage to John M. Thor at St. Paulinus Catholic Church in Syracuse. In 1973, the couple moved to Wisner, and Marleen taught German at Wisner-Pilger High School from 1974 until retiring in 2002.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and its Ladies Guild in Wisner. Marleen was an accomplished pianist and organist and directed the children’s and adult choirs at church. Marleen was a member of PEO-Chapter EP and the PC Project Club, both in Wisner. She enjoyed golfing, camping and hiking in the mountains, traveling, cooking, baking, gardening and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, John M. Thor of Wisner; her children, Erika S. and husband Matthew Winkelbauer, M.D. of O’Neill, and Alexander M. Thor of Wayne; two grandchildren, Grant Edward and Emma Marleen Winkelbauer; brother, John R. and wife Nancy Beilke of Fremont; niece Kirsten and husband Ross Jamison of the Kalamazoo, Mich., area and son, Jonny; and mother-in-law, Joan Thor of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law.
Father Timothy Podraza will celebrate the Mass.
Della Vequist
O’NEILL - Services for Della Vequist, 89, O’Neill, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church here. Burial will be in the O’Neill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill with an 8 p.m. rosary.
She died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Memorials are directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill.
Dorothy Walters
ALBION - Services for Dorothy Leypoldt Walters, 88, of Albion, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church here with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
She died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at her home in Beatrice.
Memorials are suggested to the Every Woman Matters program at Lincoln.
Norbert Olberding
RANDOLPH - Services for Norbert B. Olberding, former mayor of Randolph, will be at St. Frances Catholic Church here Monday at 10:30 a.m. with burial in the parish cemetery and military rites by Alvin Kessler VFW Post 5545 and American Legion Post 113 of Randolph.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday with a 7:30 p.m. wake at Johnson Funeral Home in Randolph.
Age 87, he died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home here.
He was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Stuart, the son of Bernard and Katherine (Beyerink) Olberding. He attended St. Frances Parochial School in Randolph and farmed for a time with his brother, Jude, near Randolph.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from Jan. 13, 1942, to Jan. 11, 1946, as a tech sergeant in India, China and Burma.
After his enlistment in World War II, he worked for Burbach Implement, in the parts department, in Randolph.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves on Jan. 11, 1946, until Jan. 10, 1949, and re-enlisted from Feb. 17, 1949, until Oct. 24, 1952, serving in Florida during the Korean War.
He married
Marianne Van Slyke on Sept. 15, 1952, at St. Frances Catholic Church.
From 1952 to 1979, he owned and operated Olberding Elevator until retiring in 1979 and then enjoyed extensive travel, reading and woodworking. He was a member of St. Frances Catholic Church.
He served two years on the Randolph City Council and eight years as mayor. He also served 20 years on the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department and 10 years as fire chief.
He was a charter member of the board of Colonial Manor Nursing Home and served from 1968 until 1998.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their spouses, Jean Anne and Norman Buss of Lincoln, Holly and Pat Meuret of Brunswick and Lisa Olberding and special friend Jim Butcher of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren and spouses, Trisha and Joe Howard of Omaha, Toni and Jim Gutherie of North Platte, John Meuret of Brunswick, Justin Meuret of Brunswick, James Meuret of Brunswick, Eric and Casey Buss of Alton, Ill., Jennie and Mike Wilhite of Donnellson, Ill., and Adam Buss of Lincoln; four great-grandchildren, Reece Buss of Alton, Ill., Noah Wilhite of Donnellson, Ill., Dakota Gutherie and Hailey Gutherie of North Platte; and four sisters and their spouses, Loretta Reineke of Forest City, Iowa, Mary Ann and Don Gerling of Spokane, Wash., Rose Edna and Arthur Rohde of Randolph and Vernell Horrocks of Meadow Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Henrietta Deiter, Maxalinda Reineke and Alda Olberding in infancy; and brothers Bernard, Julius and Edwin Olberding.
Music will be by guitarist and cantor George Bradley.
Pallbearers will be grandsons John Meuret, Justin Meuret, James Meuret, Eric Buss and Adam Buss. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters Trisha Howard, Toni Gutherie and Jennie Wilhite.
The Rev. Ron Battiato will officiate.
Luella Ave
Services for Luella L. Ave, 84, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoskins. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Norfolk.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Friday at Howser-Fillmer Mortuary. Mrs. Ave died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Heritage of Bel Air Nursing Home.
She was born March 1, 1922, to Walter and Louise (Koerting) Pentico in Pierce County. She attended school in Pierce County.
She married
Edward Ave on Feb. 24, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hoskins. They farmed northwest of Hoskins. She was employed at the Norfolk Veterans Home in the food service department until retiring in 1987.
She is survived by one son, Larry, and his wife, Bernice, of Loveland, Colo.; three daughters, Juanita Bussey of Norfolk, Darlene Ave of Norfolk and Patty Holmberg and her husband, Daryl, of Crofton; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene Anglin of Oelwein, Iowa, and Ardith Hahn of Pierce.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, who died Nov. 26, 1975; a son, Phillip; and a grandchild.
Pastor Rodney Rixe will officiate.
Berle Greckel
Services for Berle Greckel, 78, Roswell, N.M., formerly of Norfolk, are pending at Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. He died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at his home.
Rance Timperley
Rance L. Timperley, 52, of Norfolk died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at his home in Norfolk.
Services are being planned for a later date.
Rance Lynn Timperley, son of Lloyd and Evelyn (Theil) Timperley, was born May 18, 1953, at Norfolk. He attended Warnerville (District 25) country school and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1971.
During high school he was active in Future Farmers of America. On July 20, 1974, Rance married
Polly Ann Mossman at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk. They farmed southwest of town, raising watermelons, pumpkins, asparagus and other produce.
He loved playing cards, telling jokes, attending his kids’ sporting activities and spending time with family and friends.
Rance is survived by his wife, Polly, of Norfolk; his four children, Lance of Norfolk, Molly and Jenny of Lincoln, and Holly Timperley and Troy Krause of Lincoln; a brother, Darrel Timperley (Carol) of Norfolk; two sisters, Lois Stover (Tom) of Fremont and Joyce Fisher (Reed) of Omaha; mother-in-law, Jenny Mossman of Norfolk; 15 nieces and nephews; and 19 grand-nieces and nephews.
Rance was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and two nephews.
