Wayne R. Chamberlain
Homer resident
Wayne R. Chamberlain, 54, of Homer passed away on Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were Friday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer, with the Rev. Annette Minderman officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery, rural Homer.
Wayne was born June 6, 1949 in Sioux City the son of Harry L. and Anna M. (Hansen) Chamberlain. He graduated from Homer High School in 1967. He then attended Southeast Community College in Milford, Neb. He married Dorene B. Overhue Sept. 7, 1979 in Elk Point, S.D.
He served on the Homer Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years. He retired after 30 years as a sheet metal worker due to his health.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer and the Sheet Metal Workers Local #3. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bird watching, T.V., his cabin on Lewis and Clark Lake and spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dorene, five children: Michael and his special friend Sara of Homer, Robert and his wife Kari of Homer, Theresa and her husband Bruce Prine of Sioux City, Stacy and her husband Robert Hill of Sioux City, Nikki and her husband Jason Johs of Chicago, 13 grandchildren, his mother Anna Chamberlain of Homer and a brother Gene Chamberlain.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry and a granddaughter Kaylee Prine.
Honorary pallbearers were Stan Jump, Ronnie Collins and Keith Atkins.
Casketbearers were Hal Dowhower, Dale Barclay, Wayne Andersen, Dick Nelson, Bob Meins and Leon Kent.
Hilda Bossow
SSC resident
Hilda H. Bossow, 83, of South Sioux City died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Services were Feb. 10 at Hope Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charles Horkey officiating. Burial was in the Dakota City Cemetery.
Hilda was born May 29, 1920, in Norfolk, Neb. the daughter of Otto J. and Frieda K. (Riedel) Blank. She married Paul LeRoy Bossow Nov. 27, 1938, in Yankton, S.D. He died Oct. 2, 1992, in Sioux City. She was a lab assistant at Mercy Medical Center until retiring in 1987.
She was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church and the Ladies Bible Study. She enjoyed gardening and her children and grandchildren coming to visit, especially on Sundays.
Survivors include six sons and their respective wives, LeRoy and Judy Bossow, Jack and Terri Bossow all of South Sioux City, Roger Bossow of Oak Harbor, Wash., Gary Bossow of Wolcott, Colo., Rex and Rita Bossow of Gypsum, Colo., Mark and Jacqueline Bossow of Independence, Mo.; six daughters and their respective husbands, Patricia and Harlan Stingley of Jackson, Paula and Dennis Tranmer of South Sioux City, Kathy and Duane Sappingfield of Fremont, Neb., Roxie Peeler of Seabrook, Texas, Penny Bossow of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Dolie and John Toczek of Lees Summit, Mo.; two sisters, Delores Robinson of Foster, Neb., Doris and her husband Dean Christensen of Hooper, Neb.; 38 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Karen Schilling and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jens and Paul Bossow, Brandon and Denny Tranmer, Jason Sappingfield and Albert Thacker, IV. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Stingley, Rusty, Rick, Shane, Jerry, Travis, Kevin, Richie, Ryan and Mark Bossow, Jr. David and Chad Beargeon.
Hilda Webb
Lived in Waterbury
Hilda H. Webb, 75, of Waterbury died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at her residence.
Private burial services will be at a later date beside her husband, Marion in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Hilda was born Sept. 13, 1928 in Hanover, Mass., the daughter of Karl I. and Eda (Roberts) Winslow. She married Marion D. Webb April 28, 1950 in Elk Point, S.D. The couple lived in California for five years before returning to Waterbury. She was employed as a C.N.A. at Matney Colonial Manor in South Sioux City and was presently employed at Elms Nursing Home in Ponca.
She enjoyed picnics, doing puzzles, shopping, gambling, admiring horses, spending time with her family and grandchildren and her cat “Noodles” and her dog “Harley.”
Survivors include her son Kenneth and his wife Jayme Webb of Moville, Iowa; two daughters: Susan and her husband Alan Mackling and Alice Webb, all of Waterbury; six grandchildren: Mari Mackling and her fiancé Adam Sprakel, Ryan Mackling and his special friend Miranda Voss, Jacob, Josh, Trenton and Codi Webb, a brother and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, on March 24, 1992 at his residence in Waterbury, her parents, a son, brothers and sisters.
Robert Robertson
Pender resident
Robert (Bob) L. Robertson, 76, of Pender, died on Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 at his home in Pender. Masonic Services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 5 at the United Church of Pender with J.C. Browne officiating. Burial was in the Omaha Valley Cemetery near Homer.
Robert LeRoy Robertson was born on July 3, 1927 in Winnebago, the son of Frank and Iva (Goodsell) Robertson. He attended school in Winnebago, graduating in 1945. He married Mary Ann Heck on May 16, 1949. They lived a short time in Homer. In 1950, they moved to Winnebago and in 1956, the moved to Walthill to own and operate the Phillips 66 service station and wrecker service. In 1979, the couple moved to Pender. He was employed at farm related equipment companies in Pender and later at Thurston Mfg. Co.
He retired in 1993 from Thurston Manufacturing.
While living in Winnebago and Walthill, he was active in the Volunteer Fire Departments, becoming fire chief in both departments respectively. He was one of the first instructors of emergency medical technician training of the volunteer rescue units in surrounding towns. He was a former member of Thurston County special deputies.
During WW II, Bob was a member of the Merchant Marines. He was also a member of Olive Branch Lodge #274 A.F. and A.M. in Walthill. He was a member of American Legion Post # 55 in Pender, and was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City and an active member of the Shrine Camping Unit. He was a past member of the Shrine Sahibs unit and Rat Patrol Unit. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Walthill. Bob thoroughly enjoyed retirement, camping and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, three daughters Robbie and her husband Dennis Piper of Walthill, Mary Alice of Lincoln, and Sue of Pender, two sons, Rick Robertson of Pender, and Jerry and his wife Pat Robertson of Pender, five grandchildren: Ericka Miller and her husband Matthew of Lincoln, Jeff Piper and his wife Jessica of Wayne, Brian Robertson and Bryce Robertson of Pender, Brodrick Robertson of Lincoln, four step-grandchildren Brandon Gathje and special friend Katie Burkhead of Yankton, S.D., Brent Gathje of Norfolk, Kimberly Crippen and special friend Darryl Shupe, and Tony Crippen and his wife, Lisa all of Pender, four great grandchildren: Madison, McKenna and Mason Miller of Lincoln, and Brian H. Robertson of Sioux City, and three step great grandchildren, Amanda Crippen and special friend Jared Carlson, Nicholas and Shane Crippen all of Pender, one step-sister, Patricia Fink of North Glenn, Colo., numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Florence Robertson, two sisters, Betty Lucille in infancy and Lois Jean Garcia.
Father Norman Parr
Former Waterbury pastor
Father Norman Parr, 79, died recently in Omaha.
During his 53 years as a priest, Father Parr served a number of parishes. He was pastor of St. Anne in Dixon and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waterbury in 1959.
In retirement, Father Parr resided at the Immanuel Fontenelle Home in Omaha.
Katherine Mikesell Iverson
Ponca’s oldest resident
Katherine “Virginia” Mikesell Iverson, 101, Ponca’s oldest resident, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at the Elms Health Care Center in Ponca.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. Pastor Ron Youngerman officiated. Burial was in the Ponca City Cemetery.
Virginia was born on May 12, 1902 in Ponca, the daughter of John and Jessie (Reynolds) Mikesell, and granddaughter of an early settler and business man S.P. Mikesell. She graduated from Ponca High School in 1920 and lived her entire life in Ponca.
Virginia married longtime Ponca mayor, E.C. (Buff) Iverson. Buff passed away in 1981. She was once one of the earliest members of the Ponca P.E.O. Chapter DG, the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She maintained long years of interest in the Carnegie Library as well as the historical foundation of Ponca. For many years she was involved in the early celebration of Ponca’s “Days of ’56.” The Mikesell name ends here. Virginia remembered the newspaper reports of the loss of the Titanic in 1912.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca.
Survivors include two sons: John “Jack” and his wife Mary Lou Iverson of Palatine, Ill., Gary Ellis and his wife Sue Iverson of Rockport, Texas, two grandsons: Craig and his wife Erica Iverson of Denver, Colo. and Hans Iverson of Hamm Lake, Minn., two granddaughters: Barbara and her husband Marv Ver Steegh of Newton, Iowa, Chris and her husband Tom McGrail of Cicero, Ind. and nine great grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Buff.

Vera Porter
Lifelong Dakota Co. resident
Vera June Porter, 82, of South Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at a South Sioux City care center after a brief illness.
Services were Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer with the Rev. Annette Minderman officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Park Cemetery.
Vera was born March 9, 1922 in rural Hubbard, the daughter of Louis R.A. and Alma Lorane (Eriksen) Wilkins. She graduated from Homer High School and Samuel’s Beauty School in Sioux City. She married Robert M. Porter.
She was owner and operator of Mirror Beauty Shop for 54 years. She also worked at Matney Colonial Manor, Regency Square Nursing Home and went to private homes to fix her customers’ hair who were unable to come to the shop.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer. She enjoyed supporting her grandchildren in their different activities in both South Sioux City and Emerson-Hubbard.
Survivors include two sons: Robert L. “Bob” and his wife Patricia “Trish” Porter of South Sioux City, Alan L. “Al” Porter of Emerson, a brother Ronald and his wife Pauline Eriksen of Homer, five grandchildren: Brent Porter, Rob Porter, LaTonya Bousquet, CaTina Porter, Troy Porter and one great granddaughter Alxys Bousquet.
Pallbearers were Brent, Rob, Troy and CaTina Porter, LaTonya Bousquet and Kurt Eriksen.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the Hospice of Siouxland.
Christy Fisher
West Des Moines resident
Christy Fisher died March 29, 2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A mass was held Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with cremation following the service.
Christy was born Dec. 6, 1961 in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from University of Kansas. She worked as a journalist in Dallas, Washington D.C. and for Meredith in Des Moines. She and her husband lived in West Des Moines for four years. She was a former member of the National Press Club. She enjoyed sports, reading and travel.
She is survived by her husband, Tore nelson of West Des Moines, her parents Barbara and William Fisher of Indian Shores, Fla., her sister Holly Mauer of Shawnee, Kan., her brothers, Steve and Doug Fisher, both of Overland Park, Kan., many nieces, nephews and her godchild Cassidy Rae Miner.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Marking Strides, a walk for breast cancer or the American Cancer Society.
Gerald E. Loyd

of Emerson bank
Gerald E. Loyd, 89, of Omaha, formerly of Emerson, died Thursday, April 7, 2004 at Hospice House in Omaha.
Services were Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Daniel R. Andrews officiating. Burial was in Good Shepard Lawn Crypt with full military honors by the Benson VFW #2503.
Gerald was born Dec. 22, 1914 in Osmond, Neb., the son of William Edward and Hazel F. (Neal) Loyd. He was president and CEO of First National Bank in Emerson. He was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife Edna May Loyd; sons and daughters-in-law, Marshall E. and Linda Loyd of Omaha, Douglas W. and Rebecca Loyd of Carmel, Ind. and Stephen G. and Sally Loyd of Omaha; grandchildren, Eric and wife Sally Loyd, Sarah and Jessica Loyd, Courtney and Nathan Loyd and Michelle and husband Jasen Witthuhn; brothers Dwain Loyd of Coral Springs, Fla. and Eldred and wife Marjorie Loyd of Hornick, Iowa; and sister Wilma Ernster of Clinton, Iowa.
